For those of you who were kind enough to read my trip report of our last DLP visit here, you'll remember the call of Dreams was just too strong to resist ..... plus DH broke my ice-cream scoop so I needed to go back to replace it! So after a year of planning ..... and more planning ..... luckily I love holiday planning
..... the big day dawned.
Thursday August 16th 2012
We took the dogs to their kennels then left for Southampton airport where it had been given a transformation since the last time we'd flown from there and there's now the facility to order hot meals rather than just sandwiches and snacks. So we took advantage of this and had scampi and chips/burger and chips which was very nice and quite reasonably priced too.
Our flight to Orly was delayed by about half an hour because we had to wait for a girl who had been refused entry to the UK and was being returned to Paris. She was sat at the back by herself but we could all hear her being extremely rude to the cabin crew and although not scary it did make us feel a little uneasy. The captain detained her whilst we all got off the plane and I did wonder if the police would be waiting for her but we later saw her outside the airport so maybe he just gave her a dressing down. We were met by Ezyshuttle who drove us to our hotel, Hotel Longchamp Elysees, which was about 5 minutes walk from the Trocadero.
We had chosen this hotel because of the reviews on Trip Adviser and also because there was a very good offer on at time of booking.
Our double room - yes, it really was this small (!) but we were prepared for this and it was clean and comfortable and that was all that mattered to us as we were out most of the time
and the view from our window.
Sorry about the spots on the photos - I took them after we'd got back from Versailles and it must be the spray from the fountains!
The girls had a triple room which had plenty of space for the three of them
and the view from their window.
Once we'd unpacked we decided to go up to Sacre Coeur to see the sunset. We walked to the Trocadero metro where we bought our tickets from a machine then caught the bus.
When we got off we could see Sacre Coeur so it was impossible to get lost.
Unfortunately we were too late to go up the dome but we were able to wander round inside.
The views of Paris are amazing and next time we come (I always hope for a next time) I'd like to go up the dome as they must be even more spectacular.
We decided to walk part of the way back to the hotel and stopped to take photos of the Moulin Rouge.
We walked about half-way back before hopping on a bus back to the Trocadero. We debated about whether to have anything to eat but none of us were hungry after eating a cooked lunch at the airport so decided to give it a miss.
It was now getting dark and the Eiffel Tower looked beautiful.
On the hour it twinkles just like the Christmas lights on DLP's Castle. My dreadful photos really don't do it justice
but hopefully you can imagine how lovely it was.
It then took us 5 minutes to walk back to our hotel where we all had a good night's sleep ready for the next day.
