We flew from DEN to MCO on Thurs. Aug.5th. We flew Frontier's later flight which arrived around 10:00 pm. I decided to go with this flight for a couple of reasons. 1- We were going to be out of town for more than 3 weeks and I didn't want to rush in the morning. 2- The earlier flight would have gotten us there around 5:15. We have done this before and when we care about the room location we always end up with a bad view (you know the one next to the service area). We were staying in a LVC room this time and I really wanted a ground floor room. We have stayed at the PR 4 other times, 3 being a GVC room. One of these trips we were in a GVC room for 5 nights went to the Gulf Coast and came back to stay in a LVC room for 5 nights. We ended up with a second floor room. We did not think it was worth the extra $ for a second floor room so we switched to a GVC room. I've never wanted to do a LVC room again because of the risk.
We have changed our plans for this trip at least 7 times. I had deposits paid at the GF, POR and the BC as well as the PR & AKL. Our dates were always changing as well. When we finalized everything we knew we wanted to stay @ the PR 1st and end up at the AKL. When we switched our reservations for the last time there were no GVC rooms available, only LVC. I booked it but I was worried we might get a second floor room. That's when I knew I wanted an early check-in, in hopes of getting a 1st floor room.
I did Priceline and got the Marriott @ the airport for about $400 cheaper than our LVC room
We didn't have to wait long for the shuttle to the hotel. The hotel was your typical 3 * hotel. We were in bed with the lights out at 11:15.
We had to be up early on Friday. This was our 10th anniversary and I had some fun things planned. A month ago we were watching our friends kids so they could go out on their anniversary. They came back to pick up their kids in a limo. Our kids kept on asking us when they could ride in one. I knew WDW would be a great place for us to do so. We used FL Tours and they were great. Michael knew it was a surprise. My dh took the luggage down. The kids saw the limo and wanted to ride in the limo. My dh said 'why would we ride in that?' When I came down I said I think we should ride in this limo! The kids weren't sure if we were serious until we got in the limo. Michael had Brother Bear playing. We did a quick grocery stop for some water. We arrived at the PR around 8:45. It was a beautiful summer morning.
Our room wasn't ready. Bell service offered to drive us to the Hawaii longhouse. We wanted to walk instead. It had been two yrs. since our last stay at the PR. My dh checked in while I took the kids upstairs. Luciano checked us in and he was great. We told him we wanted a ground floor room. He said he had a great room for us and to check back in a few hours to see if it was ready.
We had a PS for 1900 Park Fare for 9:45. This is my favorite character breakfast. The characters were great. My 3 yr old still doesn't like the costumed characters. The Mad Hatter and Alice were wonderful. Alice spent a long time with my 3 yr old. She even crawled under the table to get my shy ds. She planted a kiss on his cheek! They did an anniversary announcement and we got a certificate to commemorate the day.
We went to the MK to get the rest of our AP's. The kids didn't give us a hard time for not going into the MK. We went back to the PR. Our rooms wasn't ready so the kids went swimming. I got to get my favorite Polynesian drink, a Lava Flow
I was looking over our itinerary and I noticed something was not right. It had listed the Spirit of Aloha for Saturaday not Friday. This was what we were planning on doing for our anniversary.
Our youngest isn't old enough for the kids club and I didn't want to do an in-room sitter. I wanted to celebrate our anniversary as a family. We have never done the Luau and we thought it would be a nice way to mark our anniversary. My dh went in and talked to Kathy and unfortunately the Luau was sold out for the night. My dh asked them what we should do. They were going to work on it. They got in touch with Rich the the concierge manager to figure out what to do.
By now our room was ready. We walked into 1508 and had a great view of the castle, but I wasn't sure about the shrubs in front of our room. Well they shrubs were great because they gave us some privacy. This room was like having extra space. Our kids would come and go and play on the beach. We would watch the EWP and the fireworks a couple of times from our room. We were so happy with the view we decided to stay an extra night at the Polynesian.
I had ordered flowers from the WDW florist. I saw some orchids online that I liked. Our flowers were already in the room, but they weren't quite what I thought they were going to be. Online they were pinkish. These were green. I had no idea that there were green orchids. It looked more like plants than a floral display. Oh well, I don't think I will do that again.
In the meantime we had a PS for the Afternoon Tea @ the GF. I really enjoyed our tea time. It was so nice to hear the piano while drinking our tea. The tea was great and the food was very good. We ordered some sandwiches and the kids got their tea. The concierge arranged for us to have a mini wedding cake, two dawg bones and one slipper. They were very yummy.
Rich called us on our cell phone and got the Luau plans all worked out. We just needed to contact Chris when we got there. We were going to the 8:00 dinner. The weather stayed nice all day. It was a little hot while standing in line, but once we sat down I never noticed the heat. We had a great time at the show. I thought the food was very good. The show went by pretty fast. The kids were entertained all the way up until the end. Chris came over to our table to ask how everything was. He was so nice. They even gave us a little cake. We were to full to eat it. We shared it with the table next to us. I just thought the whole experience was a lot of fun. I didn't expect the atmosphere to be as nice as it was.
We got back to our room to watch the fireworks
