The Trip Planning Game! A MARCH 2017 Pre-Trip Report Update 2-10 Day 5

We're going to Disney World!!!! It's official everyone We're going to Disney World!!! We've booked our trip with the discount codes that came out Monday! So now the details!

Dates: March 4th-13 (That's 10 days :cool1:)
Resort: Wilderness Lodge Club Level
Tickets: 8 day park hoppers
Dining: Just the regular DDP
Flights: Still not booked
ADR's: I made 3 but still have 6 more to pick
Total cost so far (for those who may be curious): about $8,902!

Now it's story time. I left this PTR for awhile because I always seam to get it in my head that my trip is going to fall through around the time we're getting ready to book so I get nervous and tend to abandon my reporting duties. But now that the trip feels more real hopefully I'll stick with it. I'm not really sure why I ever questioned us staying at WL... I think I always knew that's where we would end up but I was worried because I knew the construction was making less rooms available so the visa discounts came out and we don't have a Disney Visa at the moment so I did lots of math and some sleuthing to try and have an idea what I'd be dealing with come Monday morning. As I was saying before I'd been researching CL for this trip priced out the WL CL and it was over 10,000 and I thought there was no way! But then the discounts came and brought the total to under 10,000 and I thought just maybe plus CL was all that was left at WL for the discount so we came up with a plan first WL, then AKL, and finally FW cabins. Well I logged on right when I woke up Monday morning and the discounts had gone public! But there was a new one the Gift of Magic promotion! This discount brought my total to under 9,000 I couldn't believe it! After adding Memory Maker and trip insurance it brought it back up but I was still happy! I'll probably pay for half the trip and my airfare which is quite a bit more then I was planning but about what I budgeted for. I was planning on paying around $4,000 for my solo trip but had budgeted for it to cost $5,000 so even though it's majorly cutting into my spending money I still have Christmas to get some of it back and 3 more months of work :). I'll be making an ADR post in a few days we're not commando touring People so I thought I'd take advantage of the IPO services and have them finish my reservations for me. And this is where you come in! I need advice on where to eat! What are some of your favorite non-character TS meals for lunch and dinner?

I was not expecting to be back with this post so soon! I can't believe it but all my ADR's are now booked. On Wednesday morning I got my planning form from IPO. It took me the rest of the week to fill it out and I sent it out. My mom called with payment information today and all my ADR's are made! Just like that in less than an hour. She called gave them the information and poof they appeared in MDE! What have I gotten myself into! It was so easy! It was crazy Disney Magic! Then I got an E-mail with my plans in less than an hour and I'm just very very amazed! OK, I know what your thinking, Sam it's great that you're so happy with CL and IPO so far but what we really want to know is what your plans look like. My parents have asked that I not get super specific with details on here :( But I'm up for Dis Meets! So if you know you're going to be at WDW the same time in March I am let me know maybe we can plan a meetup. :) On to the plans!
I'm going to give times not dates.

9:55 Ohana Breakfast I'm so excited for this one! I have no real interest in staying at the poly (Crazy I know but the theming just isn't for me) so I was waiting to stay at an MK resort for this one and well I'm staying at an MK resort.

9:40 Garden Grill Breakfast I'm excited for this one the second I found out they added Breakfast it went on my to do list. I'm kind of a picky eater and Breakfast is generally a safe meal for me as far as things I'll eat. Compared to the Lunch/Dinner where there isn't as much for me. Also Mickey Waffles, Tator Tots, and Characters will make me very happy!

9:45 Tusker House Breakfast I know I know another Character meal but what can I say I love them plus now I've done almost all of them :) I'm only missing CRT, Cape May and 1900 Park Fair

12:30 Biergarten Lunch This is probably one of the ones I'm least excited for... It was kind of like oh... I need one more ADR for DDP and this one has been on my list so I went for it... Plus it's a restaurant in the World Showcase which is always fun

12:40 Lunch at BOG YAY!!!! I'm so excited for this!!! BOG had just opened on my last trip back when it was like 2-hour lines around the corner of the drawbridge before the ADR days so it didn't happen. Thus making it a definite must do on this trip!

6:00 Trails End Dinner This is our "resort" night we'll go over to Trails End and hopefully have time to visit Chip and Dales Sing a long campfire.

11:00 Plaza Resturant Lunch This is another one I'm not super excited about... I really wanted to spend the morning at Disney Springs and hopefully have lunch there... So I'm hoping that maybe some more Disney Springs TS restaurants open up as DDP options and I might switch there. Particularly I'm hoping for Splitsville.

6:05 Whispering Canyon Cafe Dinner It's a restaurant in our hotel and I've heard it's fun so I thought we'd give it a try

4:45 Tony's Town Square Resturant Dinner I mean really who doesn't love Lady and the Tramp

I also have a pirate's League reservation that I'm super looking forward to! I can't wait! I get to be a mermaid!

The only other thing I'm thinking about is Behind the Seeds. I'll make a descion in the mext couple months regaurding that because of flower and garden. But I've always wanted to do that tour and what better time then Flower and Garden!

Wow! A lot has happened since I last checked in with you! Super excited that you are actually booked and ADRs made! Cool! :woohoo: That really makes the trip a reality! :jumping1:

From the look of your ADR list, it looks like you will have a great time! We ate at Ohana for dinner and it was our favorite of the trip. :love:I also really loved our BOG lunch. You will love the atmosphere and the food was good too! :dogdance:

I want to take my kids to Whispering Canyon for lunch or dinner. I have read the reports and know it is something that they would really get a kick out of -- so it is definitely on my plans for my next trip. :wizard: I am looking forward to reading your review when you return.

I have also read a lot of great reviews of Trails End Buffet so it sounds like a good choice for you all.

Do you realize your trip is less than 5 months away? SWEET! :dancer:

It sure did! It felt like nothing was happening and then it all happened so fast! I can't believe my trip is only 122 days away! I'm getting so excited! I think I'm starting to annoy the people at work with all my excitedness at least as a family we're all getting excited so the Disney tallk isn't as annoying as it was before around the house!

Update time!

122 Days till we leave!
Next milestone date Fast Pass Date: January 3rd

So much has happened so quickly! I ended up sending IPO an E-mail last week after I figured out Fantasmic packages had opened and I hadn't gotten a follow-up E-mail from them about if they had made my Fantasmic reservation and I couldn't see anything in MDE either.... Actually it just showed up this morning. Now I felt kind of bad about being pushy about it because I'm sure they had lots of people to make reservations for so I was sort of hoping we'd have flights booked and I could just ask them when I sent in my magical express stuff but we didn't so I booked the behind the seeds tour and just asked if they had been able to make the Fantasmic reservations. I don't know if they had already made the reservations or made them that day when I sent the E-mail but either way we have a reseervation for behind the seeds and Hollywood and Vine for Fantasmic!

We also booked flights! We arrive in Florida at 11:55 and leave at 2:00 10 days later... But lets not think about that part just yet.

I totally understand your need to check on the Fantasmic dinner reservation. It is something you really need to plan for and affects the rest of your planning that day.

I have never seen Fantasmic! Crazy, I know! I think it would be exciting to see.
But HS is not one of our favorite parks, there is just not a lot to do there for someone like me that do not go on the big thrill rides (not Towers of Terror and no Rock N Rolll coaster).

Still, I would like to see Fantasmic. We normally do not get park hoppers and are fine without them. But if we did have park hoppers we could use them to go to HS in the evening.

I was actually more concerned with the restaurant for Fantasmic! I was tallking to mom one day about the 2 resturants I told IPO I wanted and realized just how badly I wanted Hollywood and Vine! So I said something so I knew I would get it before ADR's ran out. I even came up with a plan if I couldn't get it for the night I wanted!

I feel you on HS not being one of your favorite parks... I don't like thrill rides either... I'm not all that big on fireworks either useually I'm not a huge fan of loud noises. But my mom loves them so Fantasmic was a bit of a compromise last time we went and I absloutly loved it. I'm hoping to get to see illuminations and Wishes this go round. I suggested not getting park hoppers this time as I knew I could easlily plan the trip without them but my dad really wanted park hoppers and I do like the freedom of being able to say we're done here lets go to a diffrent park...

Glad you were able to get Hollywood and Vine!

And it is nice to hear that you loved Fantasmic! I will have to put it on my list of things to do for sure for our next trip. It is nice to have new things to try out each trip. Of course that is easy for me to do since I go only every four years or so and we have only been three times with my kids and I only two other times before that and one of those trips was when there was only MK!

I think you should definitely try to see :tinker:Wishes, you will love it. Try watching from say the Poly beach. :beach:

:tink:You can watch them from afar, the noise level will not be too bad but you can still listen to the music that goes along with it with the speakers that are on the beach.

:tink: I have not done this yet myself but I have watched them from the ferry landing on the side with the parking lot and it was nice to watch. But there wasn't any music. :crazy2:

Same here! We go about every 4 or 5 years. I really wanted to go to WDW for the 50th (not the actual day of the anniversary but some time in the 50th year) but that ment going this year/next year to keep the 5 year thing going. I like it because like you said there are always so many new things to do!

I've been thinking about watching it from the poly beach if I'm not up to being in the parks for it... But I'm hoping I get hit by the magic of Disney and manage to stay in the park!

I, too, would love to be at WDW for their 50th Anniversary in 2021. The actual day will be crazy so maybe I should change my tentative (big dream) plans to go sometime during that year. I expect they will have a lot of cool things that are special for that year.

I'm not planning on being there the actual day of the anniversary because crowds... But I'm aiming for November of that year so some of the initial excitement should still be there! :jumping1:

I missed a milestone update this week! Friday was Doubble Digit Day! I can't believe how close our trip is and I know with the holidays it's going to go super fast!

Right now we're dealing with the problems with the Disney reservation upgrades... We want to pay off our trip but... of course we can't because the online payment thing isn't working.... For now we're just waiting it out because it's not crazy crunch time yet but I'm still hoping it will come back up soon! I don't want to worry about it anymore!

It's Fastpass Day!!

I can not believe I only have 60 days left! That's absolutely crazy! Today I got to book my fastpasses! I've never done this before! I thought it was going to be crazy and stressful but it wasn't so bad! The hardest part was that this spring trip is so different from a summer trip! I'm so used to parks closing at 9:00 or later that trying to book all these fastpasses this morning was a little harder. But I think I'm happy with what I got! I'm going to hold off on sharing them though I want to post daily schedule type things over the next few weeks. :)

Joining in with the fun!! Loving the plans so far. Glad that it looks like it will be an all family trip. I have done a solo trip a couple of years ago. It was fun but also a little lonely. It is always better when you can do things with people you love. I love your resort options. One day I hope to be able to do a deluxe but it is not in the cards for this trip.:(

Looking forward to hearing more about your trip and congrats on the Job promotion.

Hello and Welcome!

Wow! Double digits and Fastpasses in place! 2017 - the trip is quickly approaching!
Happy that your Fastpass planning went well.

Big Update Today!

First the exciting stuff! We paid off our trip yesterday!!! WOOOHOOO!

Then I know I said I wanted to do daily schedules and I still do and they start today! My plan is to do 2 updates a week for the next 5 weeks and then it's Disney Time!

So today's update is a little boring because it's arrival day... But here's the plan.

We Fly out about 8:00 AM. So it's to the airport about 6:00 AM

We should land in Orlando just before Noon. We may stop at the airport for lunch or we may just head to Magical Express depends on if we're hungry :P

The rest of the day is for resort exploring and we may head to Disney Springs for dinner at some point.

In summary Day 1 is just adjust to vacation day no parks this day just travel and relaxing. The fun starts on Day 2!
