Day One~ April 17: Epcot
We go ahead and get our regular MYW tickets changed to Annual Passes. The CM gave DH Donald since he MUST be a wisecracker
and I now have Minnie as my AP character.
Before we headed to Soarin, we stopped off for some pictures in front of the Classic Disney characters topiaries in the front of the park. I knew right away, that I would really enjoy the Flower and Garden Festival (F&G F). They were all so well done! I spotted a hidden Mickey (HM) right away, on Plutos collar. I explained to DH how there would be special HMs around Epcot for the F&G F. He really got into the search with me! Over the course of our stay, we spotted only 20 or so, but it sure was fun!
We enjoyed walking around Epcot and really took our time to appreciate all the details. We stopped near Test Track (TT) to check out the line situation and get a feel of how our week would be. OUCH! A 50 minute wait?!? Are you crazy?!?! But then again, it WAS a Sunday. It should die down this week, right? HA! Little did I know that it was a sign of things to come. Remember, DH and I usually visit WDW in September when things are a lot slower
Yes, we bypassed TT and walked over to The Land. I took a few more pictures of the special topiaries and exhibits on the way over. If only this could be a scratch-n-sniff trip report, because the fragrance that fills the park is outstanding. Everywhere you walk, you are consumed by the smell of all the flowers. I really felt at one with Mother Nature and all her beauty. DH seemed to be in a Soarin mind frame, so I picked up the pace a little and walked into The Land. I dont feel bad in saying, that it sure felt good to flash our APs and walk past the people who were wondering what was going on. Thank you Lord for our upgrade from MYW tickets! We looked around at the changes inside the building and both agreed it was better than the retro 70s feel that the old Land had. My favorite is the hot air balloons that represent the four seasons. Love that!
The line for Soarin was about 25 minutes so we passed the time with the trivia questions that are along the walls of the queue. I really enjoyed these as well. The graphics were very well done! DH wanted to take a picture of the queue line, so here it is:
I know, it doesnt do the actual justice. But hey, DH wanted to share it with the world! LOL. I began to get really excited as we neared the beginning of the ride. We were placed into 4 separate lines. We knew that line 1 was the top of the ride, but we were placed in line 2. We walked into the room, sat in our seats and strapped in.
I wont go into any details of the ride, because it was spoiled for me before I had left for Disney. Mind you it was my fault since I read about knowing the article would describe the ride in detail. A side note about this: I had not told my DH some of the secrets so that he would fully enjoy the ride on his own. Needless to say, after a month of keeping these secrets hidden from my DH, the CM who upgraded our tickets decided she needed to inform us about this new ride. I groaned when she cheerfully told us of things to look out for, smiled, and nodded as I did not want to be rude. Inside I was disappointed that DH didnt find out on his own. Oh well, life goes on
At the end of the ride, DH and I felt the same way- we were surprised at how boring it was. I think we had built ourselves up so much over this new ride (to us at least since neither of us have been to Disneyland in over 10 years), and it came nowhere close to our expectations. I did enjoy bits and pieces of it, and I will admit the novelty was awesome at first. So enough about that. I know of many people who have ridden Soarin and LOVE it. DH and I just dont happen to be one of those people. Ok, one more thing: I just cant imagine standing in line for 1 hour to see that ride not worth it. Ok, for real this time, I am moving on.
After changing our PS for Biergarten from 5 pm to 2 pm, DH and I decided to walk around World Showcase (WS) until it was time to eat. Actually, it was around 1:15 and we were really starving. A pack of pretzels from the flight just didnt tie us over well. We arrived at Biergarten around 1:40 pm and were seated within minutes. Mmmm .Heaven on Earth! The Biergarten is one of my favorite places to eat. I know, it isnt like I have eaten at many places, but of those, it is my fave! I love the German bologna and cheese spreads on the buffet. I had been yearning for this since last September. In the past it has been very filling and enjoyable. Not this time. I was quite disappointed to see half of the buffet not being utilized for any foods. There seemed to be minimal cold cuts and absolutely NO cheeses that my two eyes could find. I even sat down and asked DH if he wouldnt mind checking it out himself. He really was into the mac-n-cheese at that moment, but reluctantly he went (because DH loves me very much
). None. He came back empty handed and I think a little sad for me. I asked our lovely waitress if they no longer carried the cheese. She returned back to me with a plate FULL of cheeses, and informed me that they no longer serve cheeses during the lunch buffet. My hear sank and leapt at the same time! How sweet of her to go through the troubleof bringing me the plate of cheese! Who knew a human being could be so moved by such an act! I mean, CHEESE! It wasnt even chocolates, but I still loved the gesture the same (DH did make sure to tip over 20% for that too). We
errr
I mean I got our beers to go in one plastic cup and we continued around the WS.
At this point, DH called the number to see if our room was ready and it was. Yippee!!! The beer had done its trick and I was flying high off of the alcohol and adrenaline from staying onsite!
