We're updating our kitchen and buying all new, stainless-steel appliances. Got a deal on both the cooktop and the double ovens, We spurged a little on the fridge, did fine, price-wise, on the microwave & dishwasher. But when it came time to purchase the trash compactor, we were quoted $750! On-line, DH found the range from $680 to $980. The salesman was able to find a cheaper one, but sheesh. Seems like a lot to spend for something that we wish we didn't have to replace.

Now, on to picking out the backsplash. We chose the granite today.

At least we don't have to pick out new cabinets or flooring (those are the parts we're not upgrading.)

Oh, yeah, we have to choose our 2 pendant lights too.

I love my compactor, its' a Whirlpool, not the priciest but a good middle of the road one. I will say that I've already had to replace a gear on it though, apparently everything is made of plastic nowadays!

I will recommend buying your bags at Sears though, as much as it pains me to say that (I HATE SEARS). Theirs are like $8 for a pack as opposed to $12 or more for 12. They're pretty sturdy too.

I don't envy you all the decisions, that's the hardest part! I mean, I waited till we had redone everything to decide to convert my oh so 90s pot lights over the sink to pendents, I finally decided on stained glass ones to kind of continue my "old world theme".

We had a trash compactor put in when we remodeled our house years ago. It finally died and when I went to price out a replacement, I know my eyes bugged out of my head! We went ahead and had a trash drawer built that matched the cupboards wonderfully, and spent about 1/3 the price of the compactor. Wish we had done it long ago!

This is why we have never replaced ours! We have lived in our home for 10 years and it has just been hanging one ...but barely!! It's the bottom of my list to spend money on!!
