1st time I've attempted this, please help.

Booked @ VWL for Oct. trip (using '05 banked points), want to try & stay @ BCV.

Checked w/MS & they indicated that for best chance of success, I should try to book w/'06 points, day-by-day.

Once the res. is secured, I would cancel WL trip & request to have the '05 & '06 points re-allocated:confused3 . CM said that way I'd use up my '05's on the BCV instead of having them banked to '06.???

Currently, the BW studios are unavailable, hoping that someone else will be looking to trade out, wonder what my chances are (it's Columbus Day week)?

Feel bad about the thought of hogging up 2 different reservations if I have to WL for a few nights @ the BCV though.

I would just do a straight waitlist for the entire time. I would not borrow, etc. What if all your days never come through and your stuck with half your reservation at multiple resorts? At least now you have all your days.

I guess that's what I'm confused about...

The CM said to keep the VWL res. until I get all of the BCV.

She said there'd be no borrowing involved since the trip would fall into my '06 year.

She lost me when she indicated:

*once you get all of your BCV (using '06 points),

*you cancel the VWL (made w/'05 points that were banked),

* then we'll re-allocate the '05's to cover the BCV res. and

*you'll have the '06 points intact.

Sounds great to me, just afraid I got mis-information & will get stuck holding '05 banked points when I cancel the VWL res.

Has anyone else done this before?

I don't know if you can just swap the points used for one reservation (current use year points for banked ones). To do this your newly acquired BCV reservation would have to be cancelled. Once cancelled, you could (in theory), lose your reservation to other members calling, or other members on a waitlist.

Why don't you book the VWL studio with your 06 points. Then, begin building your BCV reservation with your banked 05 points. This you could do day by day with the waitlist. When your reservation is complete, drop you VWL reservation and you will have your 06 points intact.

Thanks, will call MS & inquire - again LOL.

No, they are right, we did that last year.
Do keep your VWL ressies if you wouldnt mind staying there, then you dont lose your ressies where you would like. Then try and add the ones you prefer. Once you get your whole trip booked where you want it, cancel the one you no longer want. They will use the points you indicate you want to use and free up the rest. Basically they will do a cancel and rebook all at the same time, but using your other points. It works out just fine, it is the way to do it if you have enough points to do it!!!! MS does this everyday, take their advice......thats what they are there for! :thumbsup2

Since you are booking at the 7 month window, I don't see why you couldn't do it the way the MS CM suggested. It would be nice to keep the VWL reservation until you are sure you have the one you want at the BCV.

I'm not sure where the BWV studios come in to play, though - unless you just meant that you would consider BWV if they were any available for your dates.

Per rule DVC is not supposed to just swap out the points. They can and will if the night was available when you try for the substitution. Thus they could swap points for any night that is available and could not for any night that was not still available Technically swapping the points is a cancellation and rebooking. Thus if you do it and there is a wait list, you will lose that night. However, I would agree with the CM that the suggested way is your best chance of being successful. Whether it's the best use of your points is another matter. Worst case scenario is you get both bookings and then can't swap the points. In that matter you could just cancel the BCV reservation and free up the current year points.

Still, this is one of those areas where DVC proves once again that they are consistently inconsistent.
