Just got the word myself! Glad this didn't last too long!
Make sure you're ready to hit the ground running - we're gonna be REALLY busy!

Don't I know it. And of course all our system ids were killed when we went out. It should be fun getting back into everything Tuesday morning. I figure there will be lots of OT to make up for the pay we lost.

Awesome news Kim!

Cant wait to see you again.:thumbsup2

Thanks, Kevin. Can't wait to see you all too. Now I just have to go at super speed to finish the chores I was working on while I was out.

Yup - it will take al least 30 minutes to think up all the new passwords! We had 22 calls in queue some days before the strike - with a wait of 1 hr 40 mins some days - so I KNOW we're gonna be "off the hook"! Sending some Pixie Dust your way for the 1st day back! :wizard:

as you know my sister was affected by this situation............strictly an observation.......but.........nothing was accomplished, sooner or later this situation will rear its head again unless the unions decide to drop the main issues and sign long term on the old agreement. Verizon can chalk this up in the win column for the time being........dont get me wrong i am glad that everyone is back to work but what was the point?

The point was letting the company know I wasn't willing to GIVE BACK $20,000 worth of salary and benefits annually. The company is the one that caved on the negotiations. Not the union.

Glad to hear you'll be joining us in December Kim!

I'm glad to hear this. I hope things went well for you guys and you're satisfied with the agreement. :thumbsup2

I am in CWA in MO, working for AT&T, glad to hear you are back to work, good luck in the next few weeks!

Not a win for Verizon at all, they are back to the old contract which includes everything they wanted to strip away. They also know that they need to get serious at the bargaining table, and that the union will walk out again if need be.

Remember, this struggle is for much more than just money and benefits. It is also about job security, relocation of work and keeping jobs in the country.

Verizon was losing customers and public support because of this. Their managers, while they may be good at what they do, could not do the bargained for work that the union employees are so good at doing. And the scabs were just as bad.

ok, perhaps the chalk up a win statement was a poor choice of words.........what i meant was the status quo remains unchanged, the company is getting the work done without having to change a thing and the stress is still on the workforce because they could be required to walk again at any time. the OP was all excited and i got the feeling that she felt all of the problems had been resolved when in fact nothing had actually changed as far as the tipping points are concerned. sorry if i did not make myself clear.

Both sides agreed not to claim victory but this was definitey a win for the union. When the last two contracts expired we continued to work under the old contract as they negotiated the new one. Before going out on strike Verizon let the union know that if we continued to come to work after the contract expired they would not honor the old contract. Which meant they could fire anyone for no reason and they would be discontinuing all benefits including medical.

It may take a few months to negotiate a new contract but the difference is that now Verizon is negotiating where before they weren't.

The fact that the union members are back to work without any changes is a victory for the union, and not for the company. It was Verizon that wanted to make changes. The contract under which they are working now includes the job security language and many other features that Verizon wanted to strip away.
