Has anyone eaten there and what do they think , we are thinking of booking lunch for my sisters 30th birthday ,as we all have young children with and they will not enjoy it in the evening. Any other suggestions for more upscale special restaurants on Disneyland Paris property????

Hi Gracey,

DON'T DO IT IT!!!! I went there for my 30th birthday evening 2 months ago and I cannot recall a time when I have had such bad food or service. I should qualify this statement by saying that I did have some other absolutely fantastic meals at DLP but this was definitely not one of them!

The restaurant itself is really well themed and had a nice atmosphere. We ordered the set menu (perhaps this is where we went wrong but we had set meals at other restaurants and they were great).

They were pretty busy (that's fine, generally adds to the atmosphere) but we were seated right by where all the servers rushed by with plates etc and tended to get banged into quite a bit. Again, that's OK - I can live with that if the food's good.

First course: asparagus soup. This had obviously been sat on a hot plate for some time as there was a very thick crust on it (and the rolls were stale).

Second course: I has steak (rare) which was rare when it was cooked I would guess but again had been sat on a hot plate for a length of time and had literally welded itself to the plate! The accompanying baked potato was black with burnt cheese yet was stone cold (cooked, but had been left to cool down again). My husband had chicken curry which tasted something like a microwave meal (the rice was a glutinous lump and the sauce indescribable)

My daughters' meals were fine but it's hard to go wrong with chicken nuggets ;) - they did get some really sweet menus to go with their meal but there seemed to be individual menu's for wach restaurant we went to.

I would have sent the above food back or at least complained but literally we did not see our waitress except when she plonked each course on the table and then ran. Generally I'm quite assertive in these situations (!) but I kept thinking it would get better and I didn't want to make a big deal on my birthday night. I was certainly ready to complain after the appalling main course but after waiting 55 minutes (!) to try and get her attention we just decided to leave. After requesting the bill from a different server 35 minutes(!) later we were able to leave. I've never been so glad to leave somewhere!!

Reading all of the above, you must be thinking "why on earth didn't the silly person complain?" but really there was just noone to complain to - and I did not want to cause an argument on my birthday. Leaving quietly seemed the path of least resistance and to try and recapture some magic for the rest of my birthday.

As to where else you can eat, we ate in the following "upscale" restaurants (depending on how you term this) and they were absolutely fantastic! (Both in the Disneyland Park)

Auberge de Cendrillon. Beautiful setting and atmosphere, great service and perfect food. Thoroughly recommend! If the children you are going with are girls even better as it's Cinderella themed (Cendrillon) but not in a way that would offend boys.

Blue Lagoon: Extremely atmospheric (set by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride) and really really good food - tending towards seafood, but with choices for non-seafood lovers. Thoroughly recommend.

Gosh, sorry about this post!! What a tirade! I had not posted about this before because I was afraid it would sound very negative and as a rule I like to see the best in things. It's entirely possible they were just having on off night. But I'm afraid I could not say anything good about the Steakhouse. Go anywhere, but don't go here!

I hope you have a lovely time wherever you go.

i had dinner there, too and was disappointed....

you might want to try the new King Ludwig`s castle restaurant in the village with great bavarian food and beers !!!

In the park i would choose the Blue Lagoon as well ... very nice atmosphere and great food !!!!!

I agree with everything Miffy said.We definatly wern't impressed with it.
We had a better meal at Annabels in the village. It was quite cheap. Massive portions, and the c.ms were really good with the kids. But I suppose if its for a 30th birthday you'll want something a bit more special.
I didn't really like the food in Planet Hollywood. We ate there twice, and both meals were nothing to write home about.

We didn't eat at The Blue Lagoon but we saw it when we were on the pirates ride and it really is in the best setting. We want to eat there on our next trip.

If you like ribs I reccomend The Rainforest cafe. They do the best ribs I've have ever had. They just fall off the bone.
Can't say much about the rest of the food there because I had the ribs on the three times we ate there :D

The Hunters grill and Walt's were nice too.

We ate at the steakhouse too and although it was OK it was not our best meal. We enjoyed the Blue Lagoon and the Manhatten at the New York (where we stayed). We also tried Cape Cod which was OK, but nothing special. Our overall favourite meal however was the California Grill. Very expensive, but well worth it. The food and service was amazing. We have also eaten at the CG at WDW and it was very different although equally as good.

Thank you all for your responses. Its nice to get them. I had started searching on google for the steakhouse and it seems there are quite a few disapointed eaters from there!!! I liked your explanation miffy 2003, very helpful.

I think we have made our minds up to go to Auberge de Cendrillon, as that seems to have raves reviews all round. Also my sister had a very very messed up birthday at WALTs many years ago, so it will break her heart to have her 30th ruined yet again. Think I may start a thread for that one to get views.

May be we should petition Disney to revisit The steakhouse to have a rethink eh ????!!!! It really spoils the Disney majic for me and Im sure lots of others as Disney World holds many special old memories and this makes Disneyland Paris seem 2nd rate version. :(

I must admit, I have only ever eaten at the Steakhouse when it has been quiet and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Wonderful steaks with good service. From the sound of things here, they really don't cope well when it is even semi-busy, so that may be the answer. The theming IS very enoyable and the kids menus seemed to go down well, too. But, from the majority, it has a lot of drawbacks.

Blue Lagoon remains one of my favourites, but Cafe Mickey is surprisingly good quality food-wise, and, on a pleasant summer evening, the upper level offers magnificent views over the lake.

Then the Hunters Grill at Sequoia Lodge is a good choice, too, and you can go for a drink at the Redwood Bar beforehand!

Plus, the food I had at the Manhattan in the Hotel New York recently was some of the best I've had at the whole resort. Not much for ambience, but a truly excellent meal.

I was interested to read how much you liked the Blue Lagoon restaurant.

I'm going to DLP in October and planned to eat there but wasn't sure. Is it expensive? Do you need to prebook and if so can you do it in your hotel or at Main Street? My guidebook isn't that clear on the subject.

Sorry to hear you had such a rotten mean on your birthday though. That was awful. Trouble is, we are too British about these things - 'don't make a fuss'. It sounds as if you had a perfect right to protest though. :bounce:

Hi Nik,

The Blue Lagoon was 108 Euro's (this was for 2 adults & 2 children). We all had 3 courses (set menu) and this also included 2 cocktails and tip.

I'm not sure how busy it will be when you go, but we tried to go on one day and they had no tables available for hours - we went back the next day having booked through the concierge desk at our hotel (Sequoia Lodge). I'm almost positive you can also book at City Hall in Main Street.

Thanks for that advice Karen, really helpful:wave2:

I'm going to DLP on my own so I wanted to make sure what I was doing. The Blue Lagoon looks really great in the brochure, doesn't it.

I'm going in October at the start of their halloween festival so I'm really looking forward to that:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Have a lovely time Nik, and enjoy the Blue Lagoon!

I found the Steakhouse terrible, it was empty, yet we were seated in a terrible position where the servers kept going past us, and the service was really slow...food was far from good.

Auberge and Blue Lagoon are great, you cant really go wrong with either of those :D

I ate there a few weeks ago.

It was the best food I had at DLP besides the breakfast in my hotel.

My food was very good and the service was excellent.

That park has the worst counter service food I have ever had.

Hi guys

Will its all booked , Auberge de Cendrillon for my sisters 30th and Blue Lagoon for my slightly older birthday !!! Think might have to save like crazy andits going to be hotdogs the rest of the time!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions , would be good to know roughly what we can expect food wise Blue lagoon , so may start a thread on that.

Best wishes,

Karen
