This is only my personal opinion and fortunately you are free to disagree, however I believe because Newfoundland is so financially oppressed the Government subsidizes the seal hunt to allow these people to survive.



Is nice to see that you are actually not trying to insult all Nflders....if that is in fact the case maybe you should look a little closer at what you are typing. That statement certainly didn't make me feel are warm and fuzzy inside.

I really question the OPs post about 'most people in this country are oppossed to this barbaric practice' I think 'most people in this country' would resent non-Canadians telling Canadians what to do which is what the Paul McCartneys and Heather Mills of this world try to do and the people with most of these petitions, including the one on the community board that started all this.
Where I live people hunt "Bambi" all the time. I'm not a hunter, nor is DH, nor is my dad or any of DH's family, but I would never presume to tell them not to hunt "Bambi".

This issue drives me absolutely nuts. It's the same thing every single year at this time of year. I really dislike the fact that animal rights groups use this issue every single year to raise money. The only reason this gets so much attention is because of the propoganda of the animal rights groups using the pic of a cute little white coat with big eyes. Yes I admit the seal pup is cute BUT it is not hunted. This is a living for many people.

I think we should get back to the main reason for these boards - our mutual love of Disney. And leave these controversial topics elsewhere.

I don't really see why this topic should be closed or forbidden as long as it doesn't get insulting or break the other board rules. This is the Canadian community board and all topics (except restricted ones) should be welcome. There have been many, many topics on this board that aren't about Disney.

It is good for people to see the many sides of this discussion. It isn't very often that those of us who don't live in the affected regions get to hear the views of those people. I think this is an excellent forum for this discussion and it can clear up many misconceptions. I'd like to thank those people from Newfoundland for speaking out and letting us know what the situation is all about from their point of view.

As long as this discussion remains civil, it shouldn't be any different than the dog food thread, the shopping at the brick thread, the what we don't like about Americans thread, etc. etc.

Agree, very interesting, according to that story, I guess it's ok for an animal to die when it suits that groups purposes, and why were they there? As I said in an earlier post, it's all about the money.

Yes this board is primarily about Disney but it is also a community board. That means that there will be other topics posted on this board. If a topic doesn't interest someone, they simply can scroll past the thread without opening it.

I agree 100% also. But you have to go back to the beginnng of this thread to see how it was all started. You can't really blame people for responding to misinformation.

I agree Debbie far to often people get the knickers in a bunch about topics heck if they think this is bad they should check out the other community board on here LOL. I appreciate all threads on here and am glad we have our own place here to discuss things I have seen some mat leave and healthcare discussions get way out of hand on the other Comm board.
