the seahorses in calvert county, md

well, we literally got home about 25 mins ago from calvert county, md. Started in north beach, sat there for 2 hrs or so, kids swam, ate lunch, found the seahorses... went to the calvert county museum (stopping quite a few times to u-turn to take seahorse pictures....). We liked the museum, loved the seahorses and saw all 25 of them. I do have a seahorse rubber stamp so that will be handy! Apparently sioux city iowa is doing big newfoundland dogs over the summer in honour of lewis and clark, if ony I were closer! Anyhow, I would recommend the pandas and the seahorses to anyone who is in the local area. maggie

Maggie, are the seahorses all over Calvert County? Or just near Solomon's Island? I tried to access the web address that was posted earlier this week, but no luck finding exact locations. Is there a list somewhere? a map maybe? Are they obvious or do you have to really look? Thank you.

A friend went to DC the other day & saw some pandas in front of the Natural History Museum.

hey judith, the seahorses are from dunkirk down to solomons. There is a map, we picked one up at Annmarie Gardens, and there were maps at the calvert musuem as well. Not all of them are easy to find (well, I guess if you know the county they are). the back of my map says "to learn more" visit:

there are 3 seahorses on north beach boardwalk, one by town hall in chesapeake beach, one by fairview library, the calvert auto in huntingtown, lord calvert bowl, calvert hospital, chapline plaza (by the foodlion kind of), in prince frederick, (the court house, the post office, the safeway enterance and adams ribs all in prince frederick), the st leonard fire station, sneades ace hardware in lusby, 2 at annmarie garden (worth seeing these two), maryland bank in solomons, the visitors center in solomons, 2 on the board walk in solomons and 2 at the calvert museum. oh, they are also in dunkirk (amaco), and the sterner building rt 2/260) (this is a medical office building)

Maggie, the other night when I tried the web site, I only got tothe page with how the seahorses came to be. BUT, today I found the map & just printed it out. The statues I clicked on look so cute! Thank you!!

How far is the drive to Clavert County from us? Looks like a fun thing to do, but not sure I can handle my crew all in just a day.

it took us 1:30 to get to north beach which is the beginning of the sea horses. I think it is only about 15 mins longer to get to calvert cliffs if you just go straight down route 4 though. We made all kinds of detours. maggie

Okay Maggie I have a new adventure for you!! I just got back from Ocean City and they have birds! We only saw 4 of them just by luck. Apprently they had them along the board walk last summer and then actioned them off. We saw two on the boards one near are hotel and one along 50 as we left. We asked several hotel staff where there was more and the story behind them but never got any good details. And too think I begged my DH to leave his laptop at home!! They weather was too nice to go on a long adventure to fine the rest but I still got cute pics of three of them. I'm thinking of layouts as I type combining panda, seahorses and birds.

P.S. I'm so glad you had fun there! It is one of my favorite places on earth (even though it is in MD.) You would never believe such a small peaceful place is so close to our Metro madness. Did you find any sharks teeth at the museum? My kids favorite activity.
