PBS is airing an older Springsteen concert and he just sang an awesome version of Thunder Road. Now he's jamming on Tenth Avenue Freeze Out. Nobody could do it like Bruce. When he is on with his lyrics they are just so unbelievable. I remember in hs cruising thru Asbury Park, not the best place, hoping for a Bruce siting. So many folks used to see him. We'd go to the Stone Pony when Southside Johnny was playing for the same reason. Anybody else love the Boss? I wish I had tivo'd this.

wow they just said this concert was from 75. I knew he looked so young.

yep. pain in the butt. But if I could swing the 180. i would make the donation because it's a really great package they're offering.

Yep. At least the old stuff. I really haven't paid much attention since the mid-80's. Pledge drive brings out the best shows. I saw an As Time Goes By reunion special last weekend on our local PBS station.

i'm not a big fan of the newer stuff either but that's more because i love the old stuff. He's doing Born to Run now. I'm getting nostalgic and teary. When you listen to this it just takes you back to being 18 or so.

The work that he puts into his lyrics are second to none... My personal favorite is "Meeting Across The River".

right now he's doing Rosalita. One of my faves for sure. Closets are for hangers, women use the door.

Hmmmm... Is that the Wonderland concert?

I think it is. I have a bootleg album (some sort of old technology my kids have never used) from the Winterland Concert. The PBS concert is great and I Tivo'd it. His stuff from 75-80 was just great. I saw him play at The Fast Lane in Asbury Park the night the US beat Russia in hockey at the Olympics. Came out with Beaver Brown. Played two songs in two hours - Twist and Shout and Rosalita. Fantastic.

Tiggeroo - I am shocked. The correct lyrics are "Closets are for hangers, winners use the door". I think you should repent by listening to Rosalita 10 times today. Different versions from different concerts and albums :goodvibes :goodvibes

When I was growing up in Cleveland, Bruce used to play there about 3 or 4 times a year. Southside Johnny as well. They were both pretty good friends with a local DJ/station manager called "Kid Leo" from WMMS and he would appear on stage with either of them. The Boss did a handful of free concerts at the old Agora (small hall concert venue/bar downtown). Great shows

I tuned in the other night just as he started Thunder Road and I went directly back to High School! Every Jersey girl was in love with Bruce back then. I love the old Bruce, not so fond of the new one. Those old lyrics were the best weren't they?

His lyrics on "The Rising" were some of the most powerful he has ever written. Especially on the title track:

Can't see nothin' in front of me...
Can't see nothin' comin' up behind...
On my back a fifty pound stone,
Over my shoulder a half-mile of line.

Whenever I first heard that, I saw in my mind's eye a NYC firefighter climbing the stairs through the smoke in the World Trade Center, hauling hoses to fight the fire.

Just so you know, it's "Closets are for hangers, winners use the door" ;)

Boy does that take me back. Southside still does Cleveland a few times a year either at the Tower City Amphitheater or another small venue.

Wish I would've known this was on!

If you buy the new 30th anniversary edition of Born To Run, this concert DVD, from the Hammersmith Odeon in London (1975) is included, along with a DVD of the making of BTR. The new CD of BTR is very nicely done, especially the way it looks!

QUOTE]Closets are for hangers, winners use the door". [/QUOTE] oh man i'm so ashamed. I just did a cut and paste and it was late and i was er er er er.....
i'm going out to get the 30th anniversary set. I love Bruce now and I loved him then.
What's interesting is that due to alot of reasons this was rumoured to be a really bad performance. That Bruce wasn't really up to performing that night. I love the way he interacts with Clarence and Little Stephen, etc. I've never seen him perform without them although I wish I could have gone to the Atlantic City shows last month.

I finally got to see him live a few years back at Giants Stadium- I have never seen a crowd so into a show. We were all dancing and screaming. I was fortunate to have literally bumped into him in a doorway in Red Bank on September 12, 2001 where he and his wife (well she) was shopping. He was great!
