It was great to see @Disney at Heart and DH. Chatted with both. They were drenched but in good spirits. @princesspirateandrunner recognized us from MW and got fist bumps. It was really hot.
DH enjoyed seeing you, too! I wasn’t far enough to the left side when I came through to get to see you, unfortunately, but I think I got a glimpse of Whisky. It was definitely a hot one! I hadn’t trained well, but made it through okay. It just doesn’t seem like the Fourth without Peachtree, does it? What a fun day!It was great to see @Disney at Heart and DH. Chatted with both. I always feel like my treadmill must be a little fast because it seems so much harder! On a long run earlier this week my brain decided to overthink speed error on my treadmill. So I did some rough video analysis (painted an approximately inch square white on the black belt, measured the belt length, had a program count frames between seeing the white square at the same spot) to calculate speed. This probably isn't the kind of thing people are super interested in, but if anyone were going to be, I figured it'd be here on a Sunday.
I got my Pro Form 995-SEL treadmill in a broken condition from one of the Habitat for Humanity REStores (which area great!) for $10. so I assumed it'd be on the worse end for this test.
Data were collected while not running (I imagine running would make it slightly worse), after the belt had come to speed, averaged over 30 seconds. My treadmill claims to max out at 10mph which probably explains the spike in error at the top end. All error was too slow.

My no-name treadmill from Amazon is absolutely terrible at getting the speed correct. Of course, it also can't keep time correctly, so I'm not terribly shocked (I start the treadmill, let it get up to speed, then hop on and start the workout on my watch, so the treadmill should always be about 30 seconds ahead of the workout time on my watch, but before the 10 minute mark, they're even, and it just gets worse from there)On a long run earlier this week my brain decided to overthink speed error on my treadmill. Attqotd: although not exactly the question, I won’t run with any glasses. I sweat too much for them to be useful at allQOTD:
Glasses while running (not prescription) that aren't sunglasses? Clear lenses? Yellow lenses? Do these have a useful purpose, or are they just to "look cool" and spend money on?
I saw some ultra runner's video talking about her yellow-lensed glasses being for "night vision" (aka low-light conditions) but also don't trust the info on face value because sponsors. I have been wondering about some non-sun-blocking glasses since the bugs seem to want to dive-bomb my face when I run in the evening lately.
ATTQOTD: If you could find some comfortable safety glasses, I've found they work well for keeping bugs out of your eyes (at least when walking in the yard, I haven't tried running in them)QOTD:

I used to try biking on the greenway in the evenings, and had to quit doing so during summer due to all the bug strikes, so I hear you.QOTD:

Just a comment on the transition lenses part... I once had sunglasses with transition lenses for trail running. I thought it would be useful for the going-into-and-out-of sunlight that happens a lot on wooded trails, but they didn't transition fast enough to be useful for this.I have a pair of Oakleys that have the transition lenses. I run in the morning so they start off clear, but they provide protection as the sun comes up.
I sweat a ton, but I have to wear something for the exact reason you mentioned. Gnats are awful, and I'm sick of stopping and trying to pick them out of my eyes while I'm trying to run.
Truth! While the tech has gotten dramatically better, it still takes a good 30 seconds for mine to change enough for me to see clearly. I've been kicking around trying clip-on shades for my frames, but that seems like a pain to stash and retrieve. I have seen some targeted ads for clip-on shades that attach to a hat or visor brim and flip up out of the way when not needed. I do usually wear a visor for longer distances if sun is forecasted, so I'm curious how well those actually work.Just a comment on the transition lenses part... I like a visor very much for trail running where I'll be in "dappled" sunlight because of small breaks in the tree canopy. I will generally not wear sunglasses then (put them on top of visor).Truth! I feel like that's a good concept, but possibly very limiting in how you position your hat. Some people barely have their hat on their head (think trucker hats) while others have their hat *all* the way on their head, but have the bill tipped up higher.Good idea. FWIW, this is the thing I keep seeing. Curious if anyone has actually tried this or similar?
