Welcome to the 2019 edition of the running thread! Going strong in it's 4th year!

"Seriously, nobody here cares how fast or far you run. We all just love running and, of course, Disney" @ZellyB

The idea behind this thread is to discuss anything related to running. I welcome all levels of runners to participate, from someone who is just looking into getting into running/walking, to elite runners. All distances are also open to discussion. I believe we all have a lot to learn from one another as well as motivate each other along the way. Each day I will post a Question Of The Day (QOTD) to help keep the conversation going. I also support those who would like to post what there workout is each day, or weekly. It can be running, swimming, bike, weights, or whatever it is you do to exercise.

In the OP I will keep a list, which you are not obligated to partake in, of races fellow posters are running in the coming weeks, months, years... If you would like to be included on the list please provide the following information: Name of race and distance, date, goal time, actual finish time. I will keep the list updated as the information becomes available in this post. Races will be listed by date and both Disney and non Disney races are welcomed to the list.

Thanks for running this thread again this year! My short term goal is to hit 70 runs out of 100 in the Slowtwitch 100 in 100 challenge. I'm a bit behind thanks to too many good meals over the holidays. Long term goal this year is to get a late fall marathon in, probably Richmond or Space Coast, along with a 70.3 or full IM and prep for Dopey 2020.

ATTQOTD: I don’t really have any short term running goals. I do have a few long term goals though. My goals for this year are to 1) run 1,500 miles for the year; 2) get PRs for 5K, 10k, half-marathon, & marathon; 3) Complete 26 races. 4) Keep an actual tracking of my runs this year. To go along with that, does anyone have any suggestion on spreadsheets or the like to best do that? Thanks.

For my New Year’s Day race, I started the year out great, and already hit one goal. I PR’ed with a time of 27:56.

I have most of my 26 races planned out, but I won’t bombard you with them all at once. So right now I’ll give the one I’m doing in the next couple months:

I am excited for the new thread!

Short term goal- stay healthy for the next week and a half, start, finish, and enjoy my first half marathon- it IS at Disney so it has to be at least a bit fun, right?
Shortish term goal- run throughout the winter! I was pretty scared off of a NY Day run as it had rained the day before and was hovering around freezing (in conflict with goal above), but I did not hate the treadmill, even if I could not bring myself to do a long run on it. So, I want to keep up the lunch hour running outside through out the winter.
Longer term: Stay healthy, pick a second half marathon, run more this year than last, find a training plan I like.

Question seeking Opinions:
How do you pick a race? I am debating a march race (http://epicraces.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/AA_Half-Marathon_Cert_Map_Final_RFrench_5-13-18b.pdf) or a June race (http://dxa2.com/wp-content/uploads/halfmap.jpg). The former has the chance of snow and freezing rain or great weather, the later was a monsoon last year and alternates between hot and amazing. Also, the later has no elevation map. Is March is too soon to properly train? Which weather is more tolerable? {also waiting to see a conference schedule to see if I could tack on part of Rival Run weekend, but not sure that is a better idea than the others}.

@LSUlakes Thank you for so much for running this year's thread again!! I am looking forward to another great running year.

ATTQOTD: Short term goal is to finish Goofy in January. Slightly longer term post Goofy is to get back to a regular running routine, get back to cross training / strength training and get back to playing basketball since my self imposed suspension from the first half of the season for fear of getting hurt and impacting marathon weekend. Longer term goals are going to depend on how my first marathon goes and what races I run/train for in 2019. I know I would like to try to do a 5K since I have not done one since 2014.

For now, here is what I have registered in 2019:

QOTD: What are your short term and long term running goals for 2019?

Thanks for keeping the yearly thread going @LSUlakes . It is always a fun thread.

I am not 100% set on my 2019 goals at the moment. I'm taking January and February to do read up on some new training methods and concentrating on doing easy lower heartrate training. I've been concentrating on that for the past few months as well but work has been busy and I've not been as consistent as I would have liked.

One running goal I know I will have for 2019 is to spend more time in the weight room working on functional strength and dedicating more time to short sprint workouts this summer. I have been neglecting that the past few years and think that is necessary to push my running ahead.

My short term goal is to complete the Dopey injury free. Long-term goal is to complete 1,000 miles in 2019, and hopefully find a team to do a Ragnar with, and possibly try out a Spartan run.
