The Running Thread - 2016

Last night on Netflix I came across a movie called "Walt Before Mickey". Is it worth a watch?
I think so. I have already watched it. It's a decent film about Walt before he created the character Mickey Mouse and what led him to create that character.

I saw that too! I'll probably watch it tonight or tomorrow.

Did you watch the PBS mini-series on Walt?
I did. I thought the PBS series was good despite the criticism it got. It's hard to portray a fair documentary on someone's life. Sure there are things they could've done better but it was a good series.

I really loved the PBS documentary too! I think only showing the "good parts" of someone's life is boring. Real life means making mistakes, but it doesn't take away from the extraordinary things one creates!

Got that world running day run in! Rain stayed away.

Just came back from the global running day 5K at my run club,we got sunglasses and bibs(just for fun),ice cream and red bull.I'm convinced running hit a peak sometime in 2014,that year my run club probably had at least 400-500 people turn out for national running day, last year and today was probably in the 250-300 range, still a lot of people but its leveled off.One thing I got from the run today is that even though I've done a ton of races earlier this year I haven't run that much since the Dark side challenge and it showed cause I felt out of gas in the south Florida heat and humidity,I finished and ran the whole way but between not running much lately and serious heat it wiped me out.

Was that the two episodes of American Experience that they did on Walt? I have those on my TiVo but haven't gotten around to watching yet.

I am to tired now but I WILL find this and watch it.

I bought it when it came out on DVD. I thought it was really good. I will say the first 1/2 they made him sound like he walked on water and the second 1/2 got very negative in the other direction, it was like 2 extremes. But, I LOVE Walt. He is one of my biggest role models, if not the biggest (outside of my grandmother). I love watching and reading anything new on him I can find.

QOTD: I ran yesterday so today I should have been on the bike but I felt really good and my ankle has been hurting less so I went and did just under 5 miles after work tonight. I got in a really good run. I have been doing slower runs to work on the Zone 2 stuff we have been talking about but tonight I felt really good so I pushed it. It was a great run. Perfect weather. I love these runs when they happen.

The PBS series was really good. It really painted the whole picture of Walt and the times he came up in. I found it inspiring. Some parts were a bit rough if you are a Walt could do no wrong person, but I felt it was balanced and I learned a few new things about him. Given the he number of books and documentaries I have read/seen that is saying something. Worth seeing.

May totals: 144 miles

QOTD: I did not run today, and did not know it was National Running Day until reading the thread. Bummer! Will run tomorrow though.

Just wanted to say thanks to the responses to my idea about a meet up at the WDW Marathon Weekend. I will bring it up again as we get closer. If we can make it happen it would be cool to meet some of you!

The Walt movie that had Thomas Ian Nicholas was awful. Like so awful we couldn't get through it and was dumbfounded on how bad it was..

My toe is still pretty swollen so i am going to skip running today and Saturday for sure. I will hopefully be good for Tuesday.

I am really enjoying reading about everyone else's progress, its motivating me, so i hope to stick around here and follow along!

Life happened this week and I haven't gotten a run in since last Wednesday! I did walk a ton this weekend while I was out of town but I am so worried that I will feel like garbage at my race Sunday. I PLAN on getting in the 5 miles from yesterday, tonight, then the 3 I'm supposed to do tonight, tomorrow. Hopefully that will help.

On the 220, it's the bottom right button. I hit it sometimes when I **** my wrist to check the watch. :o Not so much recently, but I have been making an effort to not **** my wrist back and instead just hold it up with a neutral wrist.

Edit: Ok apparently I used a bad word there to try and convey that I am tilting my wrist backwards.

Got around to watching it last night. I enjoyed it. DW is telling me I have a Disney problem because of the amount of time I spend reading about the park and whats going on... I also got 4 miles in on the TM last night after the retirement party for my boss. I stayed for the first hour, but was just in a down mood. My step dad passed yesterday around lunch time and as one could imagine I was not in a very social mood. The run helped and the movie kept my mind from wondering to much. I had a really good 4 miler this morning around my neighborhood. Didn't really set out with any goal other than to get he miles in but ended up with negative splits and a average pace around 7:35. Hope this is a good sign for the race this weekend, but I am not sure how long I can hold that pace at this time. I have been lacking long runs.

Sorry about your toe. I may have missed it, but what is causing the issue?

Seconding this. I've been lurking for awhile and have learned a lot already. I've trained for a few rD races over the last couple of years and seem to always run into the same problem: a fear of success. I'll get to a point in my training and then slack off when I'm about 2/3rds of the way to my goal. I usually get intimidated when the longer runs come up in training and find a reason to push them back until I'm hopelessly behind and then I end up undertrained going into the race.

So my goal this time is to keep up with the training for the WDW Half in January and not let my fears take over again. Right now I'm training for a 5K on July 9 and everything is going well to this point. *fingers crossed* it stays that way.
