QOTD: How much does your pace vary for your weekend long as compared to your race pace for either a half of full (Which ever applies to you)?
My pace on my long runs is determined by my heart rate/effort level. Basically, I run comfortably, which results in a pace 60-90 seconds slower than my race pace.

About once/month I add tempo miles at the end of my long run - those would be right at race pace - but the rest of my mileage for that run would be at a comfortable pace.

Currently, my long runs are supposed to be 1:06 per mile slower than goal race pace for the half marathon.
 
I'm not sure but I think my half marathon pace should be about 30-60 seconds faster than my long run pace. This was true last training cycle. My long run pace has been faster this training cycle so I hope my half marathon pace ends up being so too.
 
My weekend long run pace is 40 seconds (or 9%) slower than my desired full marathon pace. I allow a window of +/- 10 seconds for each mile interval (depending on desired effort level) so in the end it is somewhere between 30-50 seconds slower (or 6-11%).

Well since I've only done Disney races my weekend runs don't have the stops like they do during a Disney race. So my pace is better during my weekend runs than during a Disney race but I don't know any exact numbers.

ATTQOTD: Gawdforbidamilliontimes I should answer a simple question with a simple answer, lol! Um, it depends. ;) So, in summer, my pace slows way, way down because hello - it's Florida: I'm basically running on the surface of the sun, right? We're talking a difference of 2-5 minutes/mile compared to winter. I've already suffered heat stroke a couple times, and I'm not looking for another run of that. In cooler weather, my long training pace winds up being about :30-:60 slower than race pace. Assuming I'm actually racing. My Disney fun "race" pace is easily 2-3 minutes slower than my training pace, lol!
 
ATTQOTD: I haven't raced the distance I am currently training for so it's a bit of an unknown how I will perform at my race. But my long run is at a consistent pace every week as I progressively add .5 miles. So TBD is my answer!!!
 
ATTQOTD: I don't really always have a specific pace I'm shooting for. Last training season my race pace ended up being around 30 seconds faster than typical training pace.
 
ATTQOTD: It depends! For Full training, most of the time it will be in the 30-45 second range, but we do some miles (up to half the long run) at marathon pace, especially when we get closer to the race. If I am training for a half, the runs will be 45-90 slower than goal pace, and trust speed/tempo work for race day performance.
 
Well, right now my pace is all over the place as I feel like I'm relearning how to run after injury & still with lingering injuries. I may run with something giving me my pace or I may not, If I feel good I'll run harder. I would say training long days when I'm healthy are typically 60-90 seconds slower (I always start out slow on training days to warm up so the first miles are slower than the end ones) than race pace because in a race I have people to catch which drives me to go faster.

It's hard to say because I've only actually run two longs at my race pace (the rest I walked with friends) but each time I've done 60-120 seconds better in races.
 
I would never tell another person to make a change to what is working (experiment of one rule), but a coach had me change this when I started training for my first marathon. I do a lot of speed work of various types, but my coach told me that running at or very near race pace during all of my longer runs was hurting me. Back then, every run was at least a tempo run. He told me that I would race faster if I did my long runs slower. Had something to do with training vs over-training. He had some scientific rationale, though that was 15 years ago and the details are long forgotten.

Since then I have tried both ways (can't help myself sometimes :upsidedow), and my fastest race times in marathons have all come when I followed this coach's advice. Now, at the time that meant running about 40 seconds/mile slower, so nothing dramatic, but it seemed to help me.

My speed work is where I push myself until I puke. That is what really seems to allow me to improve my VO2.

I'm learning about V02! No vomiting yet...but I do like learning the connection between effort and pace.

ATTQOTD: I believe my race pace is about 60 seconds faster than my long run. I do slower runs and faster runs according to my plan. I did my first tempo yesterday. Very proud of myself, as it was HARD.
 
ATTQOTD: Depending on how I'm feeling, my long runs are generally 30-60 seconds slower per mile.

I went to a running clinic last week where the presenter talked a lot about research showing you gain more from doing some long runs very slow compared to goal/race pace. This guy runs 6ish minute miles for race pace, but sometimes does runs as slow as 11 minutes a mile (slow for him, not judging others paces:)) He has coached many people to BQs. He periodizes training plans and in the early stages he has some people running 13-14 minute miles on easy pace days. I wish I could remember the formula, it was something related to 5k pace. It was basically meant to make the endurance part super easy so it wouldn't interfere with whatever the focus was for that period.
 
For me personally, I have flourished using a plan where about 80% of my training miles are done at +40 seconds slower than goal marathon pace (Hansons). With about 8 weeks to go until my marathon I have just switched to where the other 20% is at or just under goal marathon pace.

On a weekly time basis:
15% at Marathon Tempo (MT)
5% at MT - 10 seconds (Prior to this week this was MT - 56 seconds)
12.5% at MT + 140 seconds
25% at MT + 100 seconds
15% at MT + 60 seconds
22.5% at MT + 40 seconds

Ah Yes. I know this person. You just described me and my inability to follow directions.

I'm nowhere near an elite runner but every one of my runs seems to be at race pace or faster.
I get impatient. I know better.

I keep getting hurt. I know better.

I need to slow down, but I don't. I know better.

Really hoping to "force" myself to follow the advice from your coach and many others and stop overdoing it.
My body keeps reminding me that it just doesn't work when overloaded.
