The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: What are your top 5 Bucket List races in order of importance? They can be any distance for any reason.

1. Rome Marathon
2. Boston but only if I qualify
3. St. Anthony's Triathlon. Really any tri further than a sprint but I love St. Pete and this looks like such a great event.
4. Gorge Waterfall 50K. I never really had any desire to go further than 26.2 but this race looks absolutely beautiful and I'd run it with some friends to enjoy the views without worrying about my time. I dare anyone to watch either of the Ginger Runner's videos (2014 or 2015) of the race and not be at least a little tempted.
5. Any Ragnar relay

Bucket List Races:

1) Boston by BQ
2) London Marathon
3) World Marathon Challenge (7 marathons, 7 days, 7 continents)
4) Every World Marathon Major (cheating I know - Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and NYC)
5) Eugene Marathon

@CheapRunnerMike I just watched the Barkely Marathon doc on Netflix this weekend too. Big kudos to them. I said to my wife, what do you think? She said no. No, no, no, no, no.... LOL! So we'll see maybe someday I'll try and make his list (doubtful). I can't imagine though doing that course in the dark. But the whole time I was watching I was thinking to myself of all the little things I would do to counter the problems they were having. Probably just my naivety.

Even though I’ve never done an Ultra, Western and Leadville totally intrigue me. Eventually I plan on doing a local 50K and see if I can work up from there.

1. Walt Disney World Marathon (not sure if it’s considered “bucket” if I’ve already done it, but if I had to pick one it would be Disney).
2. Western States 100
3. Leadville 100
4. Boston
5. New York City

3. Run a Marathon with my wife-This is purely theoretical as it requires finding a woman who will, at minimum, tolerate me and convincing her that getting married isn't a bad idea. The Marathon would be the easy part.

Make sure when woooo-ing your future potential marathon partner to throw in that you are willing to go on lots of Disney related vacations. Maybe at Dopey this year put something on the back of your shirt like "Want to run around Disney with me for a lifetime? and then leave your number" That won't be weird at all right??? Ok, maybe, don't do that.

That looks really cool @gjramsey ...looks like it is put on by the same people that run the Norseman Triathlon http://nxtri.com/ which could very well be #6 on my list. I had also considered the Barkley after watching the documentary, but that's just nuts :scared:

I would have considered you nuts if you put Barkley on your list, lol. Just kidding but yeah that race takes a bit of crazy to even sign up for.

The Race Director for Alaska did Norseman last year and I think looking to do Celtman in the next couple years. He is the owner/co-owner of several different event series in the Houston area and all have a really good reputation. (5k series, Half series and tri series.)

I've already run a few off my original list, so here what it looks like now:

1. Boston (only if I am able to qualify)
2. Medoc
3. Antarctica and Punta Arenas (to count for Antarctica and South America)
4. Sydney, Gold Coast, or IM Australia (to count for Australia)
5. Rocky Raccoon 100

Man that looks like a brutal race...it would probably kill me.

I think my Bucket list is growing as the answers keep coming in....

Flying Pig is one I forgot about that is high on my list.
This is a great topic...seeing a few cool looking races that I've never heard of before.

Along the lines of what @PrincessV said earlier about a "fantasy" list...I think I'm too old to add the Olympic Marathon to my bucket list :P

So, does anyone experience panic attacks or little bouts of paranoia when they run?

Surely, I can't be the only one that feels this way from time-to-time, right?

Not that I can think of but I constantly worried about my wife when she used to run more frequently.

Lots of country roads where we live without a lot of traffic. She used to run with our dog on a stretch of isolated road until she had 2 incidents the same month with strangers circling and following her, stopping and trying to talk to her, getting out and offering to give her a ride, etc. She had mace, her phone, and our big yellow lab but most likely he would just jump on the persona and start licking them.

Now my biggest worry is about getting hit by someone who is so busy looking at their phone they aren't looking at the road.
I've had several close calls recently--no pun intended.

I've been lucky enough to have run several bucket list races (Dopey, MCM, etc)..

1>Athens Marathon (the original course)
2>Boston w/ BQ
3>Chicago Marathon
4>Big Sur
5>New York Marathon

Paris, Comrades, Rock n' Roll Vegas, Flying Pig, and Toronto are on the list too.
I need a bigger bucket!!!

Bucket List

1. MCM - signed up for October
2. Dopey Challenge - Hoping for 2018
3. Kessel Run Challenge - I'm a SW nerd:)
4. A Marathon in Europe, but not sure which one yet.
5. Dumbo Double Dare

+1 I want to do every Disney race eventually. So far I only have done all the PHM weekend races, the Avengers weekend races and the Castaway Cay 5k.

Hi! I am usually just a lurker here on thread, but just saw this and wanted to say that this is my local triathlon! (Not that I would ever take part in it, but I have friends who are starting this year.) I am impressed to see it come up here on the DIS, I had no idea that it is so internationally known!

Roth is known as one of the best in the world. No one I know who has done it has ever said anything bad about it.

Great to hear! I am hoping to go and see my friend this year, it is first triathlon over the long distance. It sounds like even watching it is quite an event and it will be fun to see all the madness in that tiny town!

ATTQOTD: This is a fun question.

1 - NYC marathon
2 - a 50 miler but I'll just put Comrades(56 miles) because it would be pretty cool
3 - Great Wall of China marathon
4 - Easter Island marathon
5 - Athens marathon

There are things on my list I'm more likely to do but these are some pie in the sky ones.
