I recently read about the 'Rule of 4' on another thread (I copied the post into a folder for my future info and this is what it said:

The rule of 4 has two parts:

You can't bank points from your current use year in to next use year in the last 4 months of your current use year. So, if you have a Dec use year, the latest date that you can bank points is Jul 31.

The other part of that is that you can't book AND travel for resorts outside of the DVC collection within the last 4 months of your use year. You can book travel for NEXT use year in the last 4 months of your current use year. You can also travel during the last 4 months of your current use year, so long as you book it before the last 4 months. )

Can I just clarify that in the last 4 months of the UY, you can still take a vacation using both banked and/or borrowed points if you are staying at a WDW DVC?? (I know this doesn't say you can't, but as I am likely to be doing this -I wanted to check banked and borrowed points can still be used in last 4 months!!

Thanks alot!!:thumbsup2

You can stay at any DVC resort (pending availability) any month of the year using any combination of banked, current or borrowed points.

You can not initiate a banking transaction in the last 4 months of your use year.

Actually, the rule of 4 doesn't have two parts. Here is the rule of 4 directly from the member's website.

What is the Rule of Four?
You cannot book and travel on The Disney Collection (excluding Disneyland® Resort Hotels in California), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.

DVC resorts are NOT part of the Disney Collection, so the rule of 4 does not apply to them. You have it backwards in your original statement.

Thanks - My post was just copied word for word from what someone had put on another thread, as I had never heard of it until then!!! I'm very new to the DVC business, so thanks for the clarification!:)

Don't confuse The Rule of Four with banking.

But yes you are correct that you may not bank points during the last 4 mos of your Use Year.

DVC resorts do not fall under The Rule of Four so you may use your points to BOTH book & travel during the last 4 months of your Use Year at a DVC resort.

I think that the term 'DVC Collection' is what fooled me. That isn't a commonly-used term. Disney Collection is a well-defined term, defined by DVC. And the Disney Collection does not include any of the DVC resorts. It is definitely confusing.

This is part of this threat because I believe it pertains to the Rule of 4. We are looking to use our points to transfer into RCI right now, but our use year just entered into our final 4 months on May 31. Am I correct in that I can ONLY use the points for stays at DVC resorts + Disneyland California from this point on?
Is DVC flexible at all considering that my use year just entered my final 4 months literally 6 days ago? I was originally attempting to book a cruise but they just told me that I cant do that any longer. Any help would be appreciated!

You might want to post your question re RCI as a new thread so you can get more replies. There are many here who are well acquainted with depositing DVC points to RCI who can advise you. iirc, RCI is part of World Passport Collection (I don't think that falls under Rule of Four so you may be able to use your points to book a future trip via RCI) RCI has weekly and daily options that may be available for exchange ( depending upon availability when you wish to travel & also what you can pick from would depend upon number of points you will be depositing with RCI ). There's also $95 exchange fee you'd need to pay.

I can't say for certain because I've never traded points out to RCI ( or to II when DVC dealt with them ) but it may be possible that you can still do so even though you are in last 4 months of your Use Year. Give MS a call to discuss what your options may or may not be too.

Yes you may try to book & stay at DVC resorts during last 4 months of your UY and also Disneyland resorts subject to availability.

Good luck :goodvibes
