One of the teacher's at DS high school survived a ruptured aortic aneurysm! He happened to be talking to a police officer at a location near the airport where there are ambulances and first responders. He turned to his friend, the police officer, said, "I don't feel so good" and collapsed. They got him to the hospital ASAP. A cardiac surgeon happened to be at the hospital when he arrived. He is recovering and doing well.

wow. Thats Luck if I've ever heard of it. Glad hes doing ok.

That's the condition that killed John Ritter, the tv actor. If he had been home alone, he wouldn't have been able to call for help. Even if he wasn't alone, precious minutes would have been lost waiting for an ambulance.

I knew John Ritter had heart complications, but I didn't realize it was an aneurysm. I thought he just had a bad heart.

I'm certainly glad the teacher got the medical attention he needed as fast as he did. Can you say, count your blessings? He surely had someone watching out for him!

That is what you call being at the right place at the right time. I am glad you friend is doing well and feels better soon

That's an amazing story!!!

I'll keep him in my prayers for his continued recovery.

WOW! Incredible luck is right!! That is almost unheard of to survive.
He must be thanking his lucky stars and angels right now.

That is a wonderful story.

That is so weird. The same thing happened two years ago to the dad of a friend of my 2 DDs. He was getting on a plane at TF Green in RI and there was a police officer at the gate who asked him if he was ok. The police officer wouldn't let him board the plane. He was a horrible color. He collapsed before the airport EMTs arrived but they had already called for the rescue. There was a cardiac surgeon at the hospital when he arrived too. They told him afterwards that the police officer saved his life. Amazing.

Now that's what I call timing. Aneurysms scare the heck out of me because anyone could have one at any time.

My neighbor barely survived his ruptured aortic aneurysm, and it happened at home. He's a tough old bird and still mows his lawn several times a week. Maybe the hospitals are becoming more efficient at treating these.

My dad had one of those in 1997. He was at home when it developed a small leak but while in the ER it completely burst, dumping all his blood into his abdominal cavity. He was only the 2nd person in this area to have survived it.

Prayers for your friends recovery.

There are a couple of types of aortic aneurysms. There is the dissecting type that lets blood seep between the layers and can ultimately burst but often one has symptoms first. The typical aneurysm is the one that looks like a big bubble on the aorta. They can develop a slow leak or they can burst. One can burst in a hospital and still not be survivable. Of course its better to be in a very good hospital but you could be in the best hospital in the world with these things and still die.

I am so glad you still have your dad! Another VERY lucky man! This guy is my DS's gym teacher. It actually made the paper.

Wow! Very lucky indeed. Here's hoping that his recovery is quick.

I am glad he survived. My sister also had one and did not survive. Hers was caused by Marfans syndrome and we did not even know she was ever sick. I am glad he beat the odds.

I think my neighbor's was like live4christ's dad. They say it was a miracle he survived.

I think of some of the people who died when I was young that might have been treated today. My aunt died of a cerebral aneurysm when she was in her thirties, but she had symptoms for days beforehand. I'm pretty sure it would have been diagnosed before rupturing today, but back in 1980, they thought it was the flu.

I am sorry about the loss of your sister. My SIL's sil has Marfans.

I'll have to look Marfan's up, that might be what my dad has. He was in the hospital last year following a heart attack and pace maker placement. The doctors said that he has many weak spots in the vessels that could balloon at any time. Think they told him that it could be a result of many years of uncontrolled high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, and sometimes even hereditary.
