Tues. was breakfast and luch at The Mara, AK's quick service. What can I say? The food was reasonablely priced, service was generally good. My wife and I each had fish and chips and it was better than I expected. I do wish it opened before 7 AM, but you can't have everything. Nice desserts from the Boma buffet.
Dropped the son off at Simba's clubhouse and went to the Flying Fish for dinner. I had calamari, halibut, and the chocolate selection. The missus had the peeky toe crab, snapper, and the souffle. Our server, Jay, was very pleasent and efficient. The calamari was cooked perfectly, very tender, and the dipping sauce added a nice bite. My wife enjoyed the crab cake as well. Sicne she ordered the snapper I ordered the halibut. We both preferred the halibut, but that may just be us. I thought overall it had a better flavor. The DW didn't care for the potato crust. Desserts were the highlight. My wife had the chocolate souflee with sabayon and she loved it. My chocolate sampler had a mousse pyramid, a phyllo purse filled with warm chocolate in a rasperry coulis, and a chocolate lemongrass tea. The tea was ok, the mousse excellent, and the phyllo purse to die for.
Leaning Palms at Typhoon Lagoon. Another day, another counter service. Best thing here was that when we ordered ice creams for dessert with the dining plan they give you a token so you can retrieve your dessert when ready. Sevice was fine, seating during prime lunch times seemed tight.
Whispering Canyon Cafe was the highlight of the trip. Of course, WCC is only good if you know what to expect and will play along. The boss had the chicken, which she preferred over the Flying Fish snapper (her tastes run very mainstream) and the Happiest Celebration S'mores cake, which we both loved. I had nacho, a steak, and the apple pie. The true boss, our son, had chicken strips and said he had no room for dessert. Our server was "Lazy Susan", and she was great. We had the usual ketchup antics, a few thrown straws, the "I promise to never go to Universal pledge" and more. We had a lot of fun.
Coming up, I finally make it to Artist Point...
