The refillable mug debate continues

with this observation. I was snooping around Ebay and saw that people are selling their refillable mugs (and for good money too), for almost as much as they cost in the resorts plus shipping. See example here..http://cgi.ebay.com/4-DISNEY-REFILL...ryZ13843QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem . Obviously some sneakydoodles are trying to get these mugs to take them with on vacation. Isn't disney losing twice as much $$ this way? And what if the people who bought them on ebay go to Disney..use them, and resell them when THEY get home? I think this could present a big problem. I'm not saying if it's wrong or right, what's your opinion?

I think it's unfair to say that the people who bid on these mugs plan to re-use them when going to WDW. Maybe they are bidding on them because they like to collect each Resorts mug which a lot of people on these boards have said like to collect them. I am guessing that this way is a lot faster because who knows when they might be going back to WDW to add to their collection. So don't assume these people plan to re-use them, because you don't know that.

Yes, maybe the people that buy them are just collectors and have no intention of using them, but the people that are selling them (at least in this case), are selling them for people to reuse, as it states in the ad that they are refillable at Pop Century. I personally think it's bad that these people try to resell them and advertise that they can be used for refills.

It maybe wrong for these people to re-sell them that's if the winning bidder does use the Pop Century mugs, however no one can stop the seller from selling them. It's a free country so he can do whatever he wants & there are no signs when purchasing mugs that say, do not sell on Ebay.

I was just browsing this thread & thinking how disgusting it was to buy someone's used mug.....then I realized that I'm using used mugs/glasses everytime I go to a nice restaurant. And this just reminds me that you can find anything on ebay!!!

Thats very true. Its sort of like people who park in the CR parking lot, eat at Chef Mickey's, then go to the MK all day. Its a free country in that scenario too. I think unfortunately people will always find creative ways to make a buck and then justify it later on.

I also agree that some people may just want them as part of a collection.

My opinion is...the can of worms is opened once again. ;)

My Dad always says of second hand stuff(including undies) "You know if it doesn't really come clean when you wash it we're all in trouble anyway." :rotfl:
True, but I'll still pass.

I can't understand why some people on these boards get so upset over the refillable mugs question. If someone wants to buy a mug off Ebay and then use it at Disney, who cares. Do you really think Disney will go bankrupt from these kind of transactions? Using the same logic I wonder if these same people who are holier than thou take the dining plan to save some dollars or do they insist on paying full price. Would they refuse to take an upgrade at a Disney hotel if offered, or insist that that they want to pay for the upgrade? I don't think so. Have they ever bought park admission tickets at a discount, or do they always pay full price because they want Disney to maximize revenue. If people would stop worrying about what is right for Disney and worry more about what is better for themselves we would all be better off.

Why in the world would anyone buy a used mug for the same amount of $$ or more when you can purchase your own brand new on for the same amount or less yourself? I don't get it? I mean, I understand the people trying to sell them, but why would anyone buy them on Ebay? And used? Ewww.

Yes, maybe, but clearly the seller must think that ebayers are interested in his item to use at the resort, as it is clearly typed on his auction page that the mugs can be used at pop century. My thought is that a re-using mugs once or twice won't make an impact on Disney's profits, but it could become a problem if it happens more and more.

Lots of people collect lots of stuff. If someone buys a refillable mug to use on EBAy so what. How much do you WDW's cost for soda is anyway, you can get it for free anyway in Club Cool all day long...and you don't have to bring a mug :rotfl2:

I highly doubt the "soda" situation at the resorts will ever become an issue at WDW. As far as profits go, it is not a biggie. The price of a bottle of water in the parks more than makes up for it :lmao:

Disney pays minimum wage, refuses to let new hires work a full week so that they can save on benefits, and you are worried about the possible long term effects on their profits with people using mugs that they bought on Ebay?

I would never buy a used mug off ebay (refillable or not!) but know that the problem will not go away until Disney starts cracking down on the "repeat offenders". Due to the fact that the CM's look the other way, it's obviously not an issue they want to address at this time. Perhaps in the future they will issue a removable sticker that goes on the mug which indicates the dates of the stay...when your trip is over, you just peel off the sticker and throw it away. It would be nice if on future visits you could still bring your same mug and get some type of discount on purchasing a new sticker.

It's the people that think that it's ok to "work" the system that will eventually cause Disney to take their benefits away from everyone. :sad2:

Do they still do that at the water parks? I remember doing that at BB a few years ago. It seems that it's a reasonable solution...
