I need some help by way of opionions here...I'm sure they'll run the gamut from good to bad!

We've got our ADRs made for our Sept. trip. Among those are a lunch at the Sci-Fi. Mostly, I have 3 young boys who will think it's the coolest place to eat they've ever seen! However, I am starting to get scared off by the reviews (found elsewhere, not here on the DIS). UG suggests going there just for dessert, which I suppose we could do at some point, but I was looking for a TS place for a whole meal (free dining!).

Now, I'm not a fine food expert nor am I a food snob. I like good simple fare and I'm not going to notice whether or not my meat was walking around that morning or has been in cold storage for months!! (well, with the possible exception of a good steak, but I'm not going to Sci-Fi for steak).

So, if I go without high expectations and just want a decent, palatable meal for my family in a fun atmosphere, will we do ok here? Your answers will make or break whether I keep this ADR or try something else! (not too much pressure! :teeth: )

TIA!

Some bad reviews but DW and I tried it and thought it was great.Food was good,we had burgers and shakes that were very tasty. The themeing is awesome so I say go and have some great food and fun. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes :wave2:

IMO ... the answer to your question is YES! You're dining there for lunch. Good choice. Your kids will think it's cool and I'm sure you will too. Huge plus!
The food is not terrible. It's not great, but it's not awful and definitely palatable. The milkshakes are fantastic! Just my two cents.

We are having a late lunch at Sci-Fi. I, too, have been a little worried about food quality. However, for burgers, sandwiches, and shakes, I don't think it could be that bad. My older DD has been wanting to try it, and we'll have my dad with us, so I figured why not??

GO!

Your boys will absolutely love it! There is at least a decent burger on the menu. And me, the picky eater, finds something. Even a vegetarian was fine with this choice (for dinner). The last time we were here, I was about rolling out of the car laughing at the movie trailers.

Very good choice. You are there more for the atmosphere than anything else but the food is fine.

DH and I have been twice in the last year to take our 3 kids. They love the atmosphere and the food is ok. The burgers are good; not knock you out and gotta have it again tommorrow good, but good. I agree the milkshakes are great. With free dining and 3 kids I would at least try it.
Also think about it, you will always hear the bad before the good. How many people have ever heard that they had the best experience getting a root canal?. :teeth:

I say give it a try. My Dh and I went there and loved their shakes. We also ended up sharing onion rings and a burger. (Lots of food) and it was pretty good. Plus the atmosphere is awesome.

We had lunch there in August. Burgers and onion rings were very good. I wouldn't have dessert there, as I thought both desserts that DH & I ordered were both poor quality.

We've eaten there twice. You really need to stick with the burgers, onion rings, and shakes. The last time I was there, I didn't want anything too heavy and I ordered the chicken salad. It was a garden salad with burnt (not even exaggerating) slices of chicken on it. My dd had a burger that smelled wonderful! Of course, it was the first time in her life she ate her whole meal so I didn't even get a bite of it. :(

Oh, and I think the dinner menu doesn't have burgers listed, but just ask for it anyway.

Your children are going to love the atmosphere at Sci-Fi!!

My husband and I both had the flat iron steak sandwich. We are not food experts either, but we have had poor cuts of steak, and some steaks not cooked very well. That being said...Our steak sandwich was great. It was cooked well, but not burned. Tender and juicy. We really like it. The girls had the regular kids stuff, chicken strips

We didn't go for the food, but for the experience, and we got both. :thumbsup2

Go - kids love it and I thought it was cool.

I couldn't see my food - it was so dark in there. And the layout was such where we sat that my two boys sat in front of me with their backs to me, while I was in the back seat with DD. Weird.

STILL worth a trip!!! Enjoy!!!

We go and like it. But we do tend to stick with sandwiches so maybe that is why.

Its a lot of fun. And honestly you never know until you try.

DD9 and I enjoy Sci Fi for lunch. She loves eating in the cars, and the cheesy old movie clips. It is dark, so if you plan on reading something, bring a flashlight.

Another positive experience at SciFi. We had a 12 noon lunch ADR and were seated promptly. The atmosphere was great and nothing to complain about food. We tried everything from burger to pasta, and couldn't find anything wrong with the food. I was apprehensive about going based on reviews, but went anyway because DH is a SciFi nut. We already have our lunch ADRs ready for August. Enjoy!!!

we always go to Sci/Fi for lunch and have always had a positive experience. We too stuck with the burgers, fries, etc.

We went in 2001 and my boys loved it then (they were 4 & 5) they want to go back again next year. I remember the shakes being really good. I can't remember what I ate though. :confused3

this is a great restaurant for kids to enjoy. You get to sit in a booth that looks like a 50's style car. Some cars have a front and back seat, and some cars have a third seat way in the back. The cars are set up like you are at a drive in money. Of course it is quite dark, as drivin movies are only open at night, so be prepared for that experience.

Sci-Fi is one of my favourite restaurants. All of the sandwiches are great: especailly the hamburger and the Reuben. Fries are pretty good, but the onion rings are fantastic.

The Sci-Fi sundae is very good, and so are the milkshakes.

Have a
wonderful time :cool1: :yay: :bounce: :yay:  :thumbsup2

It was fine for us. It was one of the places DH has requested to go back to.

I can't remember what we got but I think it was just the burgers. I know if there was Mac & Cheese on the menu - that is what my 5 year old got (I'm pretty sure there was because I seem to recall telling my DD to make sure it wasn't too hot for him! LOL!) She was up front with him and I was in the *way* back with the baby in the high chair.

We like plain food, nothing too fancy, so it worked for us.

We ate there last summer.

I had the ceasar salad, not bad, my DH had the hamburger and loved it, and my DS had the chicken nuggets and also liked them.

For me the chocolate shake was the best.

Its a fun experinece and my DS wants to go back next month, so we have ADRs for lunch.

Try it, it is a fun experience.
