Sunday, August 24

Well, so much for getting to bed at a decent hour. At midnight I was still waiting for my DD to get her stuff packed so I could load the car. I reminded yet again, that she'd need ID for the plane ... a few minutes later she tells me she can't find her driver's license ... YIKES!!!

We search the house, her car, she calls her girlfriend (who's house she was at earlier) at 1 a.m. and asks her to look around her house ... no luck the license is gone. I dig thru my files and find a certified copy of her birth certificate ... hopefully the airlines will accept it.

We go to bed at 2 a.m. ... I lie awake watching the clock until the
alarm goes off at 4:30 a.m. I wake the kids up, they get dressed and eat breakfast ... we are in the car and headed for the airport by 5 a.m.

We arrive at the airport, park in the long-term parking lot, haul our stuff to the shuttle stop just as a bus arrives. It's a quick ride to the terminal and then we're in line to check-in. Thankfully the birth certificate, together with DD's high school ID (she graduated in 1994) is enough to get her on the plane.

We move quickly through the security station and the TSA agents don't hassle me too much about my requests to have DD's film hand inspected, however DD's camera had to go thru the scanner ... the agent does state the scanner won't hurt the film and I reply (nicely) that according to Kodax's website film is effected by the scanner and I don't want to take any chances.

We now have nearly two hours before our flight leaves. The grandkids play their GameBoys and color. When they start boarding our flight DD and DGD start getting nervous, but they are both troupers and board the plane without any hysterics.

We are flying on a 737 and they have put me, DD and DGS on one side of the plane and DGD across the aisle. Once the plane takes off the man sharing the row of seats with DGD moves up a row and DGD and I take over the row.

The flight to FL was very smooth and we arrive 20 minutes earlier than scheduled ... as we taxi up to the terminal DGD wants to fly back to DC ... turns out she loves flying!

We retrieved our bags, got our rental car and were headed to Disney in no time. Our first stop was Downtown Disney ... I wanted to take some photos, do some shopping and get a bit to eat before heading to FW.

We had a great time stuffing Mr. Potato Head parts in a box for DGD ... it's amazing how many pieces you can get in one of those boxes if you spend a bit of time stuffing it just so. We ate lunch at McDonald's and DD was upset they didn't have the chicken sandwich she gets in VA, so she opted for a hotdog from a sidewalk vender. I had a bit of a run-in with a paper cup of ketchup ... someone bumped me and I ended up with ketchup all over my tee shirt ... yuck!

After we ate, we headed to FW checked in ... YAY! They'd rec'd my fax and had assigned us the same cabin as we'd stayed in last summer. Then we went and picked up our golf cart from the Bike Barn. We were given one of the new green & almond carts ... but I wasn't happy with having to sign a blank credit card voucher to be used in the event the cart was damaged while in my care. Later a CM told me that $100,000.00 worth of damage had been done to the carts since 1976 and the decision to make the renter pay for damages was a) to reduce Disney's costs and b) to make people drive safer. One night I saw a group of teens in three carts ... they were goofing off and one girl nearly hit another cart with her cart ... made me think they ought to raise the age to 18 to use the carts.

Once we had unloaded the car and settled in, I took the kids to MGM. It started raining shortly after we arrived ... we ate dinner at Pizza Planet then played some video games, before dashing across the street to see the Muppets. We hadn't seen this before and it was a lot of fun. DGD kept swinging her hands around trying to catch things. When the show was over the rain had slowed down to a drizzle ... we headed to Star Tours.

As we were entering the ship I realized that this ride would probably make me motion sick ... uh oh. Luckily I survived the ride — the kids loved it. It had been a long day and we still needed to go to Wal*Mart to buy milk, bread, cereal and sandwich makings. On our way there the rain began to downpour ... and traffic slowed to a crawl. We finally pulled into the parking lot and ran to the entrance. We hadn't been in the store 2 minutes when the lights went out. After 15 minutes or so the lights came back on ... I made a mad dash thru the store picking up the necessities ... all three of us were minutes from melting down.

When we arrived home, Vicky had a surprise to show us ... a b'day card wishing Cissy a Happy 6th Birthday and two Mickey Mouse ballons had been delivered to the cabin while we were gone. Whoops ... when I faxed my cabin request I mentioned that my daughter would be
celebrating her 28th b'day on Friday the 29th ... oh well, Cissy loved the card and balloons and Vicky was happy that I'd thought of her.

Time to hit the sack ... tomorrow morning we are going on the Family Magic Tour.

Great report. Doesn't sound like too bad of a day at all. Can't wait to read more to find out if you find the Princesses.

Wonderful report ~ Thanx for sharing!!!!
