We can argue that the death penalty doesn't deter crime, but it sure stops the same people from doing it again!
Exactly!

People like this are not rehabilitated. I say flip the switch but they probably get lethal injection.

I intend to.
I would have no problem being the one to flip the switch. Actually, in my crankier moments I think they should be tied to a bed, raped by a couple of guys and then have the house set on fire.
But I'm trying to get beyond my really bad self and just go with "get rid of them bcause they do not deserve to walk among people who are trying to be decent", which I think the majority of people do try to do.
He also did not want to be convicted of raping the 11 year old daughter either. They both know they will never leave prison alive. In fact, Hayes attempted suicide earlier this year but survived. He may have survived with some brain damage. He had supposedly had a seizure a few weeks ago and his trial was delayed a day or two.
Now lets hope they go for the death penalty. Of course the way it is he'll live off the taxpayers for a long time.
But it is a start at least.

I watched the interview they did with Dr. Petit immediately following the verdict. That man amazes me with how well he has held up under this. My heart just breaks for him.

Oh I think he will get the death penalty all right, but remember, this is Ct. I am afraid that he will die a very old man unless he gets so tired of living on death row that he BEGS to die, and even then, it will be an uphill battle.
As Dr. Petit just said, "I still don't have my family".

) -- they should lock them in solitary for the rest of their lives, giving them just enough food and water to survive and let them sit with themselves 24 hours a day. If they won't pull the trigger (so to speak) this sounds good to me -- no contact with the outside world for the rest of your life.I saw an interview this morning on Channel 5 in NY and the person they were interviewing said he hoped they got life but weren't put to death. He said they should get the same treatment as the Times Square bomber (who, BTW was also convicted today) -- they should lock them in solitary for the rest of their lives, giving them just enough food and water to survive and let them sit with themselves 24 hours a day. If they won't pull the trigger (so to speak) this sounds good to me -- no contact with the outside world for the rest of your life.
