The Pope has Parkinsons Disease

I am not Catholic, but can he not step down if his health prevent him from doing what is needed?

Today at church they said that today is his 83rd birthday. Gee...I thought he was more like my grandmother's age! She's 92.

Actually, a pope can indeed resign (abdicate) although as long as his mind is in working order, there would be no reason for him to do so.

The Parkinson's is old news. Even though the Vatican only admitted it a few months ago, the media has known for a few years at least. As far as his health deteriorating to a point where he can't work anymore, there are ppl behind the scenes in the Vatican office who would probably take over the actual work until he died. He could resign, but I really don't see him doing this. I think he'll be as active as he can be as long as his mind is still in working order. I do hope that when it is his time to go that it will be quick.

I read that when it comes to choosing a new Pope, there's a lot you have to go through. Votes, paper tossed into a fire, white smoke means a new Pope's been elected, black smoke means no decision has been made...

I have a book all about this kind of stuff, but I can't lay a finger on it at the moment (being typed at 2:05 AM, don't want to wake Mom or my brother)

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff
