Will Poly2 Be a Part of the Original Polynesian Condo Association?

Well, I’ve read that they’ve used the ability to book AKV value studios when trying to sell points at other resorts, so I’m not sure that they wouldn’t use the bungalows as a marketing tool even if it is a new association! Besides, I’m pretty sure the bungalows are available at 7 months most of the time.
That would be sorry as **** for a guide to mislead guest about the ability to book those value rooms at AKVs. No moral compass what so ever.

I suspect Disney may opt to add MK buses from Polynesian. We have seen MK buses at Polynesian bus stop, but it has been a few years.

Although, I recall one year it rained so hard the water overflowed the water bridge by the Contemporary and flooded the road under the water bridge. They had to reroute the buses to some other route.

Problem is the monorail is passed it's prime and inefficient but at the same time you can't get rid of it because we all love it and the nostalgia factor is basically at 100/100. Adding another line isn't really feasible unless you redid the whole system. I always thought they should have a train for every stop that moves in tandem. So one train is always at MK one at Contemporary one at TTC etc etc. They all load at the same time and leave at the same time and arrive at the same time at the next station. Even if there is a delay loading and unloading at one station at least there will always be a train there for you to get on right away. Who doesn't love the musty smell of the inside late on a hot rainy summer night.
I hate the monorail because it’s smelly and inefficient. My nostalgia for it died waiting in a lengthy track hold at Poly and the Grand Flo as the precious minutes of my extra magic hours died.

It could be as simple as “you can stay at this time of year for as little as 9pts per night!” But yeah, no regard for availability…

I do believe that Disney will need to address the monorail issue from Poly and GF. It may be something as simple as leaving a few cars open during busy times. But, the new tower is going to add a lot of people to the monorail. Even the return trip to Poly will have a lot more people on it. The monorail is way overdue for an upgrade, the track itself is over 50 years old and I think the trail cars are close to 30 years old.
OH maybe it will be a new association and the dues will be insane to pay for some monorail enhancements :rotfl2:

My monorail "love" has decreased over the years. A big memory is rolling back into the MK station while staying at GF, evacuating, taking the ferry with a bunch of unhappy people to TTC, and boarding a bus to Epcot... in the rain :crazy2:

The "love" completely died when the walking path was announced at GF. I can still look at the monorail and appreciate the new lights carried over from the 50h celebration.

Ohhhh. Do you think there is a possibility that by not using the design that tied it into the old bungalows and picking an entirely new design that they tipped their hand about the association decision? New design = new association????

I've stated my opinion before about it being a new association but in reality nothing really matters except the price they sell it at vis-a-vis the recent VGF promotions. If they made it part of PVB but priced it too high they'll have just as hard of a time selling it had it been a new association with the same price. I think the ultimate win for Disney would be to continue the restrictions (which I would hate), make it a new association with reciprocal property sharing rights, and price it extremely aggressively. Perhaps they don't start off aggressive because they know there will be people who jump on it no matter the price...kind of like someone with a 2 year old iphone waiting on line the night before for the new one just because. So they'll collect as much as they can until sales slow to a trickle then hit the public with major incentives and/or price drops. An alternate strategy might be to keep a higher price point but lower the blue card threshold to 100 or 125 to lure in the direct hold outs.

We're going to rehash this same topic for the next 6-8 months. We can always go back to talking about Murphy bed mattresses I guess?

This is actually what I expect/hope will happen with VDH, especially if the economic turns south. I don’t like it as much as the grand Cal but at $160/pt, I probably can’t resist.

As I have noted many times, the “original “ plans for the Poly tower are much worse than what we have now - and Walt was a part of that design.

While I don’t love the final design as much as the design that would have matched the longhouses, I actively dislike the original tower design

Parks Blog actually touted this specific artwork as inspiration for the tower, but that original tower design was killed off pretty quickly.

Walt died in 1966. He didn't help design the Polynesian Resort, but he did pick the general location of the two resorts.

WED and Welton Becket & Associates designed both properties (along with the Asian, Persian and Venetian Resorts that were never built and other notable buildings including the Capital Records Building in LA).

I don't think they care about selling out the resort. This is going to be last Seven Seas Lagoon project for awhile. So why price it aggressively?

There's lots more to come including concept artwork for the interior and all these new amenity announcements I keep getting told are coming—the five star restaurant, the amazing infinity pool, new quick service dining, etc. 🤣

I suspect we will have some more leaks soon enough.

I suspect Disney may opt to add MK buses from Polynesian.

That would be such a selling point. 🙄

Mr. Monorail Bob Gurr said the new monorails were designed and had been ordered from Bombardier, but it would be a few years. Maybe once they get rid of ABC they'll make the final payment and get them delivered? 🤣

I think I learned when I was a Cast Member, and I could be wrong, planning for the park hotels began in the mid to early 1960’s. Walt was less than happy about the fact that they did not own the Disneyland hotel outright. So, hotels were one of the first things they began discussing. While he wasn’t around for construction I think he did have a say in the hotel designs. However, my time with Disney was long ago, I definitely could have forgotten.

There's a lot of revisionist history around this time with articles citing different sources with differing opinions. You also have Disney that wants you to think that Walt created everything.

So, who knows the actual truth.

Since some of you were so bored with the constant design and Murphy bed debates, here's some proposed room layouts to ponder over. 🤣

Lock-offs confirmed? Dedicated too? I think I spy a Duo!

I see one bedrooms, studios, lock-offs and dedicated 2 bedrooms, and what looks like a 3 bedroom villa. But I'm not seeing a "duo"? Or what do you mean by a 'duo' ?

When I check the original plans, I think what you're seeing as a "duo" is actually the lower floor of a 2-story Grand Villa? I see steps to a second story and a private entry way attached to them.
