Schedule for the day: DD to shop, MM and Pun'kin leave for home in afternoon, free night for me

Another day has dawned…
We all woke up sad since MM and Pun'kin leave today. We just can't believe it's over already! They packed slowly with Pun'kin in a total sense of disbelief that she was returning to reality-she made us laugh and wonder ourselves! We are then off to DD to shop. I splurge and buy both myself and DH a baseball hat, a Mickey looking like a pirate for my DH who is a big East Carolina University Pirate fan (this is a good substitution on the Jimminy that I lost before), and a Tiger twisty straw for a total of around $50.00. We continue to shop, and I give in and buy a vanilla milkshake at Ghiradelli for ~$5.00…yum! (Hey, I'm still on vacation…remember?) We weren't sure where to eat and ended up at Wolfgang Punk's Express. I had the Mushroom Tortellini which was good but not great for about $10.00 with drink. I though that it was expensive for what you got and probably won't eat there again.

After spending our money, it was time to return to ASMu for a quick swim before it was time for MM and Pun'kin to leave. In the pool we start planning our next trip!! This is the only guaranteed way of making you feel a smidgen better as you prepare to leave WDW…trust me! MM and Pun'kin leave at 3:05pm on a big Mears bus after one more ice cream treat for them…**sniffle, sniffle*

I have to say that I thought that it would be a whole lot more fun to be on my own at WDW than it actually was. This is not to say that I didn't have a good time, but it felt very strange indeed to be with a group for so many days and then to be totally alone in a place made for families!! I really felt sad and tired, but at the same time, I wanted to use my time wisely. I mean, I was still on vacation…and at Disney World no less! After going over my options, I suddenly decided to see what a massage would cost! (I had a massage last tour after everyone left at the Disney Institute and it was a nice way to end the trip!) Now that I had a plan, I felt reenergized and began to call around to the resorts to find out what the best price was. AKL, surprisingly, was not only the least expensive but also the closest to my resort which worked out perfectly.

I found it interesting to be sitting alone on the bus to AKL from AK, but it was relaxing and gave me time to reflect on our trip. They had given me directions over the telephone when I made my reservation and had told me that the fitness center was located right before the slide in the pool area. I took my time walking around the resort again and when I took a wrong turn by the pool, I could not believe my eyes! There, not ten feet away from me, was a giraffe!!! Wow!! Instantly, I could understand why people like this hotel. It was a very cool experience to think that you could be swimming, look up, and see such wonderful wild life.

My massage was wonderfully relaxing-I had Natalie and she did a good time of focusing on the areas that I needed massaged due to muscle spasms. Wow! Afterward I felt both totally relaxed and invigorated. I spent the night just by myself doing a bunch of nothing, but I did enjoy the pool area again as I caught up in my journal. I had dinner at the ASMu food court-cheeseburger and fries for ~$7.00. I finished the day watching TV and reading. My plan for tomorrow (my last day!) would be the following: if I woke up before 9am, I would go to Epcot…if not, I would check out Disney Quest. Off to a blissful sleep about 11pm.

Tip of the day: If you have the time and money, try the massage at the AKL!

Oh, the massage sounds so wonderful. I like your tips at the bottom too. Thanks for posting!

Sounds like a nice day, even though everybody left. Just a question about the massage: we're planning on doing massages next trip and were considering Disney Institute. Which did you prefer DI or AKL? Also, how different were the prices? Thanks...

About the massage...hmmm...I don't know which one I preferred-obviously, they were both wonderful. The DI massage that I had last tour was more surprisingly good than the AKL one because I had never had a massage at WDW before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never been to the DI either before I booked my massage (just walked in)-the facilities impressed me, and I really felt a feeling of calmness and relaxation as soon as I entered which made the whole experience even better. I did the 50 minute deep tissue massage and, I believe, it was around $90.00 with gratuity included. The AKL fitness center was MUCH smaller than expected since it's such a rambling resort. I didn't like the fact that there were people working out as you check in, but the massage rooms are very much "in theme" and are wonderfully darkened. I liked the fact that Natalie, the lady who did my massage, informed me concerning the different oils available (peppermint, lavender, etc.)-it made me feel as if my massage was to be whatever I wanted it to be. She also took a lot of time in the areas that I informed her and didn't stop until I said it was better...I hate when I get a massage and leave feeling like "Well, I liked what she was doing but she moved on to another area too fast!" I didn't feel l that way after this massage. It was more....hmmm....intimate in their shower facilities-smaller area with more of a candlelight feel. I paid around $120.00 for a 75 minute massage (gratuity not included). If I didn't have a money issue, I would definitely recommend a longer massage than 50 minutes. Personally, it takes me at least 30 minutes to relax and get "into" the massage. As for the place, I would go for what it most convenient to you.

Thanks for the reply about the massages. Both are equally convienient because we're not renting a car. The DI sounds like a nicer experience, though, so we'll probably book that.

Oooh, now you have me considering getting a massage! :) Do you happen to know if AKL offers any that are a bit shorter? (aka cheaper? :D)

I'm positive AKL (and other resorts) have shorter/less expensive massages, but I can't remember the prices! I'm sorry! I would definitely recommend a massage if you can swing it! ;)

I will have to put a massage on my list of things to do because it sounds great. Thanks for posting this :)
