Ummm, maybe you just don't know about the earlier one. This Pink Panther is a remake of the one that came out in the 60's. A cartoon character, the pink panther, was created and put into the opening credits. The diamond is called the Pink Panther Diamond, it is about Inspector Clouseau searching for it. So there is no CGI animated pink panther in this movie.

I was a big fan of the original. I was under the impression that they remade the opening, as in, cgi panther. I read a rumor about it somewhere, I guess I was wrong.
