Wednesday March 9 turned out to be a wet, cold day. It wasn't raining very hard, just a steady drizzle so we decided to head to AK anyway in hopes it would soon clear up. Upon arrival we all put on our ponchos and wandered through some of the discovery trails on the way to It's Tough to be a bug. Mom & dad are with us again today and they really enjoyed the other 3D show at MK. They are fascinated by the Tree of Life and as we are watching some birds, a kangaroo comes hopping out. DD was scared in ITTBAB and cried some. This one wasn't as good as I remembered it being but we enjoyed it. Next we head over toward Africa and stop and watch the drummers there perform for a few minutes. People just amaze me, there are so many people who don't have a clue of being courteous to those around them. The little pavilion was relatively empty when we went in, so mom & dad sat down to rest for a moment and I parked our stroller so DD could see but so that she wasn't in the way or blocking anyones view. I move to the back and take a spot on the wall to video some of the show. People just move in and park their strollers right in front of DD and stand right in front of mom & dad......how rude! There were still plenty of chairs available. So we move on to the safari ride, the wait wasn't to long so we decided to go stand by rather than FP. Enjoyed our safari, saw lots of animals, the elephants were enjoying the rain, they were out playing in the water, got some great shots. DS said this and the Jungle Cruise were his favorite things this trip.
After riding the safari we walk through the jungle trek and see the gorillas, they were all up close to the glass, there were some small ones and they looked so sweet. The CM there said it was very rare to see them all at the same time. The meerkats decided they would stay indoors and we didn't get to see any. Can't remember all the other animals we saw.
From here we headed over to Asia and walked through the area there, the tigers were still napping but they were up next to the wall and we got some pretty good pictures, it was still a little early. Tried to get everyone to go on the Rapids but only my dad was game and we decided to come back and do it later. Walked down toward Dinoland and saw them working on Everest, that looks like it is going to be a great coaster. Grabbed some lunch at Restarauntosaurus....and encountered more rude people (see food report).
It is still raining and everyone is wet and cold. We head over to watch the Lion King show, I didn't get to see this one last year as DD who was 1 at the time had a melt down and I had to take her out before it started. DH and brother went to ride Dinosaur while we watched this. The show was very good, although we missed the very start of it. Takes mom and dad a little longer to get from point A to point B. No Pochahantas show today because of the rain. We walk back over to watch Tarzan Rocks. This show was a disappointment to me, it was good and enjoyed the music, had just read about the stunts and stuff and it didn't seem that good to me. Terk was the highlight of the show for my DS. Don't think I would try so hard to see this show next time. Try to get DS to ride Dinosaur, he rode it last year and liked it, this year he is afraid to ride anything. We make it all the way to the briefing room and he backs out, so we wait on brother to ride. ** Anyone else ever have this happen with a child and have any advice? ** I know he would have had fun if he would have gotten on them, but he wouldn't.
Play a couple of games in the Dino-rama, park is very deserted now, ride Triceratops. Dad decided he didn't want to ride the rapids, we watch the monkeys play for a while. To wet to go into the boneyard and it is a little after four. The parade was canceled today because of the rain which was a disappointment to me, it is my favorite. We decided to head out, wandered down through some of the trails and looked for animals on the way out.
All in all, it was a pretty good day, this is probably my DS favorite park. He loves animals, give him a choice any day to go to the zoo or somewhere else, he will choose the zoo every time.
Outside the gate we got pictures with Donald & Goofy and Mickey & Minnie. Thumper was out front that morning and DS got a picture, not there in he evening though. Last year when we left there were lots of characters wandering around out front, weather was to bad today. Will be good to get back to resort and get warm, dry clothes on. Hopefully the weather will clear, tomorrow we are off to MGM.
