Does someone with say an A last name have a better chance of getting the room request than say someone with a Z last name if they both request the same area and there is only 1 room available?

Don't really follow???
I was told that they go by who "booked" first (made a request w/reserv), based on who "checks in" first. Either way, its a crap shoot, LOL :rotfl2:

I believe it has to do with who checks in first and makes a request. I know there have been very few times my requests have been met when I first check in. I usually very politely mention what my room requests were and ask if I got them. Usually I haven't, but the CM checking me in always says something like "Let me see what I can do." I have heard them, more than once, say something about switching someone else to another room, then laugh. I usually get close to what I requested. Of course, I'm not that picky. In a deluxe resort I ask for top floor close to elevator. In a mod or value I ask for close to food court and buses. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've received the room I was actually assigned prior to check in.

What I'm trying to say is that if someone checked in ahead of you with the same room requests, there is a good chance that if they reiterated their request nicely at check in, that they may get your room, while you get bumped. Then if you check in before someone else and reiterate your request, someone else may get bumped.

Hey KP Toys, I'm not really sure cause we've only stayed onsite once, but we will be at the Poly as well the month after you, so please let me know where you are going to request & if it worked out for you and if you were happy there. I'm really torn b/w where to request ( we paid for GV room, not LV). Any thoughts? Its so spread out that you couldn't be close to everything at once, and i can't decide what it's most important to be close to:
GCH, boat lauch, monorail, TTC or pool???!!! Our kids are very close in age to yours.....so let me know after your trip what you thought, PLEASE!:flower3:

1) Yes, for pre-assignments.
2) When you view the computer, ressies are sorted by date & last name.
3) When they originally come down
. . . they are firstly in the check-in day date
. . . they are secondly in alphabetical order

Missin' Disney: I'd just like to reassure you that the Poly is not THAT big. You could easily request a pool-facing Rarotonga room and you'd be close to everything and still be "in" the resort. Anything in Samoa or Niue will be close to everything too. That said, I just don't think the resort is that big.

I personally wonder if checking on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (early) gives one an advantage.

Thanks coolpool! It'll be our first time to the Poly and we're really exited! I was thinking Samoa with a volcano-pool view would be pretty central to everything.....but then i heard that it can have heavy foot-traffic but it would be very convenient to "all". I was also thinking about asking if there are any Lagoon view's available....as an upgrade...is that a faux-pas since i only paid for garden view? I'm a newbie at this and appreciate all the advice i can get!:goodvibes

Sorry to get ot w/Missin'Disney but here goes...
I stayed a few weeks ago for 10 nights in a Samoa patio room facing the Volcano Pool. So I got a good feel for what the resort was like across many days with many different guests. Yes, there are people at the pool and on the walkway. If you are sitting on your patio, then you will hear pool and walkway noise but rarely (and I mean rarely) would it be of a sort to interfere with or lessen one's enjoyment of the view. If you are sitting in your room with the patio door shut you don't hear a thing. I'd also like to point out that there is a fairly wide strip of grass plus vegetation between the pool and Samoa that possibly acts as a visual and noise break. If you are worried about privacy, then I would not suggest getting a ground floor room in any hotel.

My pic again from Samoa patio to volcano pool...

If they did it alphabetically I would be sitting pretty. My last name starts with Ac. That said, we have not always gotten our requested room even if we checked in fairly early in the day. I have noticed that Poly is one resort where there are a lot of specific requests. Some have posted that they always get them and some never get them. We requested Samoa, ground floor, facing Volcano pool last early Dec. and got Rapa Nui (one of the further longhouses from GCH) and they told us there was nothing available closer. We thought we were a little too specific with our request so maybe we should have had a second choice requested. We still enjoyed our stay, of course.

So remember not to be disappointed if you don't get the location you requested since it is only a request. Asking for an upgrade is OK, no harm done, but those are a long shot.
