Im off in a few weeks, me and my friend are going for 4 nights. We are planning to maybe do the paris day trip you get through your Hotel, when i went oct last year we considered doing it then, but we did the night tour instead.

I cant really remember the price of the day trip, but my friends recalls it to be around 90 euros.

If anyone has done this trip would you say its worth the money? or are we best to try get are own way there?
we are assuming with the day trip you are not stuck on a coach all day that you do get to stop off at certain attractions?

any info on it would be great thanks:)

I'v enever done the pre-arranged tour, but personally I'd say if it's anywhere near 90 euros each, then I would organise your own trip.

Paris is very easy to get to and also get around using the RER and Metro trains. An all inclusive ticket to allow you to use any train you like, as many times as you like is also fairly cheap and it grants you a lot more freedom as to what you can see, what times you can do it etc...

Yeh i msut admitted was a bit:eek: myself over the price.

The only thing that im worried about (sorry i worry about everything, get it from me mum) is not finding my way back to disneyland, is it quite easy to find the train station to get back? i would worry incase we missed the last train:eek: so thats why i was thinking it would be better to go through the Hotel.........but i would really love to do it myself! that xtra money i would save could be for more gifts:)

Its pretty easy to be honest. There's lots of stations around. Not all of them connect directly to DLRP but you can get back to a relevant station easily enough.

If you have a look around on Google, there should be a few copies of the metro and RER maps around.

If you've tried navigating round London, then it's not much different to be honest - if you walk for a while then you're bound to fall down a metro station sooner or later, even if you walk completely the wrong way somehow.

There's a map here - it's a lot easier to navigate Paris than the map looks and if you work out roughly where you want to go, then you can find out the stations the places are nearly and work it out that way.

yeh good idea thank you:) i will have a look so im sort of prepared when im there.
Yes ive done london a few times, and i do find that quite easy. so probably just worrying more than i should be:lmao:

If you have a look at my trip report from Easter 08 we did 2 day trips into Paris and Ive outlined the attractions we did and how to get to them by metro

The ticket you need from DLP to Paris is the mobilis ticket - this will get you there and back and gives you unlimited use of metro in paris - I think it costs about 14Euros

There are several stations in Paris where you can get off and get the train back to DLP but the easiest one to find is probably Charles de Gaulle Etoile which is at the top of th Champs Elysee next to the Arc de Triomphe

great thanks!! Im going to write all these little notes in my little book:)

i will have a little nosy at your easter trip! 14Euros thats great alot alot cheaper than the tour:banana:

just had a look in the brochure

its £46 each

we had considered doing this , but then we found the paris visite travel card which will cost us £14 for unlimited travel

we went on the cityrama couch tour to paris on our last trip to dlrp.
we booked it at concierge at our hotel and paid around 62euro per person (included boat trip on river seine/1st floor eiffel tower)
we went with the tour cause i was scared that we wouldnt be able to find our way around paris. we didnt mind the tour but next time we'll be going by ourselves as u get more time to do what u like

From what i have read on here, i think i might give it ago on my own. long as i prepare before i go i should be ok :upsidedow

That's exactly what we did and although we really enjoyed it, was worth the money and it served its purpose (ie gave us some idea of what we wanted to see in Paris and whereabouts everything was), this coming July we are going to do it ourselves, I know I'll get plenty of help and advice off the good people here too!

You only need this card if you will benefit from the discounts it offers. If you only want it for travel, then the Mobilis ticket is what you want.

Our last trip we got off here to climb the Arc de Triomphe, walked down Champs Elysees to Place de la Concorde, lunched at Angelina's :cloud9: , visited the Louvre and then on to climb Notre Dame, then walked back to catch the train home to DLRP from Auber Station.

We didn't even have a Mobilis ticket for this, we bought even cheaper tickets which only allowed us a train journey in and a journey home, I prefer to walk as I think you can miss such a lot when you are underground although everything we wanted to see was in a straight line! Next time I would like to go to Sacre Coeur and I will be getting a Mobilis ticket, even I won't be walking that far! :rotfl:

I agree - walking round Paris is so nice.

Another thing I like doing is getting the metro to Trocadero (only one stop from Charles de Gaulle) and walking from there to the Eiffel Tower. The views from there of the Tower are wonderful. Also as you say we enjoy walking by the river between Notre Dame and the Louvre

i spoke to my friend today, think we may keep to the tour this time, till we are a bit more confident. i didnt realise till this thread that the tour included a river trip and the first level of the Eiffel tower.:cool1:

do you have time to look at any shops when doing this tour though? if its like they say meet in an hour etc back at the coach? can you do what you want in that hour?

I did the coach tour in 1996 when my younger son was just 6 and the oldest was 13 because we were scared we could had not been able to make them walk all around (you know how kids are lol).
It was pretty well organized (each one of us had an hearphone with the Italian speaking tour guide), saw Notre Dame, did the Seine boat trip and had time to go up the Eiffel Tour) but anyway it was very very overpriced and it didn't save if from my youngest moaning all the time that he did want to go back to Disneyland lol
As the others have said it's so easy - and nice - to go around Paris by yourself we did it in 2007 and the only side effect was the burning feet when we got back to the hotel lol

I'm going off my memory here from last August when we did the Cityrama tour.
We left Hotel New York around 10am, first stop was a 20 minute stretch your legs at the back of the Eiffel Tower, not really any time to get to any shops. After a tour of the city we stopped again at the Eiffel Tower, were led through the queues to the lift to the first floor, we had 90 minutes at the Eiffel Tower which we thought was ages, but be prepared to queue if you want the toilet and we queued for ages to get the lift back down, we had to meet back at the River Seine for the boat trip so again because of queuing we were stuck for time to go and find a cafe (which my son really wanted to do). The boat trip was wonderful and after that finished it was back on the bus where we stopped for 50 minutes at the Louvre where we looked round the gardens and did look round some shops in here. At no point did we feel rushed it was a wonderful introduction to Paris and it's history and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

thanks everyone:) the coach trip doesnt sound to bad, ive been telling my friend what ive read on here, she would love to the boat cruise etc:cool1: :cool1: just need to take some extra money to pay for it:lmao:

I went up the Eiffiel tower years ago, i really hate lifts:scared1: . where ever there are stairs i will use them up or down:)
so can you walk up to the first level of the tower or do you have to get the lift? its been years and years so i cant remember
