The other military tickets

So I am looking to planning a family trip next year for my husbands family who has never been to WDW.

I know about the salute tickets but we would be looking into the magic your way military or the stars and stripes....

So a normal disney ticket if a child is 3 the day you arrive you pay for a ticket right, but if the child is still 2 and turns 3 during the trip you don't need a ticket right?

Is this same for the other discounted tickets correct?

Yes you are correct. Tickets are tickets. No matter where you buy them the same age rules apply.
