The opposite of TMI--NEI!

My MIL has a perpetual cold. It goes on for months and months. She never goes to the doctor. Last year she had the cold again. It got so bad that she ended up in the ER. She had pnuemonia and pertusis. She spent the entire day in the ER and then was admitted. FIL didn't call because he didn't want to worry us. We found out because MIL called DH after FIL left to go home for the night. DH got a called from his mom, who was drugged up on morphine, telling him not to worry she was in the "hosthpital". DH called FIL immediately to ask what was going on.

Oh man, that must be really annoying and scary. Things that are clearly serious aren't even announced... I'm so sorry.

It's not like you're wanting a novel on what happened but I think you should be told when someone close to you dies or is in serious condition.

My DM's side of the family is TMI, but DF's side is definitely NEI. For example...

I come home from CO to WI for Xmas my freshman year of college. Rush out to the pasture to see my childhood pony.

No pony.:scared1:

Me to family, "Did someone forget to tell me something:confused3?"

Now there's one cousin specifically tasked with "Tell Terri when something important happens in the family"!

Terri
