What are some of your past shot opportunities that you just couldn't pull off for some reason; whether it was equipment failure, or the moment just passed??? I know we all have loads of them; but which ones stand out the most??? A few of mine (yours don't have to be Disney related though).....

I was at Animal Kingdom, and i saw a bird land directly on a Kodak Picture Spot sign. I instantly saw the shot I wanted, and my camera and position were already set. But there were people starting to pass in front of me (although it was no one near before). Needless to say, after the people had passed, the bird flew away. :(

Another bird one. I actually saw this tiny little bird drinking that tiny bit of water from a water fountain spout. I was right next to him; but of course, I wasn't setup at all. The lens cap was on and everything. :(

And yet another bird one. Probably one of the coolest things. But next to the Hall of Presidents, there's that outside snack stand under a covering. Well, a black bird had somehow managed to grab an unopened bag of Doritos and had taken it on the top of this roof (at least I think that's how it got up there.... Makes for a better story though). But it was cool to see this bird constantly pecking at this bag to get it open. It probably would've made for a fun short video. I did get a picture of this happening. But I wished I had gotten a wider shot that also had the snack stand in it. He was right above the area with the chips. So that picture could've told the story on its own.... Mine doesn't do that. :(

And lastly, and most heart breaking.... Some of you might know I'm into shooting candid shots of people in the parks (see sig ;) ). But as I was holding my daughter after a feeding (and having my camera still at the ready, mind you), I saw the absolute perfect scene that just speaks Disney. So I'm sitting next to my wife, and to the left of us, I see 2 ladies eating Mickey ice cream pops. The next thing you know, this little boy to the left of them just starts staring then down... and I mean HARD. And from my vantage point, I saw exactly how i wanted to play this shot... How to compose it.... How great the dof would look (blur on the pops with the boy in sharp focus).... That intensity on the boy's face... Going for a wide screen look at processing.... Everything!!!! But I couldn't get the shot. I couldn't just throw my daughter down. And I'll just say that handing her to my wife wouldn't worked either ("you're Passing your daughter off to take pictures of strangers?"). Anyway, I think of that missed moment all the time. :(

3 weeks ago waiting by fishlips for the ream to sail by... waited and waited, then went for dinner, no movement. I had my tripod up and my 12-24 on waiting for it... we left because the kids were getting grumpy ( I Mean us lol) we pull into the hotel parkin lot and get a text from our friends saying its moving!!! SCREEEEEECH! We turn around burn rubber to catch it as it sails past. The only shots I ended up with were when I was walking towards it (Handheld) and through a security fence....

So as I leap out of the van, I grab my camera and I must have hit the battery door release button cause my eneloops went flying! Luckily my son saw where they landed and helped me reload , thats why you can see my wife and daughter at the fence already, they had a 60 second head start!

that was the most recent big bummer...

and here is the best I could salvage...

I didn't want to read and run because I looked at your pictures. Candid shots have always been my favorite, and the one of the sleeping lady on the bench is priceless! Thanks for sharing the link.

I have a bird story too- three weeks ago today I was going over to Epcot to possibly meet Todd_H and Groucho for some night shooting during EMH's. I got there a little early so I parked at the Poly- grabbed some sushi from the Kona Cafe- and rode the resort monorail to MK for an hour or two of shooting before I would head to Epcot. Went through the GF stop and the monorail is coming around the bend toward the MK and I look out the window over the lake and there is a real live bald eagle flying maybe 50' away right at my level with the GF in the background. I was pretty shocked- I never thought about it but I've never actually seen one fly before- and it was amazingly beautiful seeing one sort of up close not just sitting there injured on a zoo perch. As for the camera part- unfortunately all I had on me was my Infrared D100 and 10-24mm lens- I can't even think of how that could have worked out any worse. On top of that I hesitated the few seconds I could have got anything at all. So all I ended up with for pictures is a handful of the GF with a tiny bird in the frame no one would know is an eagle unless I told them- but it was still pretty cool to see.

I am pretty sure these are contrails for the secret Aurora plane. This was taken the same date and time of the Stephenville, TX UFO incident a few years back.

So, the Aurora is the picture that got away. That's my big fish photography story anyway.

We were hanging out in DHS, just taking a break, I think eating some popcorn. We were to the right of the sorcerer hat, sitting/leaning on the brick wall right before you go down the stairs towards Toy Story. We start to notice that people are congregating to the right of us and realize that we seem to have started the 'line' for whichever character are coming out next. We laughed at this because my boys at the time were 12 and 14, so we rarely waited in line for the characters anymore. But sure enough here came Pocahontas and next to her Lilo. We decided what the heck, we were in 'Line' so might as well get pictures taken, it was a funny, unexpected moment. I took the pictures alright, but we had just come out of One Man's Dream and the camera was still on those settings. :headache: Needless to say the pics of the boys with Pocahontas and Lilo are totally blown out. I wish I had the pictures from that funny memory. :sad2:
