At least he told you what he wanted, mine never did, so I suggested some of his faves and he finally picked one.

OMG!!! $20-30,000, that is unbelievable! I guess the price of materials is still high almost 2 years after the Big K?:confused3

Oh yeah, he told me what he wanted! I was hoping he want to go out somewhere nice. :confused3 NO WAY! He wants to watch the F-1 Grand Prix (car racing) while eating his beans & fish!:lmao:

The materials are up there! But I think it's more in the labor & this job is more actually more labor than materials. His labor cost are up there. But still in line with the other prices we received on the bathroom bid. I think what makes this even worse is that every contractor out there would rather have the "easier" jobs where the house was gutted & they are not having to retrofit everything.

Stuffed Peppers. made with macaroni.. The thread abou them a coupl days ago left me craving them

Jenny, I made some this week and added Israeli couscous instead of rice and they were so good. I think I am going to use a macaroni product again, they were so yummy!

My ring is ready :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: ...hopefully its right this time...if not, I have another one, kind of like an everyday to match Tom's. We ordered them on line...they are tungsten...supposed to be the strongest...:)

Every day you have more completed! Your special day is so close now, you're almost there!

It was great! The coach initially told Kyle he only wanted him to pitch 3 or 4 innings because he has been sick, but he was doing really well and he kept telling coach "just one more inning". He ended up pitching a shut-out thru 6 innings the score was 12-0. We won 12-2. I was very proud of him and of course I had to check on him a few times while he was in the dug-out to make sure he was feeling OK.;)

Sheryl - It was super sweet because we were playing Holy Cross' Legion team, who were supposedly the best Legion team in the city! Our boys all played terrific baseball last night, it was so much fun to watch!:thumbsup2

There is not much better than sitting on the bleachers watching your son is there? You have got to be super proud today!

Mine would park on the chair with a pitcher of lemonade on one side and a plate of wings on the other in front of the Nascar race! Add a cucumber and onion salad and he would be in Heaven!

Sheryl- I can understand the sticker shock you had. When we planned our renovation my DH had $30,000 for the entire thing. Now this was to enlarge the house, and completely rebuild the entire living area and kitchen!:scared: The architect kept cringing and I was sick because even I knew better than that. I know that he knew better, but it was wishful thinking on his part. Well, we went to choose cabinets and when the salesman would not give a price, he would send it to us in an estimate. That is when the poor guy knew it was not going to be pretty.

Really, it is good that you got the price for all of your wishes, then you can withdraw the extras until you get the price you want. Our original cabinet estimate was almost $25,000 so needless to say, we made changes to the wish list from the start. We found that it was easier to have the price of our dreams on paper and then we could honestly make changes based on our priorities.

I forgot to post dinner. DD is out shopping with DDIL and they are going to get takeout or something. I just found out that there is going to be a jack and Jill type of thing for one of Buddy's coworkers. He is not sure tht he wants to go, did I want to talk him out of it? I told him that if it involved eating dinner out, don't look at me for help :rotfl2:. So, he doesn't know what he wants to do, and I don't care one way or another because either way we are eating out.

Well school is basically over so I have time to cook again!!! Good bye (for a few months) Lean Cuisines and take out every night!!!
Tonight I am in the middle of making Simple Southern Style "Unfried" Chicken, rice pilaf, string beans and that delicious sounding ice cream cake posted a few pages back. Can't wait to eat! :)

Looks like I'll miss my fried green tomatoes this week. DH is craving boiled crawfish, so that's now WFD!! I'm really gonna suffer.:rotfl2:

Kathy -- Congratulations to Kyle!! You must be so proud, and the game must have been so fun to watch. Even though Liam isn't at Kyle's level yet, I do love watching the games because Liam has so much fun playing.

Sheryl -- Yikes! 20-30K seems like a lot. I guess I'll just keep fantasizing about renovations.

Dinner tonight was cheeseburgers, potato chips, and pickles. It was a baseball-filled day, so that seemed appropriate. Liam agreed as he ate two cheeseburgers and one hotdog. And he's not even a teenager yet. Forget saving for college...I think I need to start saving for future grocery bills!

Thanks to you and Nancy! - yep I'm very proud of him. I was never even a baseball fan until Kyle started playing and it's so much fun at any level, it just gets so much more intense the older they get!

Laura - Just wait, you think the grocery bill is bad now, when the hormones kick in and they go through growth spurts it's like a bottomless pit!

Hi, everyone! I hope you've all had a good Saturday. We spent most of the day at DH's family reunion. I made a batch of buffalo wings (excellent) and a batch of maple barbecue wings (excellent as well). We were told to bring a main and a side dish. So I did the wings, the ranch potato salad, and 2 ice cream sandwich cakes for dessert. We got there, and everyone else had bought their main dishes. There were buckets of KFC, Subway sandwiches, etc. I was totally the only one who made a main dish. Oh well. At least my wings tasted good. My BIL even asked what restaurant I'd gotten them from. Now, that's a compliment.

The ice cream sandwich cakes turned out so yummy! I will definitely be making more of those.

W're all so stuffed, we're not really having dinner tonight. The kids will have some cereal or something, but that's about at glamorous as it gets tonight.

I won't be around for a week starting tomorrow. I'm going to spend a week at my parents house. My dad is the executive producer for the Utah Shakespearean Festival, and opening week starts on Monday. So, we're taking the family to see some plays and help get things up and running. Take care of yourselves, and I expect to hear some great wedding stories when I get back!!!!!

Thanks to all for the great veggie suggestions and hey, if you're in Jersey, I'll give you whatever you like!

Congrats, Kyle!

Dislifer - I am the *same* way - another teacher here- lunch ev day is Lean Cuisine or a Thai noodle bowl (just add water) and for dinner, we often do the easiest thing, although I love to cook on weekends or on unbusy times. That means, sandwiches, salads, turkey burgers, stirfries, etc. things that I can make within 1/2 hour mostly.

Now, in the winter and fall, I was all about the fantastic crock pot recipes I found on this thread. Those are easy to throw together and have for 3 or more dinners, if you freeze some.

I'm having some salad and pizza, though, tonight. Nothing special. I've been cleaning all day for Father's Day tomorrow. My mom is making homemade meatballs in onion gravy and mashed potatoes for tomorrow per my dad's request.

Happy Father's Day to all dads, grandfathers, godfathers, uncles, stepfathers, etc. who are role models to the kids in their lives!

We are taking FIL out for dinner today so no cooking for me :)

WFD at your house?

Not sure WFD here. Alex is taking his dad to a Minor league game today. They are having a father's day brunch first. Hopefully they won't melt today. It's pretty hot here with no rain. I think the last rain we had was over 2 weeks ago, the grass is pretty crispy.

Hope everyone's father's day is great. Hug your dad

:lmao:Love it! The houses in my area were cottages so the construction and layout leave a lot to be desired. We needed a variance for our renovation and it was necessary to prove a hardship. The zoning board almost fell off their chairs when I told them my hardship was banging my behind on the oven every time I tried to serve dinner. :rotfl2: They said that was not really the hardship the planners had in mind :confused3 but that they would find one for me in order to save my bruised backside.

Nancy, I woke up DH I was laughing so hard at this. I can see you saying exactly that in front of that board and can see Buddy looking red-faced as you did it.

I am only 5 feet, but I tell ya I felt like 8 feet tall walking off after that comment...............and that my friends was breakfast...........................Thanks once again for the support....I tell ya I could feel you all sitting in the booth with me!!!

I'm proud of you dear. You kept your mouth shut longer than I know I could have, and got your point across with style and wit.

Also - good luck to your son on his competition.

Sheryl - :scared1: $20,000?!?! Wow, I was thinking of some minor remodeling in our kitchen, but now I know not to bother. Let us know what you end up doing.

Kathy - Congrats on Kyle's win!!! I know you and your hubby are really proud. Tell DH Happy Birthday for me.

Lauren - Hope the ring was perfect.

Lori - thanks for the drink recipes, the sex in the holler sounds delish.

Sandy - that ice cream sandwich recipe looks fabulous. I have printed it and added it to my VERY limited dessert collection.

I hope I haven't left anyone out, but I had to catch up since Tuesday's posts and it was a lot to catch up on. Work was insane :headache: this week and the therapist that was giving me some issues about a month ago quit this week. Thursday was her last day. So between work and DD's therapy situation, I had no time to do anything for myself - this included. Work should be calmer this week and I have the therapy situation settled for the next couple of weeks although I have to find a replacement so I should be able to check in tomorrow and the rest of the week.

I hope everyone's husband and/or father has a great Father's Day.

Gretchen

Lauren, here is the Mai Tai recipe. I have seen many more complicated recipes, but this one tasted just right to us. :goodvibes

Thank you!

:yay: :yay: You must be getting so excited, I'm getting excited for you. Can't wait to see the ring!!!!!

The Omaha sole isn't by any stretch the best seafood I've ever eaten, but for the money and not having to cook it, it's a deal that's just too good to pass up!:thumbsup2

Way to goKyle!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I am excited!!! One week from today, I will be getting ready to get my hair done and maybe have a mimosa!!! :)

You are right on with the sole...not the best I've ever had but the easiness makes it a 10!!!

It's right and gorgeous...Tom won't let me post a pic til after the wedding...:upsidedow

TWENTY-FREAKIN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!! $30,000!!! We are not going to be able to do that & planning on major cutbacks now. :sad2:

We will discuss it further with the contractor & I'll keep y'all updated.

OMG!!! :scared1: Maybe you can work out something else.

Every day you have more completed! Your special day is so close now, you're almost there!

I won't be around for a week starting tomorrow. I'm going to spend a week at my parents house.

I am sorry you went through all that work and no one else did...alot of people don't go out of their way anymore...I am sure everyone raved about what you brought so that makes it worth it...any pics???

Have a great time with your parents!

Thanks to all for the great veggie suggestions and hey, if you're in Jersey, I'll give you whatever you like!

I didn't know you were in NJ!!! Are you near me? I am in Clinton but grew up in Secaucus...

Lauren - Hope the ring was perfect.

They got the ring right!!!

I am sorry that you are having a hard time with the therapist...   I'll say a prayer that everything gets settled for you...

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL THE DADS, GRANDDADS AND MEN THAT ARE WONDERFUL ROLE MODELS FOR THE CHILDREN!!!

We are going to my brothers house for a bbq. I am bringing Glynis famous Ranch Potato Salad and Blueberry dump cake. I just made the cake...it smells wonderful.

Have a great day all!!!

Good morning everyone! Happy Father's Day!!!

This morning I'm making breakfast for DH. We're having scrambled eggs with salsa, sausage and cinnamon raisin strata. It's like a layered baked french toast. Really yummy!!!

We're leaving for my parent's house this afternoon, so I don't think I'll be making dinner. If we do anything before we leave it will be grilled chicken breasts. Simple but filling.

Have a great week everyone, and I'll be back on the 26th!

Happy Fathers Day to all the men in your lives, may they have a very happy, special day!!

Sheryl - Got them beans & fish going yet???

Glynis - :thumbsup2 to you for taking the time to make a homemade dish! Sad to hear you're leaving us for another week, but you'll have a great time with your parents, I'm sure!!!!!

Lauren - I guess I'll have to wait to see the pic of the ring, I'm sure it will be worth the wait!! :woohoo: Only one week!!!!!!!!!!

Gretchen - I'll be praying that the therapist situation works out for you!

Janice - I hope the guys have a great time at the game.:cheer2:

Fathers Day dinner will be Spaghetti with Bolognese sauce (his choice) :confused3 . I'm also trying Jenny's Spinach Bruschetta. Dessert will be Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie!!

I suppose it'll be slow here today as we'll all be pampering the men.:rolleyes1

We are having friends over for dinner...Bobby was our roomate for 10 years.. We were the legal guardians of his daughter for much of that 10 year while he was away with the Navy..She is the blond in my sig...I raised her from age 2 until she moved out last year...Bobby is transferring to Virginia in Nov, and from then probably on to Iraq within a few months.. We will have lots of gettogethers this summer as it may be a very long time between visits come November.
I'm making Grilled marinated flank steaks, Hot dogs ,Hamburgers Baked potatoes w sour cream and chives and Strawberry shortcake for dessert

Today I'm going to try "Should Be Illegal BBQ Ribs". They're in the oven they cook 2.5 hours covered and another 30 minutes uncovered. I think I will serve french fries and corn with them.
Also, for dessert...we still have a lot of that delicious ice cream cake left over from yesterday! This was the recipe posted a few days ago...came out very good and the kids said it's a definite "make again"!!!

My dad is coming over for dinner. We're having Rachael Ray's sloppy joes and her potato salad. It doesn't sound like much, but it's a meal he really likes. Dessert is watermelon, cantaloupe, and peaches with a simple syrup and mint leaves.

Have a wonderful day!

Melanie

I know I posted the sloppy joe recipe, but I'll add the potato salad recipe later. It is very simple and the one we make the most here.

Yum, can you send some crawfish up here please?? I've only been to New Orleans once, DH and I did a Boston-Texas drive in 1993, and we stopped in. Can you believe that 1. I was a vegetarian, and 2. we ate at the HARD ROCK CAFE!!!??? How stupid was that??? I have always thought about all the yummy foods I passed up for a New Orleans Hard Rock cafe veggie burger.

Today's linner was bbq ribs, fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, and corn bread. I only made the chicken, my Mom made everything else. I also have to report that my Mom makes the best fried chicken, and I thought today's batch from me was pretty inferior. My sister might weigh in with the official verdict in a few hours, as I sent some home with the kids for their dinner. I don't have a picture of the full meal, but here is one of the chicken cooking:

Last night I ended up making a couple of cowboy ribeye steaks seasoned with "pirates pepper seasoning" I brought back from vacation, chipotle-roasted garlic-cheddar mashed potatoes, grilled chicken sausages seasoned with tequilia, cilantro, and lime, a huge salad with mized greens, radishes, carrots, sweet onions, tomatoes, etc., and crusty bread.
