Afternoon Y'all,

First off I gonna make everyone jealous, I'm off today (no little turn her nose up at homemade whipped cream chile) so after getting DH off to work I went back to bed and slept til almost noon!!! Soo...

Sheryl, those shrimp look great. That is what I am planning for dinner tomorrow night. Tonight, who knows?
Gretchen

No idea what's for dinner here either. I can only turn out 1 or 2 a week like last night's dinner! Probably leftovers if DD doesn''t want them.

Good morning ladies!

Sheryl - The shrimp look great, tweak away sista!!
WFD tonight will be my DH bringing home my Friday night special - Fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade.

I have a question for y'all. I'm going to attempt to make sweet potato fries this weekend for the first time. If you've done it do you bake or fry? I know it can be done both ways, but just wanted to see what you guys thought.:confused3

Tweeaaak, tweeaak!
Kathy, I've never tried fixing them either. Let us know how you did it & how they came out. Girl, you are going to turn into a fried green tomato!!

Dinner tonight is going to be easy. DD and DS have wedding anniversaries within two days of each other, so the four of them are going to a comedy show at the Hukelau. It is only going to be Kady, DH and me, so Buddy is going to be a very happy guy tonight. We are going to have......wait for it...........tuna sandwiches!

Y'all have a place called the Hukelau! Love that! Nancy, I told DH about your Nanatizing, he thought that was so funny! He said he'll wont flat out steal your word, but he will use a form of it he thinks my food is more Nanified that tized!:lmao:

BWAAaaaahhaaaaaa!:lmao: :lmao:

:woohoo: Go Buddy, chase yer tuna, Go Buddy!:woohoo:

:rotfl: Go Buddy, Go Buddy, Go Buddy!!!!

OceanAnnie, Hope the Augmentin works for the strep!:flower3:

I will say the bratwurst was really good last night. If anyone wants the recipe I'll post it. I got it from recipezaar. Did it in the crockpot. I'm sure I was a sight buying a 40 oz Miller bottle (for the brat) with the kids in tow. I kept my sunglasses on :cool2: like that would hide me. LOL. :rotfl2: I was just hoping I wouldn't run into anyone I know. The things we do for dinner!
QUOTE]

Those brats must have been really good. Did you use the whole 40? I hope you walked out with the 40 in a paper sack. My old neighbor used to walk around with a 40 in a paper sack like no one would know what it was ;) :lmao:

Thanks, Shovan! :)

Hersey, the brats were good! The cashier put the beer in a dumb flimsy transparent plastic bag. I walked very quickly to the parking lot behind my oversized sunglasses (which I don't particularly like, but was thankful for at the time). Probably had people guessing that I couldn't wait to chug it down with the kids trailing behind me. I'm sure bratwurst didn't come to mind when anyone saw me! :lmao:

Ugh, well, DS tested postive for strep at his appt. The ped. said DS didn't look like he had strep, and that strep normally didn't present itself with diarrhea. But apparently ours does. She went ahead and tested him b/c of the exposure and that tomorrow was sat. So, instead of hitting the mall like I had planned after the dr. visit, we sat in Walgreen's! So, I don't know if i'll be cooking tonight at all. We'll see!

 for you and DS. I hope he starts feeling better soon!

We are going to have......wait for it...........tuna sandwiches!

:cheer2: Go Buddy Go!!!!!!!!

Kathy -- I've made sweet potato fries both baked and fried, but I think I like them baked better. When we make them for Sunday supper, we cut into wedges, shake them around in a bag with some vegetable oil (not too much though or else the sticks are REALLY soggy. I know, this was a recipe I said, oh well, more oil could only be better, right? Wrong. Use just enough to lightly coat), some paprika and salt and pepper and bake for about 45 minutes at 425 until done. Turn at least once.

I have a question for ya - My guys don't like wedges they like a smaller fry. So I assume the cooking time would be less? Also do you peel them and aren't they pretty hard to cut?:confused3

My kids have strep now too. They are on Augmenten. We had a long wait and I wasn't on top of my game at the time they were seen. Usually whenever they go on Augmenten it doesn't do the trick. We have to go back for something stronger. Omnicef seems to do better. I don't know why I didn't say anything. I'm crossing my fingers that Augmenten will take care of it this time.

I sure hope the Augmenten works and they get better soon!

Tell you what my friend...I will have 2 margarita's just for you!!:rotfl:
I will make sure that I give you a day or two's notice for freezer use!! There will be at least one dmil going in if this keeps up.......

Tell Kyle that Wendie in Maine says "Drive Safe!!!" ;)

Oh and I would bake the sweet fries, fwiw.

Freezer's ready, how are we gonna get her down here?? Sounds like a road trip with MIL is in order!!:rotfl2:

Gave Kyle the message, thanks!!

I've never cut a sweet potato into fries, they're pretty hard aren't they?

Lori - Loved the story about Grandma. Reminds me of when my Mom was in a nursing home in Kilgore, TX during the evacuation. My Dad was in the hospital and Mom was alone in the room. She was in what we call the "funny" stage of Alzheimers - all she talked & thought about was sex. She flipped over the male nurse that was taking care of her, she called him her "studmuffin".One day when we got there "studmuffin" just shook his head and started laughing and said "watch this". He entered the room and she proceeded to tear her moo-moo off saying "come here my muffin". I was horrified, Johnny & Kyle were in tears they were laughing so hard.

Well, Grandpa likes Joe so I guess that makes things easier there. But Grandma just giggles whenever he talks to her or helps her to get up. It was really cute. But I thank God she doesn't have the strength to rip off the moo-moo.:scared1: But actually she's wrapped like a mummy in sweats. In my visits I had to take several breaks and drape myself over the AC unit in the hallway. It had to be 90 degrees in that freakin place! I'd have been roasting!

I'm just so thankful my Dad wasn't there, I don't think his weak heart could have taken it, poor thing!

Stephanie with all the chat, I missed this. Sorry, hope the meds work really fast & your DS get's well real soon! One good thing about strep that I've found is when they get the right antibiotic it seems to clear up pretty quickly.

Yeah, I think that would have been too much for him!:flower3:

Kathy, I made your salad with some of those tomatoes that are called "ugly" tomatoes that I picked up from Winn Dixie. They were pretty good but not creoles. My DH just skyped from work, a buddy picked up a big box & they're splitting it. He's bringing home some creole babies for me!!!

HA!:lmao: Kathy, He just sent me this message.

DH said
Well I am sure they will be just ok being "lowland" tomatoes and all.
:rotfl:

(Remember from that DDP thread, that person called our food "lowland".)

Now I know who to call if my freezer if full and I have an IL or two who needs to "cool off".

Oh Kathy, you had me laughing with your story. I think all of the "mature" ladies flirt with the men around them. My Mom was shameless in the hospital when she had her potassium issue. OMG she was so inappropriate that we stayed there almost 24/7, but the make aides thought that she was "cute".

:rotfl2::rotfl2:You keep sloshing all that stuff on her and she may start eating her Wheaties.

The strange thing with Mom was she was never a "flirty" woman, but boy oh boy did she make up for it in her final years. I'm sure Daddy was looking down saying "Why couldn't she have been like that when I was down there"!:lmao:

What the heck were they trying to say. I can tell you that when I try a new recipe, DH usually asks me if it is from one of the NOLA girls. And just so you don't misunderstand, if I answer yes, it means he is expecting a great meal.

She actually said the following quotes in response to a guy who said he knew food because he was a cajun.

Yeah, she made me so mad! I had a lot to say about that! When you have the time (it goes on for pages & pages) but the Why I Hate the DDP thread turned into a Cajun/New Orleans love fest!

:furious:I started that thread but stopped reading after a while. I have been in an ugly mood with the way some folks have been so snooty in regards to those( read that probably me) who are deemed "unworthy" and ruined their Disney Dining by actually eating in their restaurants, so this would have put me over the edge!

Now, what would spark that kind of ignorant comment? Don't send her to our thread, if she thinks the NOLA's can't know food, what would she say about my poor shabby bowl of tuna fish...(chunk light of course, we don't like the good stuff :confused3)

Never mind.....I am going over there to see for myself.....

Hmm...I'm thinking they may not come out right with the method I said if you cut them smaller. Yes, sweet potatoes are definitely difficult to cut, unless you have a mandoline. Can you get a bag of frozen sweet potato fries, dump them in some oil and pass them off as your own?? Around here, there is a brand called Alexia, and they make sweet potato fries. DSis and I made them in the deep fat fryer one weekend, and they were pretty good.

It's amazing what people will say on the Internet. To be honest, I avoid so many threads on this board -- a recent one that comes to mind is "Would You Be Proud if Your Child Joined the Military." I read a couple pages, but I stopped. I don't come on to the Disboards to fight with people.

Dinner tonight was pretty good. Here's a picture of the tomato tart:

I have to admit, I only ate a little bit of it, though, because I started eating the eggplant sticks as soon as they came out of the oven. With the exception of what the kids ate, I think I had the whole eggplant.

I've never seen frozen ones and I really want to do them from scratch. How about if I parboil the potatoes to make them easier to cut? Also do you peel them?:confused3
