Do standard airline headphones work or do I have to buy new ones?

Any headphones will work with the WestJet seatback TV's.

WestJet sells two kinds a cheaper set for a dollar, and premium ones that block more sound out for 3.

I have WestJet questions:

1. Do we self-check in at a kiosk or is there a person who checks us in?

2. Our flight departs at 7:30pm, if we arrive around 5:30pm, will that be enough time to do customs and security?

3. Is there a drink service onboard ~ pop, juice, coffee, tea?

4. Are flights usually on time?

1: WestJet offers a few ways of check-in. Web Check-In is on www.westjet.com and you can print your boarding pass at home and drop your bags off at a special counter. Or, you can use Self Check-In, and do the same thing. The last way is the standard way.

2: I'm not too sure.

3: Yep, and for free! Beer and those type of drinks are avalibile for a fee.

4: You bet! WestJet has ranked #1 on On-Time Performance in surveys and is very often early into cities.

You all seem to have alot of questions about WJ, and as WestJet's official biggest fan, I would like to offer my help, so if there is anything you want to know just ask.

I'll ask my questions then...

I am looking for 4 tickets to travel between either Toronto Pearson or Hamilton to Vancouver (or Calgary) and returning from Calgary (or Vancouver) to departure airport (Pearson or Hamilton). We just get a vehicle and drive one way between Calgary and Vancouver. Thinking of doing this in the last 2 wks of July.

The sale notice I received today says travel up to Jun 15. When should I expect seat sale for travelling in mid to late July?

Thing about my knowledge on seat sales, it's not vast. LOL.

There usually is always one, so check the next seat sale that appears or the one after that.

I thought you could only check-in online and print your boarding passes if you were on a flight within Canada. Cross border flights to the U.S. can't be done that way.

Who can use Web check-in?
You can use Web check-in if:
You have a confirmed flight on WestJet
You are traveling on domestic flights within Canada only
Your flight departure is between 1 hour and 12 hours away

I thought we could by-pass the confusion at the airport when we flew to MCO at Christmas but couldn't because it is only for flights within Canada.

I was looking for a return flight for January 2007 from MCO to YYZ then to YWG in the afternoon. I know that there is an early afternoon flight on the day I want out of MCO, but there does not appear to be enough time to make the connecting flight to Winnipeg (under an hour ).

When I look for current flights prior to our date, there is a doable connecting flight for Winnipeg, but the schedule is different starting the week of October 30. So, my question is whether the flights past Ocotober 30 are based on last years schedule or are they actually up to date and set in stone?

We leave Friday morning going to Calgary from YYZ - 7:30am flight how early would you suggest arriving before the flight?

Is it easier to check in online before going or leave it till we get to the airport?

Another question here.

How far in advance to the Seat Sales come out? So far, Westjet is way more expensive than other airlines for our dates. However, I'd like to try westjet if the price comes down.

I might be able to help BitsnBearsMom though... Having flown out of Calgary several times, I would get there about 1 1/2 hours ahead, especially with kids just to give time to get through security as that can be a real timing problem depending on what other flights are leaving at that time. Besides, if you have younger kids they have a nice play area once past security.

I have never used their online check in, just the kiosks. However, looking at the on-line check in service it says its only for domestic flights, so you might not be able to use it (except for the leg to Toronto ). But if you can, go for it as that confirms seat assignments (again based on what their website says).

Definately do the online check-in (you can do it 12 hours before the flight's scheduled to leave). You get a picture of the plane, showing available seats, and you can pick the ones you want. That way you won't get stuck in the back of the plane, even if you arrive later than you planned.

As it has been mentioned numerously already....you probably can't do online checkin since you're flying to the States. You can only do that within Canada...now whether or not you can only do that with the Calgary-Toronto leg is not known BUT you still have to do it for the Toronto-Orlando leg so why not just do it all at the same time.

This is a question you probably have to call West Jet about to make sure. Now should they change this rule...let us all know!!!! LOL

They had obviously checked in at their airport of origin very early in the morning and landed at Pearson around 7am for the 10:15am flight to Orlando. They were picking up their luggage from a carousel very close to the WestJet check in desk and the staff there were directing them behind the desk and on to customs & Immigration and security. They didn't stand in the check in line with us, they bypassed the line and just handed a portion of their ticket/boarding pass? to the WestJet agent. They already had seat assignments on the YYZ/MCO leg of their journey. There was a contest at the time and I couldn't figure out how the number they were calling was so much lower than ours, as we were at the airport at 7am, until I realized that the person that won was from Western Canada.

Just to clairify - I'm not going to Orlando this time - HOWEVER we are flying from YYZ to Calgary just for the weekend - All 4 of us will leave Toronto tomorrow morning for Calgary, spend the long weekend exploring Lake louise and Banff then the kids and I will fly home on Monday evening leaving dh behind b/c he's there on Buisness. He's returning home on Friday.

Just to clairify - I'm not going to Orlando this time - HOWEVER we are flying from YYZ to Calgary just for the weekend - All 4 of us will leave Toronto tomorrow morning for Calgary, spend the long weekend exploring Lake louise and Banff then the kids and I will fly home on Monday evening leaving dh behind b/c he's there on Buisness. He's returning home on Friday.

That explains a lot. I wondered why we were at the back of the plane when we had checked in about 4 hours before our scheduled flight. I thought we were plenty early to get some seats up front. However, if west coasters are checking in before their Canadian leg, they're way earlier than I am and that explains the mystery.
