What would you fellow Poly lovers do? I'm tempted to stick to option #1. Anyone around for the last round of rehab just 2 years ago? How bad was it when concierge was in a temporary building?

When I asked my DD what she wanted to do the day we arrive she said play on the Poly beach and go swimming. I thought she'd picked Splash and BTM but she wants to do that on day 2.

I made my reservations months ago because I knew exactly what we wanted but now I just don't know what to do.

We stayed in a GVC when the Hawaii building was last being rehabbed about 2 years ago (I think) and they had moved Concierge to the Tahiti building. They had the third floor lounge area set up for the food and television, then took the 2 closest rooms, one on the lagoon side and 1 on the garden side, removed all the furniture and put in chairs and tables, along with the coffee and juice service. This was our first visit to concierge, and we thought it seemed like it was a great set up and has I not known that concierge was normally in another building, I never would have known.

Hi Carol.....Starrucca is just up north a bit. Have a couple of ham radio buddies that live up there. I'm down by Honesdale.
Have a great trip! Looks like you already left and are staying at our two favorite resorts. Hope you come back with a report for us.

Does anyone have an OFFICIAL listing of the renovations. All of the info I am getting, including calling the Polynesian directly, is different. I just want to know which buildings are done and when each building remaining is scheduled to be done. I will be there in August and I definately want to request one of the newly done rooms. Thanks so much... Marilyn :flower:

There is no official listing of when rehab will be done and where and if you read a date somewhere take it with a grain of salt. I have gotten messages from people incharge of the work and from staff there and the dates change all the time and they don't know for sure when things will be done. There is no way to have an accurate list at this point and that is also why I removed dates from my web page. The dates have been changing since last year and even the buildings they end up doing are not in the order they first reported. If you request a renovated room the front desk may not even know what rooms are done since the information does not always make it to them.

Aloha

Hi All-

We just returned from a 9 night stay at the Poly 5/31-6/10). We loved it! We stayed in Tokelau which was wonderful. Short walk to pool and GCH as well as TTC. View was a garden view but we could see the lagoon and peek at the castle. Every night we simply walked to end of the corridor and caught Wishes and caught the light pagent as well. Kona's was wonderful. Pool was really not all the crowded. Always found a table. Overall great experience.

Welcome back! Did you try any of the exotic drinks? My fave is the lapu lapu!

Hope it's ok to tack this on at the end of this thread. We will be checking in to the Polynesian for 5 nights on Sat June 18. Will be calling reservations to get request on the record before they send it to the hotel. Will be needing 2 connecting/adjoining rooms (non-smoking). H, W Daughters 10 and 12. Will have car (valet) but hope to use monorail for MK and Epcot.

Best room to request, with hope of getting. Is best strategy to list alternates? If so, which? Thanks for helping with what I'm sure is an old question.

Richard

Just wanted to say Hey! We will be arriving at WDW on June 17th with 1 night at POR then over to the Poly from the 18th - 24th. We have requested the Somoa bldg. because of the proximity to the pool and the GCH. Have you visited Tikiman's site? He has a lot of advice on rooms. Hope to see you there. Have a great trip.

Just wanted to say that we will be at the Poly from June 25th to July 1st. It's our first time, and we're really looking forward to it.

Speaking of drinks....
has anyone tried an "Island Sunset" ? I saw a pic of the drink here on the boards & it looks great. I had a "Lapu Lapu" last summer during our stay & I'd like to try someything else while we are there (we arrive on 6/18).
Any suggestions?

Where to begin, Ron!?! Well, the lapu lapu is still my beverage of choice, and I see that you've already settled down with an Island Sunset, so how about trying one of these next time? They're all taken from the bar menu at the Tambu Lounge in the Great Ceremonial House:

Backscratcher (Bacardi light rum and Myers's dark rum, passion fruit, and topped with Jack Daniel's and a Bamboo Backscratcher! )

Blue Hawaiian (Bacardi rum, Blue Curacao, pineapple and sweet and sour juices)

Mai Tai (Myers rum and fruit juices)

Malibu Macaw (Malibu coconut rum, Midori melon liqueur, pineapple and cranberry juices)

Maui Rita (1800 Reposado tequila, grand marnier, passion fruit, orange and guava juices and drizzled with 'lava' made from grenadine)

'Ohana Colada (creamy frozen pina colada with Bacardi light rum, coconut and pineapple juices)

South Pacific Cosmopolitan (Absolut citron and grand marnier, with a splash of cranberry juice and a lemon twist garnish

Tradewinds (a frozen blend of Myers's dark rum, Malibu coconut rum, banana liqueur and blackberry brandy combined with pina colada mix with a dash of grenadine)

Zombie (a powerful blend of Myers dark rum, apricot brandy, fruit juices, a dash of grenadine and topped with Bacardi 151)

Me, I'll stick with this Lapu Lapu! It's tropical fruit juices and Myers dark rum served in a hollowed-out pineapple topped with Bacardi 151, the top piece of the hollowed-out pineapple, and a paper umbrella! They're especially good relaxing out on one of the Polynesian Resort beach hammocks. Disney used to hollow out the pineapples themselves, but switched to outsourcing (to a non-Disney company) about a year ago or so, buying the fresh pineapples already "cored" to their specifications.

Oh, no! My pineapple is empty... Bartender, Hana hou!

Hi Rich!! :wave2: I'll take one of each of those!!!!!!!!! Only 3 more weeks....ahhh..... :sunny:

P.S. I had a Back Scratcher in 2002 and I still use the bamboo back scratcher that came in it, I keep it in my desk drawer :earboy2:

Defintely try the ZOMBIE!! very tasty and very strong alcohol wise, believe it was brandy, 151, and rum with some fruit juices. 2 or 3 of those and you will be off to neverland!!!

Hi Rich...WOW! I'd like to get some of those for our Fireworks Cruise in December. Can that be arranged, do you know?

Oh! Oh! I've tried the Island Sunset! It's my favorite! I've had the Lapu Lapu (not my taste), the margarita, and one other, but the Island Sunset was great! :sunny:

When is the best time to request a specific building? Going in October and would love to stay in Tokelau.

Sure can, given enough money anything's possible on that cruise. ;)

I've gone into more detail about these drinks on my home page, "echo"ing what I've wrote here but also giving more information.

What a great thread! Thanks for this.

On our last 3 visits to WDW we've stayed at WL twice and BC once. Each time we requested, and got for free, a microwave in our room. It's really helpful to us to have this in the morning for kids breakfasts, etc.

Can you get these at the Poly? We stayed there in 2001, but I can't remember if we requested a microwave or not. I've also heard that microwaves aren't available at all resorts.

Does anyone know?

Thanks again for a great thread.
