Many thanks to all on this thread. i'm currently on page 36! :rotfl2: Working my way through and then will hit you all with my questions! :thumbsup2

Please let us know what gems or nuggets of info you mine from this thread that might have been missed.:goodvibes

I have a question I hope someone will be able to help with. We usually have stayed at POR since it is my wife and 3 girls (9,12,13) but the last time we were as far away from the main building as possible. When we booked for this year my wife booked POR again and started praying we would be closer this year....so I upgraded to Poly as a surprise for her (and for the youngest daughter who will turn 10 while we are there). The oldest two helped "plan" this. Which leads me to my question: What would be the worst possible building at the Poly? I've looked at Tikiman's site (fantastic) and can see most buildings are pretty close to the GCH, but when my wife realizes we are getting in line for Poly instead of POR at the airport, can I honestly say that the farthest we will be from the food court, bus stop and Monorail is less than 5 minutes? Thanks in advance for your help!

If you look back in the Posts, Tikiman(steve) walked from one end of the proprerty to the other with his camera running to get an accurate time. It was about 8 mnutes from the GF side of the Proerty to the TTC on the other.

Have fun,

Nothing is spread out at all. It does not take over 5 minutes to walk to the monorail from any room unless you are a snail.

Just posting to agree that the Polynesian is not NEARLY as spread out as POR and I don't think any building is inconvenient. That said, we really liked the FIJI building a LOT! Not as convenient to the pool or the main beach, but very convenient to the marina, boat to MK, and Great Ceremonial House. VERY. We were door-to-door from our room to the MK in less than 15 minutes on more than one occasion (and this usually included a stop for beverages from the Kona Coffee Stand.)

Thanks!
That was what I had hoped!
My oldest and I started to look at the longhouses and "choose" which one we wanted, and I could find good things about each! Some where closer to the GCH, some closer to the TTC, some the beach.... We just decided to not even worry about a building and just look at the good of whatever we get. (Kinda hopin' for a balcony though....)

We'll be staying there for the first time this coming Nov. I was having so much trouble deciding which longhouse that I didn't bother picking one (they all sound so good for various reasons!). So, in my reservation, I just had them put down that I would like a balcony or a patio - just don't want one of the 2nd floor rooms that have nothing. With 5 people in the room, it would be really nice to have more space - esp when the kids are sleeping & we can sneak outside & relax!!

I've wanted to stay at the poly since I was a little kid. We finally took the plunge and we booked a 9 day package at the poly for this September!

HI: Walking around the grounds of the poly is the reason we love it there. The view from the beach is pretty too. The grounds are so pretty, lush, and in the spring we saw baby ducks in the streams.

Bye,

Deb.

The bird life was pretty cool too. Taken on the Poly Beach...

So excited to find this- We just back from the WL and i think i want to try the POly next - but am trying to figure out if it is worth the extra money-

lindamomof3 - We're doing the same thing. Our last trip was to WL and we loved it so much we really wanted to try the Poly. So this September we'll know if it's really worth the extra splurge. :-)

We had a great room at the WL, 7th floor facing the MK, we could stand on the balcony at night and watch the castle change colors all night. We were there in September when it was pretty slow and the staff was super friendly, they made us feel like we were the only people there. I just hope that the Poly measures up to that.

I just spent two days reading all the posts in this thread (boy, are my eyes crossed! :rotfl2: ), and I just wanted to post to say how excited I am. As you can see from my siggy, I am a WDW vet. But, dh and I haven't stayed in a Deluxe resort since 1998 (the other Deluxes in my siggy are from business trips and girls-only trips where the room was being split by multiple people, and thus much more affordable).

Well, this summer, we can only go in August. Knowing it will be excrutiatingly (sp?) hot, I convinced him to stay at the Poly for the convenience of getting to MK and Epcot, as well as the multiple other things there are to do at the resort. I just booked it yesterday, and have already made one ADR for the Lilo & Stitch breakfast at 'Ohana. Based on what I've read here, and Tikiman's site, I've made a request for the Tokelau building, which I think will suit our needs best. I'm especially excited to hear that we will not have as much walking as we've had at POR in the past! Now, the countdown to August begins!!! :cool1:

I have my heart set on Poly for 2008. Sept. or Oct. I am not sure of the dates, that is why I haven't made the reservation. Though I'm not sure how far in advance they will even take them. Nor do I know if I'm going through the hotel or something online. I still have tons of homework to do. I have never been and it is overwhelming the information. The dining reservations, etc. Plus I want to use freqent flyer miles so need to get the airlines and hotel availability to work together. Plus I'm taking my family which consists of hubby, and two adult children with their families. Questions, when would I need to worry that the Poly wouldn't be available. Will need 3 rooms. And any suggestions on how to get the best deal would be appreicated. I do have AAA. I think I want the park hopper, dining plan as well. All suggestions welcomed and appreicated. Thank you all disney vetrans!

I am thinking of switching our reservation from CSR to Poly. I am going with two other girls and it will be about $500 more dollars EACH to stay there it looks like...I am fine with paying that since I beleive the luxury of the monorail and boat, and proximity to MK will be well worth it. I need to convince them! We have dinner reservations for Flying Fish at Boardwalk, Jiko at AKL, Coral Reef, Cali Grill, 1900 Park Fare, and horseback riding reservations at WL! I think having a monorail will make it easier to get to all of the above, but if you have a better idea for a place to stay let me know...otherwise help me convince my girlfriends! Thanks!
