*** The Official July 2014 thread, join us won't you? ***

Hi! It's great to see you here too!

We may have a while until our Disney trips, but counting down is so much fun, as is the planning! :cool1:

I drive my DH nuts with the planning and counting down. Every day since I made the reservations I log on and look at them shouting "I'm going to Disney World!" I told him it's just been too long since our last trip (July '11) and that if it annoys him that much we need to go more often.

DisneyMomFanatic you mentioned ADR's... we're planning our favorites (and by we I really do mean I LOL). Princess Storybook Breakfast (DD and I go here just for the breakfast potatoes), 1900 Park Faire, Chef Mickey (DH's favorite), Donald's Safari Breakfast (my favorite), O'Hana Best Friends Breakfast (DS's favorite), Mama Melrose (DD's favorite), Crystal Palace and then we're trying Whispering Canyon for the first time.

Okay, so I post many questions & lend feedback on these boards... But, this question is more for the cozy group we have going here! Here goes: last trip we did not do any breakfasts except a QS on checkout :) this trip I want to book Tusker & maybe one more.. So I have 3 boys who eat like grown men who LoVe food omg!! They also love all the thrill rides... Anyone get a bit nervous if their kids will, ummm well, get sick eating so much before they go on the rides?

My kids can put food away like nobody's business, and look like they don't eat at all, and we REALLY eat a lot on vacation, but have never had a problem with this issue. They have been fine on rock n roller coaster, tower of terror, space mountain, BTMR, and EE. I on the other hand, sometimes need to wait a little while, if you know what I mean. :crazy2: Kids don't seem to have that issue at all, any time of the day or night, go figure! :rolleyes1:confused3:rotfl2:

We've never had a problem. DD and I eat then go get on EE with no problems. I think if it's someone who normally gets nauseous on a thrill ride I might worry or if it's a really intense ride (motion wise) that we'd never been on I might be cautious.

Thanks DisneyMomFanatic & PhotoChick!!!! I figured as much :) gosh my boys can eat and eat and don't gain a pound... Must be nice!!!!!!!

Seriously, I watch him eat and gain like 5 lbs.??? What is that. Or we eat a complete meal (home cooked and all) and he has dessert then and 15 mins later he's all like, I'm hungry, what can I have to eat? HUH??? SMH... :confused3

I wish I knew... Mine will go thru a family size box of cereal in 2 days!?!?!? A gallon of milk lasts 3 days if I'm lucky! And snacks argh forget it... A box of granola bars gone in a day. Rack of Ribs, mashed potatoes, Caesar salad & green beans for example was Sundays dinner.. Dessert ice cream. 2 hrs later I hear my twins 13 up attacking the cereal..... Oh man!?!!

Hi again everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome from everybody. I love all the conversations going on here. What a nice group of people to be hanging out with on the boards while counting down.

One of the funniest things I see here is people whose sons eat so much and are always hungry. My sons are only 6 and 8 and already they're always saying they're hungry or still hungry! I can only imagine what I have to look forward to the next 10 years and beyond!

That said, my kids love going out to eat and they love Disney food. Some of our favorites (for the food) are Kona, Chefs de France, Biergarten, San Angel, Kouzzina. Can you tell we like different types of cuisines?! We also enjoy character meals. One favorite is Crystal Palace breakfast. Great food and atmosphere and nothing beats MK before it opens!!!

Having a great plan works in July. We like to mainly eat breakfast in the villa, and have a relaxing TS lunch in the parks by noon (we're rope drop people). We have done both CS and TS lunches and find they take roughly the same amount of time but the TS is more relaxing. We are DVC members and we get the Tables in Wonderland card. This gives us 20% off the bill at TS restaurants including alcohol. They add an 18% tip so I don't have to worry about figuring that in...less thinking on vacation! None of the dining plans fit into our personal plans...we eat more TS than CS but the deluxe plan is way more than we eat. We spend less by buying the TIW card, even when factoring in alcohol (we like wine with dinner!). So it works for us. But in order to qualify you have to be a Florida resident, an annual pass holder or a DVC member.

So shortly after our lunch we usually to back to the resort and either relax in the villa (we stay in a 1-bedroom) or go in the pool. Sometimes we go back to the park in the evening (always if it's Epcot for dinner!), and sometimes we just go to a resort for dinner.

We drive down from Brooklyn, NY. Today I booked our hotels for the trip down and the trip back! Rates were good and I wanted to secure them. I usually do it this early and it works out because most of the time the rates go up within a few months. I booked a Double Tree in Fayetteville, NC and a Fairfield Inn in Palm Coast, Fl for the trip down. And I booked a Hampton Inn in savannah, Ga and an Embassy Suites in Virginia near DC for the trip home. The only hotel out of these we've stayed at was the Fairfield Inn Palm Coast in 2010. Loved it there. We've stayed in Double Tree and Embassy Suites in other locations, love them! Never stayed in Hampton Inn but I've heard great things! :)

Thanks DisneyMomFanatic & PhotoChick!!!! I figured as much :) gosh my boys can eat and eat and don't gain a pound... Must be nice!!!!!!!

My 13 year old daughter eats more than a grown man. Though she dances 15 hours a week so she works it all off.

My 14 DS is forever eating. 2 years ago when he was in for his well visit, he had gained 23 lbs in a year. He went from 71 to 94 lbs (from 12yr to 13 yr old). When he went last month, he had only gained 9 lbs, much more in line but how he only gained 9lbs with all he eats is beyond me.

My DD (almost 11) weighs 69 lbs. She is always eating too, and stuff like carbs and stuff, but she does competitive gymnastics and just never stops.

My problem is I get tired just watching them and gain weight just seeing what they eat. How does that happen, old sucks!!! :lmao:

I know, seriously!!! I feel like if I walk into a bakery and inhale slightly, I gain 5 pounds!! I stay in my normal healthy weight range but I have to work very hard to do that...lifetime member of Weight Watchers and follow it perfectly (but I'm used to it for years so it's an everyday habit now), and I work out regularly (aerobics and also weights). We came off a cruise on July 28th (8-night cruise on Carnival)...I worked out in the gym every other day (elliptical or recumbent bike and weights), took the stairs everywhere instead of the elevator, did a ton of walking in general, but didn't follow a diet plan (I never do on vacation, it's my time to forget about it temporarily). I still gained 8 pounds! Haha...it's the cocktails and all the carbs that does it to me on vacation but still...I'm not as young as I used to be! It takes a little longer these days for vacation weight to completely come off, even though I go right back to Weight Watchers and my usual exercise routine as soon as I arrive home. :sad2:

My niece is gonna be 10 next month...she eats everything, and is constantly eating, and she is so thin. Still a healthy weight according to the doctor, but as my sister says, she grows vertically but stays the same width! :rotfl2: She is so lucky...my sister and I laugh and say she doesn't get those genes from us...we have to work hard!

My twins are 13.5 one is 5'9 145 lbs the other is 5'8" 110 (underweight) both eat and eat and eat like crazy! But, me if I lick the spoon I gain 6lbs. Go figure! We all love good food!

We all love good food too! Planning the WDW restaurants is more fun to me than planning the days at each theme park! :lmao:

In fact, any vacation we go on, I have to make sure there is good food available. I can't live on fast food for a week...sure, I can have it once in a while but not every single day. I'd be disappointed for sure!

Oh I have to agree! I'm already going over and over my ADRs. When we went in May my youngest ds was 9... The nightmare was he hates "kid food" and most CS we went was Tuna sandwich or nuggets or something similar. So I ended up eating his while he are my adult meal. The best though is in the restaurants watching all 3 able to order anything off the menu (at home I budget). Ds13 would order salmon and his twin filet mignon. It's pretty awesome!

I know what you mean! We just came off a Carnival cruise, and DS8 ate prime rib, NY Strip steak, and their signature chocolate melting cake for desserts several nights. Sure he enjoys a good pizza or burger, but he likes the grown up foods too. At Disney signature restaurants, he likes to be able to get steak! On the cruise, DS6 ate lobster tail (DS8 would have but he's allergic), frog's legs, tilapia, and shrimp burritos. Of course he had a side of chicken nuggets with his lobster :lmao: but he still likes to try new foods. :)

At home I enjoy cooking different things. They like steak, roasted chicken drumsticks, roasted baby carrots (we call them "carrot fries" ;) ), roasted pork tenderloin, and they absolutely love my meatballs and homemade sauce with pasta, although they prefer their pasta with garlic and olive oil, and their meatballs with my sauce. For school-aged kids, I think they have pretty sophisticated taste. They also love the good restaurants around here (we live in Brooklyn, NY)...I think I'm turning my kids into food snobs!! :rotfl2:

My boys still enjoy kids' food though. Sometimes they just want chicken fingers, pizza or a cheeseburger...but they prefer mozzarella cheese on their burgers. One time we took them to McDonald's (which we rarely do), and DS8 said he wanted a cheeseburger with mozzarella! :lmao:

I'm already looking at my ADRs also...and looking at the possible cost of everything, including the cost of the TIW card. I also budget in advance. I add everything up with the absolute cheapest items on the menus (to make sure the card is worth it, and to see if a dining plan is worth it but none of them ever fit into our plans), then one with the most expensive items on the menu, going the whole nine yards of apps and desserts, and then I do one with what we would realistically order at each. A tiny bit time consuming but I don't mind. Then I budget separately for alcohol since DH and I like to enjoy margaritas in Mexico, and sometimes wine with dinner. I also budget separately for snacks based on our normal WDW eating habits.

Bangzoom,

I so do the same thing. We have done the Deluxe Dining Plan 2 times already. Each time we knew it was going to be too much food, but to eat at as many TS places as we want, so we could all get what we want and not feel cheated or cheap, we got it. When I looked at it for this trip coming up, it would cost $2000 more than we can realistically afford. So we listed where we want to eat on what days and I basically figured if we do 2 apps, an entrée each and 2 desserts to share, we can still get enough food (and great food at that in great places) to eat.

Our last trip in 2012, DD was a month shy of 10 yrs old, so technically she was still a Disney child, but she didn't want "kid" food. So, we sucked it up and paid adult prices for her tickets and food (Deluxe meals). She was so happy getting adult food and whatever she wanted. Her newest love was mussels, no matter how they were prepared. She let me try some, and I found that I liked them (I never knew I did...) So, since the DxDP is too expensive this trip, we don't qualify for the TIW card, and we still want to eat lots of TS and great food, we found a way to get us all what we want. Now we just have to get through the next 11 months. UGH!!! :rotfl2:

***By the way, I LOVE THIS GROUP! YOU GUYS ARE GREAT AND WE HAVE AN AWESOME MONTH!!!!!***

Oh my gosh! That cruise sounds amazing!!!! I work all week so my poor kids get frozen food that my mom heats up with maybe a roasted chicken thrown in once a week. So on weekends I go crazy ~ make seafood or steak. I try different things like Thai & Spanish foods. This weekend my ds13 wants to cook so I got all the stuff for him to make a sauce... We will see what happens!
We do the basic dining plan w/one TS per day. I would love to do the deluxe but man thats expensive!!
* I want to do a signature on our July trip & thinking if we do the week of the 4th that might be a good time to try Narcosees! Thinking my boys would love the lobster :)
BTW- I love how your DS ordered a burger w/mozzarella!!! Hahahaha!!!!

OMG !!! All this talk about food. You guys are making me hungry. :lmao:

My DD and I are Steak people...111 Heat Index today in DFW Texas in the shade...:beach:

That's great that you found a way to enjoy some great TS restaurants and be able to budget for it. We can't afford the deluxe dining plan, and I don't think we ever will be able to, since it seems to go up in price annually. But I feel like it's too much food for us, because I don't think we would order an app, entree and dessert for each person. I feel like we would feel forced to order all that food even if we don't eat it. However, if we were planning to dine at several signatures, it would be worth it because those restaurants have a nice variety of unique and delicious appetizers, and they have nice dessert menus as well. We did 2 signatures last year (California Grill and Yachtsman Steakhouse). We ordered apps at both of them but then we were too full for dessert so we waited until later in the evening and had some treats from BW Bakery. Sometimes we do it that way...dinner at a TS and then dessert later (either from BW Bakery or we get ice cream) so we're not too stuffed. Yet, I had no problem eating as much as I did on the cruise we just took! Different mindset on a cruise I suppose, since there's food everywhere! :lmao:

DH and I feel like the years are going so fast because on our first WDW trip, the boys were only 1 and 3! This upcoming trip is our 4th family trip, and they will be 7 and 9 when we go! The last time my older one will be considered a child at WDW!!! After that we will be getting 3 adult tickets and 1 child ticket for one trip, and then 4 adult tickets every time. They're getting so big, it's going too fast! :scared:

I really love this group too!! Nice bunch of people, and seems like we have a lot in common!

Oh yes, the cruise was very nice. I have been on 15 cruises altogether (but never on Disney Cruise Line...too expensive for us compared to other cruise lines), and I love them!! My 2 favorite vacations are cruises and WDW! :)

During the school year when I'm working full time, I make quicker dinners. I'm lucky because I work until 2:50pm, but I also work late a lot in the winter (I run one of the shows at my school), many days until 6 or 7, and a few days as late as 11:30pm...and my work day begins at 8am (but I get there by 7:30). Long days! I love to use my slow cooker during that busy time of the year! I cook a lot of different things in there in the winter...meatballs and sauce; BBQ pulled pork; lamb shanks; chicken on the bone; etc. I set up the ingredients in the slow cooker liner the night before and put it in the fridge. I leave myself a note on the table where I eat breakfast to remember to turn the slow cooker on in the morning...and I turn it on when I get downstairs...dinner is ready on time even on my late days! When we have family over sometimes I use the slow cooker to make this delicious chocolate mud cake (like lava cake, but a huge one for everyone!), and I serve it with vanilla ice cream and homemade whipped cream. It's very easy to make and delicious!

It's funny your DS is interested in cooking...my DS8 has been saying he wants to be a chef since he was 3 years old! Of course, now it has grown to wanting to open his own restaurant someday...and sometimes he says he wants to open a resort and restaurant! :thumbsup2

When we went to California Grill and Yachtsman last year, we felt they were both well worth the cost of a signature restaurant. We're returning to Yachtsman next year, and planning to try Flying Fish as well. Their menu looks fantastic! I have never eaten at Narcoosee's but it looks very good as well. And it's always nice to eat in the Grand Floridian!

I feel bad for any newbies coming over here... They might get scared they entered the over eaters thread hahahaha!!!!!!!
I'm scared of a slow cooker! But, you make it sound fantastic. I'm scared that my kids will start playing with it and the house will burn down.... Hmmm... Thinking about it now!!!
Yes, ds13 has been wanting to be a chef since he was 5. He has such a funny personality I think he would be great. Next yr he will be in HS (as well as his twin) so we need to think about whether to put him in a vocational school as they have a program for that. He wants to own a restaurant as well, but I would like to see him work at a resort or great restaurant. We shall see. It's funny how some kids just seem to know what they want.
Gosh, you have a rough schedule but you seem alot more on top of things than I am! :) but, the possibilities are endless now that I'm thinking of that slow cooker!!!!!
I too was looking at Flying Fish. But, a great view of wishes won it for me w/Narcosees since I'm too wimpy to brave MK on the 4th!!!
YES.... We do have a fine group hanging out here on the July board :) :)
