The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

So I know that last year the Osbourne Lights were on. Anyone confirm that they will be this year?? I would be super disappointed if we got there and they were off.

They are turning them on just for us.... On November 8 --- off January 5 (sorry marathon folks)

I have not seen the cat, but am aware that there is a cat in the lights. I usually hear of the cat after I leave or after the lights are extinguished. Gives me an idea for this weekend's discovery... Most lights are up just waiting for the switch. Give me a chance to say hey to a neighbor I met the other day who is a CM at Hollywood and Vine.

Oh my word I am so thrilled and had to share my excitement with you guys *** I know you'll understand! I ran 11miles this morning! 1hr 30 and it didn't feel too horrendous! After having a terrible build up with health issues I can't believe I can actually do this race! Whooooo! I strapped my ITB and this REALLY helped.

Now for the question- does anyone have an elevation chart for the half? Any garmin people download it? I've searched and can't find one. I've really found it useful to visualise courses in the past and there was a brilliantly detailed description of WDW full online but can't find w&d :(

Last long run weekend everyone!!!!! Have an awesome time!!!!!!!!

Last long run weekend everyone!!!!! Have an awesome time!!!!!!!!

It's flat for the most part.

We traverse 5 overpasses and go up one ramp. The overpasses are at miles 1.3 , 1.9, 6.6, 7.2 and 7.5. The ramp is at 8.8. Note that these are highway overpasses so there is really little effort to top them. There are two Friendship Boat overpasses in the Yacht and Beach Club area that are probably the steepest inclines on course but very short. These are at miles 11.8 and 12.1. Inside the parks there are also ‘hills’ You really do not feel these while walking the parks but be aware that just after passing the gates of DAK and as you pass the fountain in Epcot you will find yourself on a rise. Oh, and in DHS, there are several small little hills while on stage.

The general topography for WDW is flat. The course passes a creek the second overpass (also the Buena Vista or AllStars exit). That is the low point of the course. In general, the non-overpass elevation remains within 20 feet of the start elevation.

One final thought on the course. I find that Disney has done a much better job of lighting the course. The first year, light towers were haphazardly aimed so there were a few in the runners eyes. I still would expect the DAK paths to be dark feeling. It is difficult to put in enough lighting and that couples with the irregular surface of the park make this park footing feel a little treacherous (anyway that is the thoughts floating in my little brain while running in DAK).

DH and I pulled off just under 12.4 today (or 11.4 if you go by my phone) in 2 hours and 1 minute. It didn't feel as good for me as our last 12+ but we did it, and that last one felt great so it would be hard to match that. I did get some pull in my foot, like in the boney area then around the ankle and up the back of the heel. That was new to me. It didn't hurt when I walked only when I ran. So, I'm putting some ice on it now and just trying to take it easy.

I can't believe we are down to 2 weeks!!!! :cool1:

Camcolt that is an awesome run and very cool that you've managed to do 12 twice!

Coach- thank you so much, that is exactly what I was looking for! Your help and guidance on here is outstanding! :D

I did 6 yesterday at around a 12:30 pace. I'm pretty happy with that. My last few runs (around 5-6 miles) have been harder than normal. I think it is because of the cold weather. In the summer/warmer weather, my legs would start to complain at me around mile 9. Now that the colder weather is here, I'm starting to have soreness around mile 5. I haven't really changed anything in regards to my pacing, stretching, schedule or anything. The only change I've noted is the weather...it's cold!

I've been running 10 minute intervals (instead of 8) for my longer runs now too and I think it is a little easier from the cardiovascular standpoint. I'm still doing a 12:30/mile pace, but I find that my pace is a lot steadier during the run portion. I am still planning on doing 8-minute run intervals for the race so I hope it will seem easier.

I got myself all packed up today:cool1:. I will have just a few last-minute items (like the bagels and bread that we buy from the bakery outlet) that need to be purchased and packed, but other than that, I think I am good to go. Obviously, I will take out my shoes and gear for the runs I need to do in the next week, but at least I know everything fits. The hubby? Well, let's see...our flight leaves at 2:45, we live 15 minutes from the airport and our ride is picking us up at 1:15, plus we have to drop off the dogs at 10am...so he will start packing around noon:lmao:

Congrats Camcolt, Kristen, & Smiley on your runs today! We are sooo close now! :)

I did my last long run today...I ran a Half Marathon!!! 13.11m in 2:13:23...so excited about reaching my goal & it gives me confidence for W&D.

I planned on a dress rehearsal in my red running tank, sparkle skirt, & minnie ears/visor but it was 37 degrees here in south Jersey, so I went for the cold gear instead. ;). Knee held out good too-I'll probably wear the brace for W&D since it seems to offer good support.

Happy running y'all!

DH and I are about to hit the trails for 11 miles. I'm "dress rehearsing" too although it's just a new t-shirt and capris.

We're going to start with 4 minutes and maybe dial back to 3 about halfway through. I just concentrate on the interval at hand and not worry about what's coming next or how many miles I have left. It's like the approach to eating an elephant.....

One Galloway interval at a time!

Sounds like everyone is getting their last long runs in :cool1:

For those who are running their first marathon (yes I know its a half marathon but trust me, folks who do not run will never hear the word half) play it easy the week before the race. Your goal is to make sure you are practicing what you trained and stay on on top of your hydration. Airplanes will zap hydration levels as will being out and about in the parks. Keep a bottled water with you and keep working on it.

On race night, it will be all too easy to push go and run way too fast in the first mile. Practice what you have trained in the last 5-8 hours coming into the race. As you come up to the line, take care and keep a buffer in front of you. Take a deep breath and smile. Watch you pace and enjoy the ride. One of the neat things about night running is that landmarks seem so much closer. You will not have the 'boredom' of seeing landmarks move by slowly. Hydrate as you trained and before long you will be a member of the club!

I road for 155 minutes on the cycle trainer this morning. Holy CR49! While there was little pounding I am feeling the effort since getting off the cycle. Glad that I am in with a doc this week. I am 90% certain that I am not running the race. The only way I would even think of it would be if I get a cortisone shot and it works well enough to get me on the road. Even then, the smart play may be one of running the 5k and reserving the effort for the January streak. Stand by for Pixie Dust on Thursday morning.

A ton of pixie dust is headed your way coach! I'll send it now so it gets across the Atlantic by then :) really hope it eases off for you!

I hit 10.2 miles today! My back felt great! No tightening or anything. Did some stretches every three miles, and then did some planks at the end. Felt great!

Just finished my last long run. I got in 11 miles. It was awful, first time on a treadmill, I just couldn't get the hang of it and intervals were just impossible! Thank goodness I only had to do one long run in the treadmill. Now I know why everyone calls it the dreadmill!
Pixie dust being sent your way Coach!
See everyone really soon!
Melinda

Last long run today of 13 miles. Feeling good. We are feeling some cooler temps (e.g. mid-60's) here in Central Florida, but it is not expected to last. Send another cold front our way!!!

Oh, Man...I really hope I can get another long (9-11 miles) run in before we leave. It's not looking good from a scheduling perspective...

...Tomorrow: Hubby works and doesn't get home until 6; NO way kids will let me go out for 2.5 hours to run.
...Monday: Work
...Tuesday: Dog has vet appointment at 10am (30 minutes away from home) and a mandatory meeting at work at 2:30pm...nowhere to squeeze in 2:30 of run plus warm-up/cool-down/clean up
...Wednesday: Work
...Thursday: My ONLY opportunity this weel:cool1: Hopefully it doesn't rain or snow! Of course, it will because it is Halloween:rolleyes2
...Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday: WORK:sad:
...Tuesday: Final day to prepare and pack, hubby works all day and I have to go to P/T conferences that night.
..Wednesday: Kids on the bus at 7:10am:sad:...dogs to kennel at 10...ride to airport shows up at 1...flight leaves at 2:45pm:banana:.

I feel like I need to squeeze in a short (<4 miles) run on either Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning after we put the kids on the bus. I just don't think it is a good idea to run and then fly later in the afternoon. I think I will be fine since it is only a 2 1/2 hour flight. In the summer, I would get up before work and run 3-4 miles and then go sit in an ambulance for 12 hours so I don't think that would be any worse than flying right?

Half marathon "training race" in the morning. Looks like showers/thunderstorms in the morning. I might get very wet, or we might not be able to run at all
