We stayed at Regal Palms April 15th to April 23rd. This place is a little further out than the other disney area places but we liked it. The main pool with lazy river was nice and our 2 boys 11 & 13 loved it. We did Disney twice, 2006 & 2009. We stayed at Carribean Beach and Port Orleans on those visits. We were used to the meal plan and Disney transportation which was very relaxing...no hassles to find a place to eat or driving around orlando.
This visit at Regal Palms we rented a car and checked out Universal, Islands of adventure, Busch Gardens, and Aquatica. We had a great time because we have seen and done the Disney stuff. The boys were ready for more thrill type attractions and we were non stop busy. So busy that with the parks and the driving I felt beat by the 4th day. Anyhow, we all agreed that we now like the pool home as apposed to a motel (if your staying off disney property) It was roomy and the three bedroom poolhome was awesome to come back to after the parks. The Orlando flex ticket was well worth it as well.
Negatives: The rental car ended up having alot of fees that we were not aware of until we returned from our vacation. Get an itemized bill at the beginning if you can. We would probably try to stay a little closer to the park area if we did it all again. Orange Lake Resort or closer.
I heard the question asked on dis about how many days to do the parks and I would say its too hard to predict. Of the four of us each person was different on which park we wanted to go back to for a second day. We did all agree on going back to Busch Gardens for a second day. We also decided to go back to Islands of Adenture and Universal just to do the wet rides. Four rides between the two parks get you saturated so we went back a second day dressed appropriately to get wet.....really fun. Oh one more note, the Harry Potter area was a madhouse so get there early.
Our next vacation will be more my speed.... no parks or standing in lines. Maybe hang out at the beach for some relaxing...snorkeling or an occasional kayak trip. Carribean!!!

glad you had a good time - despite the parks.

waiting a few years to go see Harry potter at IOA - hoping then some of the lines will be down. Or staying onsite at a Universal hotel for their fole.

yea for a non-disney trip staying in Polk county would not work very well - now for Bush Gardens and Legoland - it would be great.

but for US/IOA and Seaworld not so much

Glad to hear that you liked Regal Palms ~ we will be there in a few weeks and haven't seen many reviews.

Glad to hear you liked Regal Palms too. We stayed there 5 years ago and had a blast a the pool. We only did Sea World and one day at MK that year and just relaxed the rest of the time. Since, that vacation we have stayed in homes with our own private pool, but we would stay there again if the price was right.
