We had a bit of a disaster day today! We were up today at 6:45am, got ready and had breakfast as usual then waited for the bus, which was coming at 8am. The bus that is used for the Kennedy Space Centre tours picked us up, its windows were painted to look as if the bus was full of astronauts!! We had to switch buses at the meeting point, which was crossroads at LBV. Our driver for Daytona was called Ed, he was very funny and through the journey he told us lots of interesting things about places around us and also things about where we were going. The journey took about an hour. Ed dropped us off beside the Hilton hotel giving us instructions on how to get inside and use their bathrooms if we wanted to!! It was 10am and he said he would return to pick us up at 2pm. Ed warned us all about getting burnt as it was very easily done especially on the beach. It was very hot!! I expected to have a nice sea breeze to cool you down, but even the breeze was hot! So we had a wander to the pier and then came back to the shopping centre where we had started off. What we should have done was go further down the beach, past the pier as there were plenty more things to do and see down there.

The shopping centre only had a couple of shops, it seemed to be getting refurbished. We went into Planet Smoothie and had a twig and berry smoothie (strawberry, banana and yoghurt) this was gorgeous mental note to invest in a smoothie maker back at home. We spent the rest of the time just wandering about. We didnt enjoy this but it might have been better if wed have found stuff to see and do!! Even considered going to a timeshare meeting to put an hour or so in!!
Lunch was at Burger King, this was where we would be picked up from at 2 so we stayed near. Once we were picked up it was on to Daytona speedway.
None of us are race fans but DS likes fast cars. This place was enormous, they can fit 200,000 people in there when the racing is on, and they even have a campsite inside the stadium for the racers and their families to use! The stadium tour stopped off by the trackside, there were cars going round the track and this was offered to everyone the Richard Petty driving experience. For $143 a race car driver took you round the course for 3 laps as a passenger. We asked DS if he wanted to do this (thought he would jump at the chance) and he didnt seem keen (?). Never mind we said, have a think and if you change your mind let us know. We went back to the building where there was a kind of museum with race memorabilia, a shop, and Imax theatre and an interactive area. DS and I went on the race car simulator ride. There were 7 replica race cars set up, each with a big screen in front. You raced the cars round the virtual Daytona track, the cars tilted, turned and shook in time with the action so you felt as though you were in a real car!

We missed the Imax film because of being on the simulators. DH and DS went back on the simulators and then DS decided he would like to do the driving experience we had seen earlier. By now it was 4:50 and we were being picked up at 5:30 so I went to the desk to pay for it, only to be told that the driving experiences were finished for today. DS was devastated, he kicked himself the rest of the day why didnt I do it when I had the chance it was a chance of a lifetime and Ive missed it stupid me!
He likened the feeling to me always wanting to swim with dolphins, going to Discovery cove and then being told sorry you cant do it! Little does he know we are going to try and book the trip again so that he can get to do his dream thing and we can see the Imax film.
When we got back to the hotel we didnt bother with a meal tonight, as we were all too tired, we fell asleep about 9!!
We missed stuff to do at Daytona Beach, Ds missed the driving experience, we missed the Imax film and we missed our dinner out again!! Just how much stuff could we miss in one day?
