The news

So I was looking through the news today and noticed I have come to a point where I won't even read stuff out there that irritates me. If the headlines seem to smack of something off center, or of a figure I have grown disgusted with, I refuse to look. I won't even give the idea my 'vote in a click' to keep it relevant. Not too long ago I would read everything but I feel so overwhelmed with blatant childish spin that I am opting out of even giving them my ear (or eye) as it is.

Every once in a while I read how the major new outlets don't get why they aren't credible anymore... they can't be serious.

So is anyone out there as jaded and cynical as I am right here, now, today?

You are not alone. I now scan the paper and I only read things I want to. I am so jaded its sad. I read and watch just enough to stay relevant, but I refuse to get involved with the issues.

This is coming from a person who just a few years ago read all the news magazines, watched all the news shows and read several newspapers daily. I gave up the local news several years ago and will only watch when we are having weather issues.

I use to know all the player and could spout all the facts and figures. Now I just don't care.

I have even become jaded about local issues. We had a huge school issue last year. I went to all the meeting. At the last minute a group of people who didn't attend the meetings came in and made the final decision which was a bad one. I feel like I wasted 4 months of my life doing something I thought was important only to be shot down again.

I don't even consider those shows that think they impart news as actually being news.

What we get is each individual station's spin on what they want us to know & how they want us to know it and what they want us to think based onhow they "report". There are no facts presented...it is speculation & editorialization. It's not news.

I'm not completely sure I understand what it is you object to, but there is an awful lot of celebrity news about people I don't even recognize.
There are also many news commentary shows that don't really interest me either.

Also on the subject of news, local tv news has become unwatchable for me.
It's the same old stuff all the time, and they load so many commercials in a half hour it's ridiculous.

No derailing going on. I'm not going anywhere with this... there is no where to take it anywhere is there? I'm just thinking out loud about what was once a cornerstone in our lives.

I was just thinking about how far the practical application of journalism has drifted from the 'ideal'. I mean, most of us grew up in a time when journalistic integrity was something to be respected. The news was made up of men and women who would 'get the story' no matter what. I remember that when I was a kid people would go to jail rater than reveal the 'source' on something relevant... they were our watchdogs.

Now this is no longer the case. These days the big houses that used to be the epitome of impartial delivery not only slant everything until its a vile caricature of truth but even seem to pick and choose what stories they will even cover based on their end-game. As a result we, I, am left to splinter through a fractured news delivery forum where talent is few and far between and I have to depend on bloggers to highlight the best from amongst the noise.

I wish I could find a news outlet that would just tell the story and let me and my own little mind, meager though it may be, draw my own conclusions.

It just makes me so sad, its the end of an era

just reading this thread makes me sad. I don't watch much news anymore, so much of it seems ridiculous to me. The things that they focus on..... I just don't understand.
