I just thought I'd post an update on the status of my freshly washed Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote. After 2 days of drying and a new battery she is good to go once again.

I don't recommend using bleach to get any stains out on the Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote and I definitely wouldn't use the dryer, as the heat, not the humidity seems to be the real killer.

Usually I 'prefer' to 'wash' my lens caps inadvertently.

For this occasion my Alzheimer's decided it was time for something different in the "What are we going to find in the washer/dryer that shouldn't be there" sweepstakes.

What are some of the more memorable photography related "oops" you've experienced with the washer/dryer?

I've washed rolls of film a time or two and the most heinous thing of all time was the time I washed a sharpie marker that I used for numbering my rolls of film. I'm still not over that one....... :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Let's hear those photography laundry horror stories people! Anyone washed a point and shoot camera? I'm sure someone out there has managed to do that!

Not exactly photography-related, but I washed a thumb-drive once. Let it dry out for a couple of days and it was as good as new! There was nothing of value on it of course, I'm sure the results wouldn't have been as good if there was irreplaceable data or pictures on there....

My teenage son washed his camera phone.

Lucky for me my dSLR doesn't fit into my pocket or I'm sure I would have done the same thing by now.

Didn't wash anything as of yet but I once inadvertently dropped my external flash in a river. Well, actually it bounced down a hill and fell in the river. I got it quick, pulled the batteries, poured out the water, opened it all up and dried it out for a couple days. All good. No problems at all except for a few scratches on the exterior.

I washed my cell phone and it still worked. It was the fall in the cup of Coke that killed it.

I haven't washed anything electronic yet- plenty of chapsticks tho. DD dropped her cell phone in the toilet at the Contemporary a few weeks ago- we took it apart and let it dry. Still works fine. 2 years ago she got one of my phones a little wet on a log flume and it died 2 days later. Both are/were camera phones. My laptop drank a full glass of apple juice a few years ago. I turned it upside down to drain the liquid from the keyboard. It survived and is still going. Some of the keys still stick to this day even after I took it apart and cleaned it.

I washed a CF card once- it worked fine after but I got the pictures off it and tossed it. I figure it was just a matter of time before it failed on me and then I'd be kicking myself.

Ha ha! My great uncle (85) who is in a nursing home washed his Olympus point and shoot camera just about a month and a half ago! He loves gadgets and he is has always had a camera in his hand. He left it in his pocket and the laundry service found it in the washer. My dad brought home and let it dry out a little. He was able to download all the pictures off the memory card right away. The camera wasn't as fast to jump back. They left it sit on the counter to dry and whenever anyone would walk byt they would pick it up and see if they could get it to work. It finally started turning on, but the buttons wouldn't do anything. Eventually they started working, but we could get it to take a pictures. Then one evening my DH picked it to "play" with it and my mom made a face at him when he tried to take a picture and it took a REALLY NICE picture! It has been working since then.

They have washed a couple of his checkbooks and who knows what else. They should check old people's pockets they are forgetful...

My son has wash his jump drive several times. When it dries out it still works.

Not photography related, but I wash my keyboard all the time, intentionally. I unplug it and run it under water and then let it dry for a few days and presto! It ends up reeeeally nice and clean and as long as you let it dry before plugging it back in you won't have any trouble. :thumbsup2

I haven't washed or dried anything photography gear related other than a few lens caps, but I used to have a very bad habit of sticking pens in the back pocket of my jeans because I was constantly searching for a pen while I was working in my shop. I had to stop that habit when I started using gel pens .. if you stick those in your pocket and don't retract the point the material of your pants will suck the ink right out of the pen. :sad2: For a long time all my work jeans had a big blue spot on the right rear pocket. Gel pens don't do well in the dryer either. Between the heat and the tumbling, the ink flies right out of them and ruins everything in that load.

Man....I thought check washing was illegal! :lmao:

That's called "money laundering".:lmao:

A pen managed to make it into our dryer with a load of white clothes a few months ago. A bunch of my dress shirts, towels, etc. got ruined. The dryer tub has streaks and blobs of stain, but at least it's not coming off.
