I keep checking the swandolphin website to see what Easter activities they will have around the resort and they haven't posted anything, so I called today and got some great information! The festivities will begin on Friday and go all the way through Sunday night: Here's some of the highlights: Campfire on the beach with smores kits nightly, glow in the dark easter egg hunt on Friday night, then two beach easter egg hunts on Easter Sunday, Easter bunny will deliver a basket to your room, glow in the dark volleyball, and of course pool activities, hair wraps/braids, arts and crafts, etc. 33 more days to go! :goodvibes:cool1::banana::woohoo::yay::cheer2: If anyone wants specific days and times of the event, I'll be happy to post with more info.

Thanks so much for posting!!! I am SO excited!! We are driving down and plan to arrive on Sunday morning (early) so we are taking it easy at the parks and would LOVE to take part in these activities on Sunday...now I am tempted to come in a day earlier! :)
Do you have dates/time specifics? Thanks again for sharing! :thumbsup2

What are the Food and Wine activities at the Swan and Dolphin? This is the first I've heard of it and I'm excited because we're going to be there during the F & W festival and staying at the Dolphin!

Here's the information about the Food & Wine festival at Swan & Dolphin. It's only one weekend - Oct 7 & 8. Last year was the first year and I missed it by a day! :upsidedow

HTHs! :)

I am seriously flip flopping here. I am currently booked at the BC for May, but I keep looking and a resort view room at the Dolphin is about $700 cheaper for my stay than the BC is. We don't rent a car when we go, however. Can anyone tell me how much the cab ride from the airport to the Swan/Dolphin is? There are 3 of us.

A cab from MCO to S/D is between $63-65 plus tip one way.

There is also a Mears shuttle (I took it for the 1st time last week & it was SUPER easy & convenient) -it's about $39 round trip, per adult (less for kids). It took longer than a cab which would take you to the resort directly, but it wasn't bad. I shared the van with 8 others & we made 2 offsite stops prior to The Swan. I was checking in 1 hour after landing.

You can also get a town car service for about $120 round trip.

I agree with with Tara that the a Mears shuttle is the way to go with 3 people. Roundtrip you are looking at $34 per adult, $27 for children 4-11 and free for 3 and under. The only advantages I see with a cab is speed and the ability to make a stop if needed. Also, not renting a car will work to your advantage because the s/d charges $10+ a day for parking.

We are currently undecided between the shuttle or reserving a van, but leaning twards the van. The van is actually $4 cheaper before tip, has a complementary grocery stop and we get to see someone holding up a plaque with our last name on it :thumbsup2.

Tara, enjoy your second trip and hope the crowds are better for you. Sounds like allot of fun, except for the thought of packing for 2 vacations in 3 weeks.:scared1:

I don't know...when comparing the price of 2 adults and a child on Mears, it comes out to $95 R/T. (I'm not sure of the etiquette of tipping when it comes to shuttle van drivers.)

For $9 more (plus tip), you can have a town car service drive you directly to the S/D, without having to make stops at additional hotels. Plus, the driver will meet you at baggage claim and help you with your luggage. And then there's also the free grocery stop, if you so desire.

Given all that, I think the town car route is the way to go. And it is your vacation, after all...you can splurge on the town car and still know that you're saving hundreds of $$! :cool2:

Sidebar: TaraPA I just saw your photos- and that was an Executive suite correct?

Jenn

Yes that was a 2BR Executive Suite. You can also get a 1BR Executive Suite. I have no idea what the difference is between that & a Grand Suite! Sorry!

It's only for 2 days Friday and Saturday in October. Last year was the first year and it was amazing! We went to 2 seminars (one each night) one was Wine Mixology where we mixed our own red wine the other one was a champagne seminar. When it was over we went outside to the causeway and sampled food and wines from all of the Swan and Dolphin restaraunts including bluezoo and Shula's. We tried everything from wonderful desserts (make your own ice cream sandwiches) to interesting drinks (dipping dots vodka) to mini steaks.
It was such a great experience that we actually booked a room for this year before we left now that we are bringing more people we need more space hence the suites!

I forgot to mention this when I called yesterday the resort fee is now $11.25 per day

To cut a very long story I was originally booked to stay at the Swan for my complete stay (8 nights), but when I started costing things properly (I'm from the UK) it worked out price wise more cost effective to stay at the Beach Club (seriously, I couldn't believe it!) as Disney UK are offering free dining for my dates.

For my last 3 nights I'm moving resort and I've currently got 2 reservations as I'm seriously torn - the first at the Swan, and the second reservation at the Poly (club level), as I'm thinking of attending MVMCP, but the more I'm thinking about things I feel the Swan will be a more relaxing and 'subdued' experience, rather than trying to relax in a club level lounge which feels more like a cafeteria.

So, cost implications aside, I just can't decide between opting for the Swan (and those wonderful beds) which I feel will be less frenetic and therefore more relaxing, or do I go with the Polynesian which will be close to MK for MVMCP. AKL was also in the picture but that's now been firmly discounted lol

I'd be interested to hear peoples thoughts on this please, based on an adult perspective.

Many thanks :goodvibes

For the additional price paid at the Polynesian concierge I think you get very little additional, not money well spent, unless you have money to burn (you did say, cost implications aside . We were comped Polynesian concierge once, and, though nice, if I had been paying for the added cost, I would have been disappointed with there added benefits. Location at the Swan is highly desirable.

Thanks Dan, appreciate your opinion. I think I've already decided that I just don't want to throw more money at Disney lol, and having the mandara spa so close is of course another added benefit :)

I agree with you, Dan. Swan is so relaxing and tranquil! :cloud9:

We paid for Poly CL once....... it was OK, but definitely not worth the extra $$$$ (but that's just my family's opinion!).

We have used Tiffany Town Car service for our last 5 trips. I just reserved again for our July trip. We have never had a problem with their service. Like SingingMom, I prefer to be driven right to the resort - can't waste a second of our Disney time...:). Plus, seeing the driver waiting for you at the bottom of the escalator is fun. For the 3 of us, the price of the town car is comparable to Mears buses/vans per person charge.

I'm glad to hear you've had such good experiences with Tiffany Town Car. We have a reservation with them for a 3-leg trip in June: MCO-Dolphin-Port Canaveral-MCO. Even though there are just 2 of us, it worked out to be more economical than renting a car, and a whole-lot less hassle!:thumbsup2

While I hate to be the one to disagree, I have to say that our many years at the Polynesian CL have been the best vacations ever. We have enjoyed every one of our stays there each year since 1994 or so. We became friendly and recognized on sight by many of the CL CMs and enjoy our visits with them each year.

That said, we will be spending our first ever vacation at a non-Disney owned hotel (Dolphin) in October. Disney has simply out-priced our willingness to pay for the service. I am ambivalent about our plans for October, but hoping for the best from the Dolphin. Since our focus will be on EPCOT and we are traveling with a couple who stayed at Swan last year while we were ensconced at BC, we were convinced by them to give the Dolphin a go. The price was the deciding factor since the other couple was unwilling to pay the price of BC and we were a bit put off by it as well.

The ambivalence for me is that I love the Polynesian and the ambiance it offers. It is by far the best resort for a laid back and relaxing vacation. We have gone to Disney so many times the parks are not the end all be all of our trip and we enjoy the pace of the Polynesian. We are early morning park goers and enjoy our afternoons around the pool. If we choose to go back to a park in the evening--we go--if not, we are thrilled to hang around the Polynesian and wander the property or walk to GF for a cocktail; perhaps take a boat to MK and go to WL or monorail to Contemporary. So many options. We have always taken full advantage of all the amenities and services offered.

We have enjoyed our stays at BC, YC, or BWI, (and the CL services at each) but primarily because of the proximity to EPCOT. To have the access at the International Gateway and the easy out after Illuminations can't be beat--not even by the Polynesian. While we have enjoyed our stays at these resorts, I can't say we truly loved the Boardwalk area resorts as much as the Polynesian property. Don't get me wrong, it is pleasant enough at the EPCOT area resorts, but there is just something at the Polynesian that appeals to us. A comfort level that we haven't felt at the EPCOT resorts.

I am going in October with an open mind and knowing that we will spend the bulk of our time at F&W Festival. The minimal additional walk to Dolphin far outweighs the major difference in price we would be paying at BC, YC, or BWI. I am really hoping that Ron and I  the Dolphin as many folks on this thread have professed.

Long story short--you have to make the best decision for your family and your vacation. If money is not a problem--perhaps split your stay and decide for yourself. Stay at Polynesian CL for the days you would visit MK and the AK or water parks and spend some time at Swan or Dolphin for the days where your focus will be on EPCOT and DHS. If, like us, you have done Disney before and know your vacation will be more EPCOT/DHS centric--stay the entire time at Swan/Dolphin.

I totally hear you with the thought that you don't want to throw more money at Disney than need be. One thing that has my knickers in a knot with the Dolphin is that we have to make ADRs one day at a time from 180 days out. I am so used to having a CL CM make my ADRs with no worries. This year we will be stressing one day at a time to make those coveted table service ADRs. :rotfl2: Frankly, my husband and I could care less about table service dining with F&W in full swing, but our traveling companions want more "table time". :lmao:

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful time planning and traveling! :woohoo:

I do understand your dismay with Disney prices. We have never stayed at any of the MK resorts, so I don't speak from experience, but as a teacher, the discounts offered to us at the S/D are excellent. Location is excellent, and for us, the relaxation is paramount.

As you mentioned about the Poly CM's, a number of the Dolphin CM's have become friends over the past 10 yrs, and we love the great customer service the S/D staffs provide.

I hope your stay at the Dolphin is wonderful.

HTHs! :)

I'll be on my honeymoon at that time!

I am seriously in the process of planning our honeymoon now, and after a week in the Caribbean, we'll be heading to Disney! We're having a heck of a time picking a place to stay, but I have to say, since our reception is at a Westin hotel near our house, we are seriously leaning towards the Swan since we'll be getting all of the points for our reception! Add onto that the fact that the S/D will be having their own food and wine festival in addition to EPCOT's, it looks we'll be back at the Swan!

My fiancee and I had stayed at the Swan two years ago and loved it. We also stayed at the POP and the Wilderness Lodge last year and enjoyed that as well. I was kinda hoping to branch out and try another resort, but it's tough to turn our back on having our room pretty much paid for with all of the money we're spending on the reception.

Here's the question....

We're planing on having my family come down and join us in Disney since my brother now has a five-year old son who has never been. My parents and my sister-in-law haven't been there since right before EPCOT opened, and my sister and her husband haven't been there in quite a while as well. What would be the most effective way to use our Starwood points for our rooms? After all is said and done, I'm banking on having approximately 42,000 points to use. We'll need 4 rooms, and with allof the discounts and promotions going on, I'd like to get the best deal possible. Thanks for all of your help!

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! I really like the idea of a week in the Caribbean and a week at Disney...relaxation + fun = the perfect vacation.

How long are you planning to be at Disney? The 42,000 points will buy you one room for 4 nights at the Swan (10,000 per night).

For multiple rooms, there's a promotion on this page where you get a second room for as low as $109 per night. I'm not sure what the first room will run, but I doubt it will be more than $179, as that's the best available rate for October.

If your group is staying for a full week, there's another really good promotion on the page linked above...the Sunsational Savings rate. With that plan, you get the 6th night free, a $100 food and beverage credit, and an upgrade to the next level of room category.

And if anyone in your party is a teacher, nurse, or works for a federal, state or local government, there are discounts in those categories, too.

Lastly, the AAA rates are also usually quite good. You can link to those rates from that S/D promotions page that I linked above.

Best of luck with your planning. You should keep checking this thread, as well, because if any other good deals are to be had, the folks here will find them.
