I am worried:( My DH and I took our son for his first trip in 2008 at age 4 and we went the first week of February and had a fabulous time. The lines were short and weather was cool and comfortable. We then came back at age 6 the week after Presidents day and it was super busy. We were spoiled by the short lines and no crowd from our trip before and my DH advised would not come back:( Well........ I talked him in to a short trip the first weekend of November. Thought the crowds would be small again:) Not concerned with the F & WF but concerned about Jersey week! Should I change dates?
We love WDW but I'm concerned if we have hit another time with 2 hr lines and FP sold out he won't come back! Help!

I have not visited in November before this will be our first November trip but I did try to research the best times to go and not go during the "Christmas Season" and the first week of November is Jersey Week from what I know their conferences are the 4th and 5th this year and most leave by the 7th, but since you are only talking going for the weekend, I do think another weekend might be better with the exception of the first weekend in December because of POP Warner and filming of the XMAS Parade in MK.

Remember weekends always tend to be busier because more locals visit then that being said the following weekend Nov 12-14 which is the Festival of the Masters in DTD and the last weekend of Food & Wine in Epcot you can expect those places to be busy.

Also by going a bit later in November You can take in the OL at DHS and maybe catch MVMCP on a Friday nite.

We are going this year from Nov 8 thru the 13th but I purposely tried to plan so we did not have weekend days this trip.

My DD8 has issues with fruits and says that they make the inside of her "neck..i.e.throat" itchy! And vegetables are on her list of foreign invaders:sad2:

My younger son has said that too...when he was little if he ate an apple that wasn't peeled, after a couple of bites he would stick his tongue out and kinda scratch on it..saying his tongue was itching! He still has to have apples and other fruits peeled...saying he can't stand the itching!

I wish I had better news for you, but last year we arrived the first weekend of November and it was crowded. We arrived that Saturday and went to Epcot. TT and Soarin waits were at 90 minutes I think and there were people everywhere. Sunday was a little better, but still kind of crowded. Once Monday hit it was wonderful. All the Jersey Week crowds disappeared and we had short lines all week.

If you can only go on a weekend I would recommend waiting until the following weekend, or maybe even the weekend after that. If mid week is possible then anytime after the first week and before Thanksgiving should be great!

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

mbonomo...I haven't been during Jersey Week...but I would think it's gonna be a little busy!! The next weekend (13/14) is when I come in...and it's the end of the F&W...but that is gonna draw people to Epcot-I would think...that's gonna be the last chance for them to be there...then next weekend (21) is gonna pick up due to people coming in for Thanksgiving....F&W doesn't usually last that long, so that kinda messes up that weekend as far nothing MAJOR going on..but i think I would still try that weekend over Jersey Week....weekends are always busier....could you try a couple of days in the week following Jersey Week? If not, then the weekend of the 13th would be a better bet!

I agree with the others who suggested you might want to change it to the following weekend.

Thank you. I think we will change dates and go the 7th thru 10th. My DS7 won't miss much in 1st grade if he misses 2-3 days!!! Bad mom!

You're welcome! I always have to laugh at the posts by people who swear kids younger than 5 shouldn't go to WDW because they can't enjoy it or whatever. Personally, that was the most magical trip ever simply because of my DS's reactions to everything - getting to see all the characters he knows and loves from TV, being mesmerized by all of the shows, etc. The magic was just so REAL to him! And it was so much fun to watch. He may not grow up remembering it, but his momma always will! Plus, I have the pictures to prove it! :goodvibes Now if I can just find the picture of his face lighting up when he saw Daisy Duck to post here...

My mom and aunt took my son to WDW for the first time when he was 22 months old. He is now 8 1/2 and still can tell you things about that trip. :)

He'll be fine!

I take my kids out 5 days each school year! :guilty: But they get good grades, rarely miss any other school, and our school is very good about it. So, until they are in middle and HS I'm not too worried about it! :goodvibes

We are also going during Jersey Week (Nov 2-9) :woohoo: and according to touringplans.com the crowd levels are for this week in November are: 1st - 1; 2nd - 5; 3rd - 4; 4th - 4; 5th - 1; 6th - 2; 7th - 2.

What Does It Feel Like?
Level
10 "At noon you can walk down Main Street U.S.A. without your feet
touching the ground. Super crowded!"
9 "Plan on 20-minute waits for the bathroom. If this is a '9' I'd hate to
see a '10'."
8 "Yay for the touring plans! We only waited 10 minutes at most
attractions but the crowds were big"
7 "It was crowded during mid-day but the morning wasn't that bad"
6 "Crowded but manageable"
5 "Reminds me of when I was here in the '80s"
4 "Must be the warm weather keeping everyone back at the pool"
3 "Didn't really need the touring plan, we ended up riding some things
twice with no wait"
2 "Wow, its like we have the park to ourselves"
1 "Is the park even open? Mickey, are you there?"

I hope this helps you to make your decision. Last year we went Aug 15 - 27 and was crowded and VERY HOT.

It is funny how some people think it is the worst thing ever! Last year his kindergarden teacher made a comment to me about taking him out! I could not believe it. Making family memories is more important to me so as long as he continues to do well in school I will continue to take trips!

I'm home! The surgery went very well, I'm resting now with my leg elevated, a big honkin' bandage and ice packs around my knee, still feeling kinda dopey from the anesthesia and I have the perfect excuse to spend lots of time catching up on the DIS this afternoon! Thanks again for all your good wishes, much appreciated. The surgeon ended up removing the meniscus because it was too torn up for a repair job, crutches and pain meds for a couple or three days, some PT and ta da..time for a little nap.

I am excited to say that MVMCP starts on November 8th! Would you say this is a "Must Do"? is it worth the $54 tickets?

I take mine out too! Originally we were planning on going in Oct. and would have had to pull him out for 4 days. Then FD was announced and pushing back a week I would have had to pull him out for 5 days. We decided to push back a little farther into Nov. and because his school is closed for 3 days due to a Teaching Conference we'll only have to take him out for 2 days. I'm feeling better about that since he'll be starting 3rd grade this year. BUT... I would have done the 5 and been okay with that too ;)

I have taken mine out and never looked back!!! It's not a big deal in first grade anyway...unless he has some problems in class already, he should just have a couple of worksheets or something as homework and that would be all. I think you will be happier with those dates!!!

glad you are home and taking it easy!!! Follow the rules and you'll be fine in no time!!!

Well..it depends on how much other stuff you want to try to get in on the days you are there... If you are mainly hanging out and taking it easy, then yeah, do it!!! But be sure and sleep late the next day...and don't get up tooo early on the day of....but if you are gonna be trying to hit RD every morning and go, go , go...then skip it. your little guy will not be able to hang with all that. It is a neat thing to see...but if he is gonna be fried and miserable, then don't worry about it!

Hello All,

I will be in Disney from Nov 27th - Dec 2nd, and will be staying at the Coronado Springs. I am taking my 16 yr old niece as a present for being such a great big sister and helper to her two autistic brothers. I was in Disney last year during Thanksgiving week and had a great time even with the crowds, so I am sure that it will be an even better time with less people. I am just hoping the weather is nice, we had a few days last year when we where wearing gloves and jackets. Any ideas for how to make sure a teenage girl has a great time would be appreciated.

I really have to join touringplans.com. My sister was there once in January and she called me from her cell phone to tell me that she was at DHS and there was nobody around! And that was during marathon week. What is Jersey Week? The whole state of Jersey goes? Why? Never heard of this. Our school are always closed the first monday and tuesday in November for election day and teacher conferences. Is this the same week. I've thought of going to Disney then, but 4 days is so short. We usually go to Colonial Williamsburg since its only 3 1/2 hours away. Your last comment has me worried. Before our November trip, we're coming down (a side benefit of taking my son to college in Florida) Aug 11th through the 19th! Last year we came down mid July and it was the time that teen tour groups from South America come and there were hundreds of groups of teens dressed alike and with a chaperone flag bearer chanting and shouting everywhere!! They were WORSE than the heat (which was pretty bad---but honestly.... its like 100degrees and super humid here in Northern VA today)

It is funny how some people think it is the worst thing ever! Last year his kindergarden teacher made a comment to me about taking him out! I could not believe it. Making family memories is more important to me so as long as he continues to do well in school I will continue to take trips!
My DD8's elementary school principal firmly believes that family vacations are very important time together and they can't always conform to the school calendar. I have two grown children in addition to DD8 and really... looking back... taking them out in elementary school is pretty much not a biggie as long as they're not struggling. Middle school is harder, but its managable. And you'd think high school would be super hard, but nowadays they have laptops and teachers have websites, its so much easier to keep up. We took DS out of school for a week in Oct 2008 when he was a sophomore. He brought his lap and checked in with his assignments each night. Emailed work to his teachers as needed.

My younger son has said that too...when he was little if he ate an apple that wasn't peeled, after a couple of bites he would stick his tongue out and kinda scratch on it..saying his tongue was itching! He still has to have apples and other fruits peeled...saying he can't stand the itching!

YES yes... she makes me peel her apples too! She also won't eat the carrots anymore. My DS18 STILL complains of these issues... so I guess its not something they grow out of. :guilty:

I have only ever had one teacher make a comment to me. Not too bad for as many teachers as the boys have had! Our school actually allows for up to 10 days of "excused educational absences". I would never do more than 5 though.

The surgery went very well, I'm resting now with my leg elevated, a big honkin' bandage and ice packs around my knee, still feeling kinda dopey from the anesthesia and I have the perfect excuse to spend lots of time catching up on the DIS this afternoon! Glad everything went well. Hope you're not in too much pain. Take it easy and get healed up quick! :goodvibes

I'm still trying to figure that out myself! :rotfl: We were there last year when it was going on and we didn't go. But I am strongly considering it for this year.

Hello and :welcome:

How sweet of you to take your niece. Sorry I can't help you out on the teenage girl ideas, I only have boys! Maybe someone else can help you out there. . .

Congrats Wendy ~ that's a lot of money saved!! And POR is wonderful! :goodvibes

I have to try not to think of the money we could save by switching to a moderate! It's hard not to think about it, especially when we would be perfectly happy to go back to CBR or POR. BUT - I have wanted to try a deluxe forever and always back out, so this time I am doing it!!!

I understand Shelly... and had I not stayed at a deluxe before I probably wouldn't have changed... but I have stayed at POLY, AKL, OKW, SSR, SOG just in recent years and will be staying at Boardwalk in August when we take Maggie. We really love CSR but they didn't have any openings so POR is okay with us!!!
:thumbsup2 $1100 is a nice savings, we were orignally going to try POR this trip, we stayed at POFQ years ago, then Disney sent me the 20/30/40 pin and we decided to go with AKL , then DS and his wife wanted to join us so we upgraded again to a villa, if it were just DH and myself going this trip I would seriously consider changeing to a mod but we would need to get two rooms at a mod, so there would go the savings with the FD.
Glad it worked out for you

AKL is great... its really awesome looking out at the animals... you will havae a great time!!!

Help!

I have been during Jersey week and it is not that bad... and this year they are not getting as much time off I don't think... Epcot will be busy at night though because its the last week of the Food and Wine Festival... I always look at Tour Guide Mikes parks and pick and he has never let me down!!!

That's great news... take it easy and rest!!

I am excited to say that MVMCP starts on November 8th! Would you say this is a "Must Do"? is it worth the $54 tickets?

We are going to MVMCP... its tons of fun.. we have gone before... the castle is amazing and they make it snow on Main St. We are going to go on Nov 11th. We had planned on the 8th but had to switch it because we are doing the Illuminations Internation Dinner and Dessert Party on the 8th instead...

First... you will love CSR... it is our fav moderate!!!! My DD is 20 and one of her favorite things to do is to go the the tea room at the Grand Floridian...

Today is the first day of our neighborhood sale... my goal was enough to make enough to buy the 5 MVMCP tickets I need... well I have done that and more!!! Its been a great day... despite the rain... I am so excited... tonight I have to get more "stuff" out to sell... my table are empty!!!!
