Brady says tada for Papa. that's the only one he can come close to saying at this point.

My mom is a Gran.
My dad is Papa Tom.
My Nana is Nana Knock-Knock (I'll explain in a minute)
My Papa is Papa Al.

My other Papa, who passed away when my oldest was about 3 was Papa Archie, my Nana, was Nana.

Ok..now the nana knock knock. Cute story. My parents live in a split w/my grandparents living down stairs. Whenever my grandmother comes upstairs from their part of the house and the "playroom" she says Knock Knock, there isn't a door there.

So Ty and my nephew started calling her nana knock knock...it stuck. 5 years later, she's still nana knock knock.

Oops...forgot about hubbys parents.
Mimi and Grampy.
but go figure...niece calls father in law papa. He told us he wanted to be called grampy. Our son is older...but my sis in law is a whack job, so it was probably her decision

I think I am going to sign up at snapfish or shutterfly for one of those prepaid plans or something- anyone else do this?

I have signed up on both, but I use snapfish more often b/c it seems faster on my computer. I don't have a prepaid plan, though. It's only $0.09 per print anyway, and they frequently send out e-mail coupons.

Question of the Day: : What does your child call his grandparents?

Well, my mom is the only grandparent or great-grandparent in Alex's life right now. We call her grandma to him, but he insists on calling her mama. He says it differently then when he calls me mama, he puts the stress on the first ma. We have tried to get him to call her grandma, and have practiced the g sound, which he can repeat just fine, but when we say grandma, he says MAma. :confused3 Drives us both crazy, b/c I want to be the only mama, and she wants him to call her grandma. We think it's probably b/c he hears DH & I calling her mom or mama and copies that.

Congrats on the weightloss Nicole! Keep up the good work! I had originally lost all the baby weight, plus 10 lbs, but I have gained 10 back again, and I am just not happy with it right now. I need to start working out again, but it's so hard on the road. Who am I kidding, I can make up an excuse anywhere! :rotfl:

Welcome Carla! I'm so glad that both of your girls are happy and healthy. Are you doing better since your fall?

So cute! Growing up, my sister and I called our maternal grandfather Grampa Gator. Everytime he left, he would say, "See you later, Alligator" so we started calling him Grampa Gator!

Anyone else have any cute or funny grandparent nick-name stories?

Anyone else have any cute or funny grandparent nick-name stories?

Nana Knock Knock and Grandpa Gator are both hysterical! :lmao:

The only funny story we have is from my step-neice. My dad (Grandpa Dick) is known for making lots of funny faces, especially with his tounge hanging out. My step-brother's oldest DD was learning about "Mr. Yuck" (those green stickers with the yucky face on them to teach kids about poisionous household stuff), and she got that and my dad's funny faces all sort of mixed up together, so she started calling him "Grandpa Ick". None of the 15 other grandkids have picked it up, but the adults all think it's funny! Many of my step-siblings have started calling my dad "Ick" or "Grandpa Ick" as a joke, and he thinks it's hillarious.

So how are you guys staying cool in the heat of summer? We're fortunate to have AC, but I'm trying to not run it non-stop to save energy. I still feel like I'm melting. Our friends' DD breaks out in a horrible rash everytime she's in strong sunlight or gets hot, and they are trying everything they can think of to keep her comfortable these days. Poor kiddo is just miserable.

I found it! Thanks, Nicole for having me come over!

Hi, everone! I have a few minutes because my parents took Kate for a sleepover after I fell yesterday. :sad2:

Things have been rough. I severely underestimated how hard it would be having 2 this close in age. Physically, I recovered great - I was induced by having my water broken, my labor was slightly over 4 hours, I didn't even have to push. No pitocin. No epidural. She forced her way out, giving herself a black eye in the process. I seem to bounce back fast though.....that's how I ended up pregnant again so soon after Kate, I guess! ;)

Needless to say, I AM on birth control this time around. I still have nightmares about positive pregnancy tests though. Pretty sad. The nightmare used to be the negative ones. :confused3

Anyway....I'm going to bookmark this so I don't lose it.

We've been calling my parents Grammy and Grampy. No idea how that came about, but it seems to be working! :thumbsup2

:cheer2:

Carla!!!!!!!!!!!

Girl, it has been a bazillion years. (Ok, not that long, but a while. Still- long time no see). I think it is funny, I have never met you IRL, yet you're like an old chum. With two babies !!!!! :lmao: Goodness sakes- who would have guessed! :rotfl2:

QOTD: Vaylie calls both grandmas and both grandpas Maw-maw (which sounds different than mamaw or mama, somehow) and Pa-pa. Eventually my mom and stepdad will be Mawmaw and Papa, and DH's parents will be Grandma and Grandpa. She has started calling me "Ma-meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee." :lmao: She drags the last syllable out forever. :lmao:

SHe calls my grandma "Gigi." (My grandma picked it, and is tickled to death whenever she hears V say it).

I don't know what she calls DH's grandparents, but they'll be Grandma Flo and Grandpa Chas.

And then- she has great-great-grandparents!!! Mamaw and Papaw. There is no other option there- they are Mamaw and Papaw. :goodvibes I'm lucky that my great-grandparents are still around to see her!

Bec -- Vaylie is so lucky to have great-great parents too! Wow!

This thread has been hopping -- it is just great!

Question of the Day: What fun thing(s) do you have planned for the weekend - with or without the kid(s)?

Question of the Day: What fun thing(s) do you have planned for the weekend - with or without the kid(s)?

Lets see nothing overyly fun this weekend. Noah and I are heading to Charlotte to go out to dinner for my cousins birthday. He has been spending the summer at my moms house but he goes home on Saturday. So Saturday we will be taking him halfway home for his dad to meet us. Then we will be doing some shopping (DH says this is all my mom and I do LOL) and church Sunday morning then back home. Sometime we hope to get some pool time in too if the rains hold off.

Now DH has a fun weekend. LOL he is helping his brother get their nursery painted and ready for decorating when his wife gets back from visiting her mom's house. They are due in Oct and still haven't picked a pattern or anything. Then they are going to repair the damage to the laundry room wall from a leak they had and if they have time are going to work on restoring the canoe thats in pieces in my garage. On top of that he has to work the Tom Petty concert saturday night. With all those plans you can see why I'm skipping town. LOL

Question of the Day: What fun thing(s) do you have planned for the weekend - with or without the kid(s)?

Well we were supposed to get together with our close friends tonight, but one of their daughters is not feeling well, and won't be on her antibiotics long enough before tonight, so we've had to postpone until Saturday.. so that will be Saturday afternoon into evening (likely going to the pool during the day). Sunday, we may be buying new flooring for our livingroom/dining room (very exciting!), and Sunday afternoon we're going to my Brother's Bday Bash, and then my oldest DD has a birthday party that evening! Busy, Busy!

My mom is coming this weekend. DH and I are going to go out for a little while Tomorrow night while Mom watches the twins.

I took Zoe to the Dr today to do a weight check since she is still such a puker and they will be 8 months tomorrow. She weighs 15 lbs 10 oz..has geined a pound on the last two months. Dr is not worried about her she is following her growth curve well and is just petite. No advice though forthe puking other than she jut has to outgrow it. I am so ready for the puke phase to be over!!!

Beck- i use shutterfly and have for many years since they first launched it. i really like it. they now have a partnership with Target where you can actually pick up your prints at target, which saves on shipping. I organize my pics by event, but since having Will, i have an album for each month with his pics.

QOTD- we are going to SeaWorld San Antonio this weekend! we are so excited, i haven't been since 1996 when i was in college. We are driving down on saturday am and arriving around 1 or 2pm. it's like a 5 hour drive from Dallas. We will do SW on saturday afternoon/evening and then again on Sunday during the day. they have a waterpark inside too. then sunday afternoon, we head down to Port Aransas, which is near Corpus Christi, TX and have a beach house for the week. There will be my parents, us and the baby, DH's 12yo nephew, my sister/BIL and 5yo daughter and 2yo son and then their 12yo niece...and - then my other sister and her fiance. so pretty large group. looking forward to relaxing and watching Will have a great time. He is still too young to really enjoy, but we will love watching the other kids too. probably won't be online much beyond tomorrow. i'll post pics when we return.

have a great weekend everyone!:goodvibes

Question of the Day: What fun thing(s) do you have planned for the weekend - with or without the kid(s)?

Well, no big plans yet, but we're probably going to do the babysitting swap with our friends again so we can get a date night. Looks like we'll drop Owen off with them on Friday night, and then they'll drop their DD off with us on Saturday night. Of course, we don't have any idea what we'll do for our date night, but who cares! :rotfl: Dinner out? A movie? who knows...we'll figure that out once we get the childcare lined up.

We might also go to the Japantown Obon Festival this weekend for a little bit. Japantown is the next neighborhood over from ours, so we spend a lot of time over there. We love Taiko drumming, and this weekend San Jose Taiko will be performing free during the festival, plus there are 2 other Taiko groups that will perform. We'd like Owen to take Taiko lessons when he's old enough - it's near our house, artistic, physical, and multi-cultural - all things we value. I first saw Taiko drumming at Epcot back in the 80's, and loved it ever since then. Hopefully Owen will like it, too! :)

We'll see...if it's too hot out we probably will just stay inside with the AC on! :rolleyes1

Question of the Day: What fun thing(s) do you have planned for the weekend - with or without the kid(s)?

Hmm- tomorrow we're hosting a blood drive at work, and today I have a huge headache- so I talked the gals at work into letting me take 1/2 a day off so I could get rid of this headache, and then in exchange, I promised to make their share of treats for the blood donors! :lmao: I like to bake anyway, so no biggie for me. This stupid head, though, is killing me! :headache:

Saturday, I work til 1, then we are going to be walking in a parade, and DH and V will join me for that.

Sunday morning we have to go get my brakes fixed, and we're going to ride over with my IL's and go shopping while the car is being worked on.

So, busy weekend here, too. What I'd really like to do is sit on my behind.

nothing fun planned w/the kids. Hubby and I are both working. They are going to my parents after daycare/camp tomorrow and hubby will pick them up on Sunday am. Then babysitter will be here til I get home at 2:30...

But we are going to go out to dinner on Saturday night.

Nothing planned. We may go to the pool or something. If I can move tomorrow that is. I kind of had an incident with a slide n slide this afternoon.

Ash, I checked out your blog (still :lmao: at your slip'n'slide catastrophe, btw), and that pic of you in the white dress on the beach with Ellery is just gorgeous!

Question of the Day: What fun thing(s) do you have planned for the weekend - with or without the kid(s)?

Well, first I am going home tomorrow afternoon! :cheer2: :cheer2: Unfortunately I have one more conference call after I get home, but I'm thinking of skipping it (shh, don't tell my boss!).

DH will be working all weekend as usual, but he should be home by 3 or 4 each day. So I plan on spending lots of quality time with my little man, probably going swimming at some point. Not really sure what else yet.

Thanks! We couldn't get her to look up for anything, she was totally mesmerized by the sand, lol.

No real exciting plans for the weekend here.... Saturday DH and I are both home, so we're just doing litttle projects around here. If I don't get out and weed the garden, I'll never find it again. Sunday I have to work, and Sunday night, a friend and I are going to an Indigo Girls concert. I used to love them when I was in college!

It's my birthday today and it's just me and Mo. Hubby unfortunately had to work. :( So this morning after my WIC appt. Mo and I went to the little zoo up the road from my house. We only stayed about 30 minutes because he was getting so hot. It's a small zoo though and it can be seen in that time. Here's a few pictures.
