We are Disney veterans and DVC owners who will be staying at CS for the first time with a sizable convention the last week of June. We have never stayed at a moderate before and doing so in the heat is NOT something that thrills me( except it is Disney). Any recommendations for rooms in the Castitas that are close to everything? I am NOT good with heat and am a little worried about the size of this resort. We come to Disney at least twice a year so I don't have a big agenda for the parks. I have stayed at the Dolphin before in the Summer. I hear the Dolphin has a large convention too at the same time. I usually avoid convention people like the plague but this time we are one of them
casita 1 is attached to the main building right near the convention center and the restaurants. We stayed at CSR last June and let me tell you, Florida in June is hot. The pool water was warm and the concrete gets very hot. If you go to the ppol, go early and get a table with an umbrella, grab a margarita and relax.

Thanks Buzz2001, I don't mind tipping either (I was a waitress for
10 years, ever heard of Shady Glen?) Anyways, I'm happy to
get some information about the food court since it's different
at this resort. I hate going into something and not know what
is going on. Your website is great, and thanks for the pointers.

(ps. still lots of snow in my yard)

Yes, Shady Glen. We just tried it for the first time last summer. It was ranked one of the top places by MSN to get a burger in CT. Have a great trip!

Thanks Buzz,

I know it is disgusting hot in end of June. We have been at Disney in July and August and swore NEVER again! However DH has to attend convention then and do I really want to stay home when he is in Disney???? I think I will be spending a great deal of time indoors and in the car. Maybe the parks at night. Thanks for the advise about where to stay. We walked around in February and I couldn't believe how s :flower: :flower: :flower: pread out it is. Very attractive though.

Just back from CSR! We faxed ahead with details about our special event grovelling for Cabana 9b, and not only did they honour the request but we had a double aspect room with water view. Also, mid-way between birthday and anniversary celebrations we returned from dinner to find two bunches of balloons (one anniversary, one birthday), a birthday card for me from Princess Aurora and an anniversary card from Mickey and Minnie (both with large signed photos). I hadn't mentioned it on check-in, and we didn't have any cards up so they must have noted it from the fax.

I'll do a proper trip report when I have time but here's a couple of points:

The hairdryers in the room are powerful enough to use (unlike Disneyland Paris!) so no need to take your own.

If you need extra towels and don't want to wait for mousekeeping, send someone to the pool (the towels are interchangeable).

IMHO the Maya Grill is lovely for dinner, but we found the service slow for breakfast. I know its a serve yourself buffet, but at one point our waiter diappeared from sight for a good 25 mins leaving us gasping for drinks.

Pepper Market can be a very annoying place to eat! OK, you do get your table assigned (so no worries about being left standing with trays of food) and drinks brought to your table (again, sometimes a wait), but there is no separate ordering/collection point at each counter, leaving a disorganised group of people half waiting for their orders half waiting to place an order. And generally only one person per counter so if they are flipping burgers you have to wait till they come up to the front to order. The food was only OK - we preferred eating out, more food and better value.

On size, we didn't find it that spread out (perhaps because we were so conveniently sited!) - anyone who has stayed at Centerparcs or similar will find it perfectly manageable.

P.S.

Quickest way to get out is to take your refillable mugs to the serving hatch outside Pepper Market and get your hot drinks and pastries there - open from 6.30

Maybe I'm a little slow up the uptake here, but what's the big deal about faxing a room request? Can't you just do that over the phone when you make the ressies? Do they honor faxes over verbal requests? We're going for Cabana 9b next March!!

Does anybody know how well baby monitors work through the Cabanas? We'll be going in June and thought it would be nice to sit outside the room after putting our 3-year-old to bed.

if my boyfriend and I would like to be by the dig site, but not paying for a preffered, what building should we request?

Are the King bed rooms like those at CBR? mostly corner rooms?

I sure you can but remember you'll be sitting in the hall/walkway. There is a bit of an indent were the doors are leading into the rooms.

Ranchos 7b or 6b are close. So is casita 5. Not sure if all king rooms are corner rooms.

On the phone is fine.

I guess its easier phoning if you live in the US, or have booked direct with Disney. I tried phoning from the UK, worked my way through the automated switchboard, then the cast member started talking to me, then just started talking to a colleague and never came back to me at all! So I tried again, and was eventually connected only to be told that they couldn't access my booking because it was via a travel agent and I would have to phone the week we travelled.

So a fax was easier for us (and cheaper), and it worked.

Are all of the rooms in Cabanas (9b) "preferred", or can you get a standard room in that section?

When we booked our package with AAA, I put in a room request. Will I need to do it again when our trip gets close?

I specifically booked a water view room just because I thought it would increase my chances of getting 9B (or 9E). Is this not necessary? I don't care at all about the view, but I thought you had to have water view for most of the cabana rooms. Does anyone know the scoop?

Cabanas are mostly waterview.

cabanas are all preferred but that doesn't mean you can't get an upgrade. Depends on the time of year and if all the rooms are sold to waterview paying guests.
