The Myth that is LeCellier

Threads like this bring out the good and the bad in people. On these threads some people simply can't share their opinion without enfringing on someone elses opinion. There isn't a right or a wrong here.

Yes, by the way, I'm a lover of bacon but I love the soup because of the tangy, salty Canadian white Cheddar. P.S. It's OK if not everyone shares my love of it!

Never had a bad meal, my only complaint of Le Cellier is that a couple of times in it's busy rush hour we received our meals, appetizers and soup all at once. Not my idea of a relaxed meal. I've found in later years that we have a much better meal/service etc. if we make very late ADR's like 8pm, personally we've seen the FW many times so to miss it is o.k.. Otherwise I do not equate the steak quality from LC to be the same as Shula's but by the same token at Shulas you have to buy your own sides a la carte, at Yachman the sides come with. All in all I prefer Yachtman, I love Le Cellier and would go to Shulas above the other 2, but only if some else is footing the very large bill!

I think there are a few reasons why Le Cellier is so popular:

(1) It's a 1 TS restaurant the serves steak.
(2) It's a "Plain Jane" type of restaurant in Epcot. No need to try anything "ethnic" :rotfl:.
(3) It's small with limited seating so it is difficult to get an ADR. Supply and demand makes it popular.

I personally think it's over rated. I have eaten there at least 3 times and had a really long wait, just "okay" steak and horrible service each and every time.

It used to be a good stand-by restaurant when you could walk up and get right in. The food was much better back then too (YEARS ago). I never thought it was that great, but DH liked the atmosphere :confused3 After our last meal there, he's finally admitted that it's nothing special and that we should try some of the other restaurants around the World. We were eating there with 3 other adults and no one raved about their meal. In fact, some had some minor complaints about the quality of the food. To each his own...

Great restaurant, great atmosphere, great service. And certainly much better that the Outback.

The only negative for us is that the tables can be close together but then again, we've met some really nice people that way.

I think Le Cellier is way overhyped because I have way higher standards in food than the commoners who fill up the ressies there. People with my discriminating taste need somewhere off the beaten track to satisfy their tastebuds. Its not so much that I think people who like it are just wrong, I actually pity them. It like they are stuck in the cave (and by cave I mean the Outback steakhouse) while the snobby, err I mean sophisticated people are out enjoying the sunshine (and by sunshine I mean Shula's.) Can anyone actually enjoy the Outback steakhouse? Didn't think so.

Sorry to offend those who love it...... But what is the deal on these Boards and in the Disney On-Line Community about LeCellier. I have been there afew times and it's fine, I guess, but there are many better options for dining at WDW. Is anyone with me. Its not that LeCellier is BAD I just dont get why so many rave about it so much.pirate:

I'm glad to see there are a minority of us that don't think Le'Cellier is this almost "orgasmic" experience of dining pleasure (can I say that, LOL). I think it is just another decent but far from great restaurant. Remove it from Epcot and place it in just about any big city and Le'Cellier would be just another struggling establishment.

I agree, although we all like Le Cellier, it is rather average...nothing special (well, the cheese soup and pretzel bread is kinda awesome) we could live without it. We do go there once a trip, but would not be heartbroken if we couldn't get adr's. no doubt it's a good deal if your on the dining plan. :)

I agree, good but nothing special. I personally don't think it is worth wakeing up at the crack of dawn to frantically dial the reservation number to get an ADR for this place 180 days out. I passed on it my last visit and I'll do the same with my next.

After 3 trips of trying to get a reservation, we finally did! And prob won't ever try again lol. That's ok though, it saves one more spot for those who love it.

Like you, I'm willing to do my part to allow those who love this place or those who have never been there fight like mad to get in. As the old saying goes, "been there done that".

I am not a fan of Le Cellier. You could change the sign that says "Le Cellier" with one that says "Outback Steakhouse" and I don't know if I could tell the difference. It by no means lives up to the hype it gets.

While you and I may get flamed for saying this, I agree. I just ate at the Outback this past weekend and I swear I kept thinking how this compares to Le'Cellier. With that said, I'll give the slight edge to Le'Cellier, but it is close.

I don't like threads like this--it's almost like, "Why are so many people idiots?"

I don't think that is a fair assessment. It's almost like, "why are so many people idiots because they don't like it?" Opinions are like belly buttons and backsides, we all have one and they are all different.

I wouldn't know, I have never been able to get a ressie even calling at the 180 day mark.

We have dined at Le Cellier many times and always enjoyed our meals. I think word of mouth has just made it very popular. When we dined there with our whole family last year it was everyones favorite meal of the trip. Our kids and spouses loved the fact that they could get a great steak for just 1 dining credit. I have to say that we have dined at Shula's in the past and even though it was very good we enjoy Le Cellier just as much. What turned me off of Shulas was the fact that my wife and I had to pay $10 extra to split a steak. We get the New York strip at Le Cellier and NEVER have to spend $$$ to split it.

We've been going to LC since it was a cafeteria style eatery in the 80s. It's good, and can be very good. Now that it's so difficult to get an ADR, we can pass. Meh.:confused3

For me, it's not about the steak at all because I don't even like steak that much. I really like the pretzel bread and the cheese soup. Yes, I will go there just for cheese soup. I agree that it's crowded and like a Cellar...but that's what it's supposed to be. Is it my favorite atmosphere? No. But I LOVE the cheese soup!

I also wanted to add that Le Cellier is very popular because it's the only Steakhouse inside Epcot. Yes, there's Yachtsman and Shula's but you have to leave the park to get to them and I bet you a lot of people don't want to do that. Some might not even realize there's a back exit to the park.

We have only been there once and it was about the experience for me, since everyone sings it's praises. I enjoyed my meal the kids cleaned their place and that Pretzel bread.....well I'm glad I can't buy it weekly or I'd be in trouble. I would go back, Biergarten on the other hand.....:confused3

I haven't been there since about 2 1/2 years ago, but we loved Le Cellier. My son is a picky eater and he inhaled everything on his plate, and he was even coming down with a cold at the time. I enjoyed my fillet too. Went there twice, first time with free dining, second time we paid. We had a really nice, friendly server too the first time, the second time the server was just ok. Unless the food went way downhill since we've been there, we'll go back next time we go to Disney.

The DP and the DP alone has made it so popular. Despite its small size it was no problem getting in prior to the DP.

Because of the DP more people eat TS and as others have pointed out, LC is only 1 credit so it is "cheper" than the other steak places. The small size is a factor, but it only became a factor after the DP.

Of course there are some who really do like the place DP or not, but the point is that it's the DP that changed it from just another place that has some fans to such a hard place to get into.

I know people like different things but this isn't anything but a nasty bit of snobbery. I have 2 reservations at Le Cellier because I like their food, I have one at the Queen Victoria room because I like fine food as well. I don't judge people becasue they like things I don't (coffee and peanut butter :scared1:) I just enjoy the stuff I like and leave others to try the coffee (mind you I might just sink principles and try the no way jose thing)

I think the poster was being sarcastic. At least I hope so!

I have a reservation for Le Cellier in September. It's lunch and I did not make it at 180 days or 180 plus anything, and I'm not on the dining plan. I made it online in the evening not too long ago and it was not difficult to make. All I want is the mussels, spicy chicken sausage and some beer (not a steak eater, but I did like the mussels). No way I'm going to get up at six AM at 180 plus and get online to get a reservation here, but if I don't have to do that, yeah I'll take a reservation there.

This may be OT, but have you had the mussels at Cape May? They are *really* yummy!

I don't do Disney buffets much anymore, so I haven't had Cape May mussels. Maybe someday if I'm with a group that wants to go there.
