Is it really good? We've had it for a few days, but haven't watched it because we haven't been in the mood for a dark movie. Debating on whether or not to send it back to blockbuster.

I rented it from Netflix and it literally sat on my kitchen counter for close to a month.... I decided what the heck before I sent it back, I'd put it in for a bit to see if it was worthwhile watching.... all I can say is it has to be one of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time.... it is so hard to describe... here's the trailer for it (mind you, I knew NOTHING about the movie prior to putting it in my Queue... it was "recommended" due to another movie I'd borrowed).... Definitely watch it-not everyone feels the same way I do-but it was quite the eye-opener....

Five stars in my book....

My sister insisted I watch it and I was reluctant too. It was a very good, though-provoking movie. Well made and acted as well. Put it on, within the firts few minutes you will be into it.

Thanks for the trailer link. I hadn't seen it before. I suppose we'll give it a try. There are so many great people in it!

I was going to say the exact same thing! It is very well done. Well written. It was nice to see Sandra Bullock in something other than the fluff she is used to doing - something she can truly be proud of.

Its good - it "odd" and disturbing, but good.... and so different.

Id watch it before you return it.

It is a dark movie and when I saw it I cried through half of it. It is thought provoking but it left me feeling frustrated because of the sad and realistic nature of it....and there is nothing any one person can do to change the facts associated with the theme of this movie. It is an excellent movie but if you are human at all it will upset you to watch it.....I guess you can say upset you in a good way!? :confused3

It is a great movie. Probably the best movie I saw in '05. It is a little dark, but very thought provoking and IMO the creators portray a hopeful attitude.

I am curious.....what did you find or see that was hopeful about the movie?

PLEASE DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!!

I don't want to spoil too much, but some of the characters saw the horror of hate...the Iranian family, the hispanic family and the hope of their child. I even thought Matt Dillon's character had a change of heart. I just thought the characters saw their dependence on one another. But that's IMO.

We rented this months ago not really knowing anything about it. By the time it was over I was just speechless. It is an excellent movie.

just chiming in to add that i thought it was excellent too. i liked it so much as soon as it was over, i restarted it with the director's commentary and watched it again.

Hmmmmm.....you are right. I had not thought of it that way. I just thought they all seemed shocked at the terrible things they had done. I did not see it as a type of realization on their parts. Thanks!

I also watched the movie twice....I stayed up quite late and watched it again after the rest of the family went to bed. I could not believe what I had seen so I had to watch again.... :rotfl:

DH is working tonight and I was thinking about ordering this on pay-per-view as it doesn't interest him at all. A nice way to spend NYE alone????

:guilty:

I liked this movie. Was it the best movie I ever saw? No. But it is certainly not a waste of time. Definitely dark. But, I guess I saw the "hope" too. Mainly in Matt Dillon's character and the Iranian man. He seemed so bitter through the movie and he seemed to have changed in the end.

I would also recommend this movie. It definately makes you think!

Excellent movie. I have always said that everyone is a little bit prejudiced, no matter how loud you proclaim you are not. I didnt really care for the Sandra Bullock storyline but replayed the matt dillon redemption scene several times. just overpowering

I agree in regards to Sandra Bullock. Her story just didn't seem to have much purpose. I guess she was the rich, whiny, white woman part!
